Neighbourhood
We live in Almere, near Amsterdam. In the past, the place where we live now was a sea, the Zuiderzee. In the 40s and 60s of the last century, part of the Zuiderzee was drained and "new land" was created. The city of Almere has been around for about 40 years and that is reflected in the modern cityscape.
There is a lot of nature and water in and around Almere and yet you can be in the heart of Amsterdam in 20 minutes by train or car.
In and around Almere there is a huge network of cycling and walking paths. There are two bicycles to use. There are various parks and forests and of course the unique nature reserve the Oostvaardersplassen.
City farm Kemphaan is a 5-minute drive away. This includes the Aap Foundation, a shelter for monkeys and other exotic animals. Around it is a wooded area where you can walk, climb in the climbing forest, eat a pancake at the restaurant or visit the farmer's market on Saturdays.
And is the weather nice? Then visit one of the beaches along the various lakes around Almere, go to Zandvoort or Scheveningen on the North Sea beach or drive to one of the many old villages on the "old land". Friesland with its many beautiful villages and plenty of water sports is only an hour's drive away. Even Maastricht, the very tip of the Netherlands, is only 2 hours away from us.
Nearest airport
Schiphol AirPort is about half an hour by train or car.
Getting Around
Almere is very centrally located and we have a very well-developed public transport network in the Netherlands. As an example; Utrecht 45 minutes, Den Bosch in just over an hour and Groningen in 1.5 hours, both by train and by car. Even Maastricht, the very tip of the Netherlands, is only 2 hours away from us.

Annet & Theo
We love to travel and have been to many countries. We both love warmth and beach, but also beautiful nature and interesting cities.
We are open to all destinations and are not tied to specific periods.
We are very neat and clean and expect the same from our home exchangers. We don't smoke and only want to swap with non-smokers.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
