General overview

Set in a large garden with fabulous views our house is a bit crazy. From an original 19th century cottage, it has been built out to become a substantial home, though maybe not the in the way most people would have done it.

The space

We have several rooms downstairs, a kitchen with Aga is often the focal point. Our teenager has taken over the main sitting rooms as a games room and a music room with piano and drums. Fortunately we still have a small sitting room with TV for ourselves. There is an elegant dining room with a lovely oak table. Upstairs is split with 2 separate parts, each with own staircase, and bathroom. There are 3 bedrooms all double in one side of the house, and 2 in the other side. This is ideal if one group wants privacy from another.

Guest access

There are a number of steps and changes in levels in the house. It does not lend itself well to wheelchair access. We have space to park at least 3 cars comfortably.

Notes

We have a large garden with many fruit and other mature trees, and various vegetables in season. Although we like to keep the garden in shape we are not precious about it, and we encourage insects and birds by keeping the grass quite long, and growing wild flowers.

Neighbourhood

We live in a small town on the edge of the countryside, but within a 15 minute car ride to the city of Stirling, and an hour to Edinburgh or Glasgow. One of the real plus points is that you can walk out of the back door into woods, fields and hills.

We can meet for a drink, and we can show people round the local area. I can invite golfers to play at my local club.
