General overview
We lovingly built Little Maunditts Cottage with all the character and charm of an old cottage but also included all the facilities and comforts of a new home. Located in a very pretty un-spoilt Cotswold village away from the crowded tourist hot spots but close to everything you might want to see in the area. (The Times newspaper voted it as the 5th most desirable village to live in England!)
The space
Little Maunditts Cottage has 3 en-suite bedrooms as can be configured as either three doubles or two doubles and a twin. There is a single sofa bed in the twin/double room so sleeps a maximum of 7 persons. (We can supply two highchairs and two travel cots if required.)
There is a fully equipped kitchen with dining table for 8 persons and a seating and recreational area with sofa, armchairs and tv.. There is an additional sitting room with sofas and another tv.
Downstairs toilet, utility room with washer dryer, additional freezer etc.
Pretty courtyard garden with outdoor dining area and swing seat. Parking for two cars, additional street parking close by.
Guest access
The cottage is on two floors and there are three shallow steps to the front door from the parking area so may not be suitable for persons with mobility issues. Not wheelchair accessible.
Notes
We give our exchange visitors the choice of either leaving the cottage as they found it (replacement linen will be supplied) or paying our cleaners fee of £100.

Neighbourhood
Sherston is a wonderfully friendly and unspoilt village with all the charm of the better known Cotswold villages but without the crowds of tourists.
The cottage is within walking distance of a well stocked village shop and post office, the very popular Rattlebone pub, The Swan bistro, and the Courtyard cafe.
The village has a children's playground and sports field.
A great location for visiting many beautiful places ...
Top Recommended Places to Visit :
Westonbirt Arboretum, Westonbirt Set in 600 acres of rolling Cotswold countryside including 17 miles of footpaths to explore. Beautiful at any time of year but in the autumn it offers breath-taking spectacular colour which has to be seen to be believed.
Bath Roman Town. Visit the Roman Baths, Spa, Jane Austin Centre, American Museum, Bath Abbey and a wealth of other sites. Just 18 miles drive away or 10 mins on train from Chippenham (traffic and parking in Bath can be tricky so the train is often more relaxing!)
Malmesbury. Historic town with wealth of history dating back to King Athelstan (first King of a united England) who is buried in Malmesbury Abbey.
Lacock. Picturesque 13th century village used frequently as a film set for historical dramas (including Harry Potter, Dowton Abbey and many more!). Lacock Abbey and Fox Talbot Museum of Photography.
Castle Combe. “The prettiest village in England” Chocolate box village, also recognisable from many films and dramas.
Avebury. Home to museums, a manor house and a World Heritage-listed Neolithic site of stone circles. (Much more “hands on” than Stonehenge and possibly more interesting!
Marlborough Downs with several historic chalk white horses set into the hillsides. Marlborough town is a classic county town with many good shops and restaurants. Catherine, Princess of Wales, went to the famous school there.
South Cotswold Towns and Villages ie Nailsworth, Stroud, Fairford, Minchinhampton, Frampton Mansell, Bradford on Avon, Painswick, Selsey, Duntisbourne Abbot etc (generally less touristy than the north of the Cotswolds but just as pretty)
North Cotswold Towns and Villages ie Bourton-on-the-water, Moreton-in-the-Marsh, Bibury, Burford, Broadway, The Slaughters, Chipping Norton etc. Pleasant drive through Cirencester and up the Fosse Way. (Would recommend visiting early morning or early evening when all the hoards of day trippers are not there!)
Bristol. Historic Docks, Museums, Concert Venues, Restaurants and Shops. Just 22 miles away or easy journey by train from Chippenham
Tetbury. The parish church is one of the earliest and best examples of Georgian Gothic churches in the country and boasts fine stained glass and unusual box pews. Many fine antique shops and a Highgrove gift shop share the High street with a good selection of cafes and restaurants.
Cirencester. Fine Roman town of Corinium, known as the Gateway to the Cotswolds. Corinium museum, ampitheatre.
Cotswold Water Park. 180 Lakes of various sizes within a 42 square mile area, many open to the public for recreational use ie Sailing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, fishing, swimming, water skiing etc. Several restaurants, cafes and picnic areas. Great area for walking as The Thames Path and many other public footpaths criss-cross the lakes area. Bike hire, adventure playgrounds and rare breeds farm close by. Bird hides to observe the 20,000 water birds who breed and feed here.
Stonehenge. World Heritage Site. Prehistoric Stone Circle. Approx 1 hour drive away.
Slimbridge Wetland Centre. Wildlife and bird watching reserve on banks of the river Severn.
Swindon Designer Outlet. Set in old Great Western Railways goods sheds and also home to the award winning “Steam” museum. Large, undercover ‘outlet’ retail centre in historic setting.
Cotswold Wildlife Park. Burford, OX18 4JJ, 01993 823006. 160 acres of parkland and fabulous gardens with vast array of animals, insects and birds. Beautiful walled garden.
Chavenage House, Tetbury, GL8 8XP, 01666 502329. A wonderful example of an Elizabethan manor house, recently used as a film set for the tv series Poldark.
Newark Park, Ozleworth, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, GL12 7PZ. Views from Newark Park on a good day can reach as far as the Mendip Hills. National Trust property.
Highgrove Gardens, Highgrove Estate, Doughton, Tetbury, GL8 0AY. King Charles’ residence and host to some beautiful and charming gardens. Garden tours are available and the garden is open throughout the summer, with additional events over Christmas. Advance booking is always required.
Painswick Rococo Garden, Painswick, Gloucestershire, GL6 6TH. Dating back to the 1700s this is the only surviving rococo garden that is open to the public. Famous for their snowdrop collection.
Getting to my home
Easy access from the M4 motorway from London and Bristol.

A car is pretty essential here. There are a few local buses but exploring the local area this way would be time consuming and limiting.

Well stocked village shop within easy walking distance. All the main supermarkets will deliver to you.
Laura and Struan's cottage is really homely and comfortable. There is plenty of space with a lounge area in the kitchen as well as a separate lounge and the luxury of 3 en-suite bathrooms. It was very clean and well equipped with everything you need to prepare meals. Laura also kindly left us some treats and basics on arrival and even pumpkins for the children to carve.
We had a lovely day out in Bath, as well as going swimming and we visited a couple of National Trust properties. Great pub 2 minutes walk away and a supermarket within a few minutes walk.
Laura was great to communicate with and quickly responded to any queries I had and it was lovely to have the chance to meet her.
Thanks for a great week!
Laura and Struan were great guests. Communication was easy from the start and I felt very comfortable in accepting them as guests from the first message. It was their first exchange and I was pleased for them to be able to start their exchanging journey. The house was left very clean and exactly as we'd left it with a lovely plant and thank you note. We look forward to visiting their property in October.
Hannah and her sons were perfect guests! I really appreciated how clean and tidy they left everything. It was lovely to be invited round for a cup of tea and a chat and very helpful for me, as a relative PLU newbie, to have the chance to discuss the process and their experiences with a seasoned swapper!
Hannah was very easy and friendly to communicate with for both parts of the non-sim swap.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Lake family to other members and loved our stay in their home in South Wales.
Our visit to Hannah's lovely home in Swansea was our first home exchange experience and it was a great success!
Hannah's home was immaculately clean and very comfortable, there were clear and comprehensive instructions as to how everything worked and lots of useful information about local places to visit. We felt very relaxed and at home there.
We loved the area! The long sweeping beaches were absolutely stunning and surprisingly empty. I'm not sure we will bother to travel to Devon and Cornwall so often in the future when the Gower is just as pretty, more affordable and much, much less commercialised. Swansea is easily accessible from either the M4 or the M5 motorways and is free from the traffic congestion and hoards of people you find further south. If you don't know the area I encourage you to stay at Hannah's home and explore the coast and countryside- you will be so impressed!
Thank you for a lovely stay Hannah.
We're so pleased that you enjoyed your first exchange. But ssh, please don't tell too many people how much quieter the Gower is than Devon and Cornwall as too many people will start coming to this area instead 😂
Thanks for leaving the house so clean and tidy. Hopefully we'll get to meet when we come to your place in October.

Laura
We are a not-quite retired couple who are looking to work less and live more! Laura is Scottish and Struan (despite the Scottish name) is English. We live in the South West of England but do spend time in Scotland when we can.
We have grown up children and one gorgeous grandson. We would mainly be travelling alone but might be looking for larger properties occasionally if we can persuade any of the kids to come along or maybe some friends.
We run our home as a B&B and let our future retirement cottage in the South Cotswolds as a holiday let - it is this lovely three bed, three bathroom cottage we would be looking to exchange. Struan built this cottage for us about 8 years ago and it is in a gorgeous unspoilt, non touristy Cotswold village called Sherston. Can't wait to move in ourselves one day!
We have one dog, a lurcher called Flint, who we would like to bring with us when possible within the UK. (We do have a local kennel he can spend some hols at if this is not possible.) Flint is never allowed on the furniture or upstairs and is very quiet and well behaved.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community.
