Penguin is a very popular tourist destination with several good restaurants a boutique brewery/restaurant, a pub that does great pub meals, two supermarkets and lots of little speciality stores.
Penguin also hosts the largest covered market on the north west coast

Launceston airport is 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Penguin
Flights from Melbourne come into Devonport, and the spirit of Tasmania ferry travels between Sydney and Devonport, which is 20 minutes drive from Penguin

You can walk to town from home, but you encounter dome steep hills on the return journey
