Neighbourhood
Our home sits on a quiet street surrounded by sounds and sights of nature. We hear the mourning doves and sparrows, catch sight of deer and rabbits almost daily, and enjoy green foliage views on all sides of our home. All of this, and still we're walking distance from the local coffee shops, with a bus stop on our street that goes straight into the heart of the U.S. capitol.
Kensington is a historic suburban town (est. 1894), where you'll find a year-round weekly farmer's market, a world-class Belgian pastry shop, a new microbrewery, freshly made brick-oven pizza, and an "antique row" full of unique shops and treasures. Kensington also has some of the friendliest folks in the Washington, DC area.
The Strathmore Music Center is a fabulous concert hall with a full calendar of arts events, less than a 10-minute drive from our home: https://www.strathmore.org/.
Brookside Nature Center, featuring plentiful gardens and related activities, is also about a 10-12 min. drive away: https://montgomeryparks.org/parks-and-trails/brookside-nature-center/.
The nearby town of Bethesda offers additional shops, restaurants, salons and services, a movie theater, and more. It is about a 15-20 min. drive away: https://www.visitmaryland.org/list/bethesda.
Nearest airport
We are about 23 miles from Washington National (DCA), 26 miles from Dulles International (IAD), and 35 miles from Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). DCA has Metro access, and our home is just a 10 minute drive from the nearest Metro stations, which is easy on a rideshare app.
Getting around
Our home is within 10 min. walking distance from a Starbucks coffee shop, donut & lunch cafe, CVS pharmacy, and a salon & spa. Within a 15-20 min. walk you'll also find the weekly farmer's market, yoga studio, book shop, Belgian pastry shop, pizza parlor, and antique row.
At the end of our street (about half a block from our home), the L8 bus stops on Connecticut Avenue. It goes straight into DC and to the Friendship Heights Metro station--making access to DC easy and affordable.
