Our townhome is welcoming and comfortable. I love that it is surrounded by natural beauty with mountains, lakes, forests and wildlife.
There are many amenities in our neighborhood including hiking and biking trails, swimming pools, hot tubs, a golf course, tennis and pickleball courts and more. Some of these amenties are available for a daily guest fee.
Also, the town of Truckee is a charming mountain town with many restaurants, grocery stores, other specialty shops and several lakes and resevoirs nearby.
Lake Tahoe is a 30 minute drive and is not to be missed. Reno NV is about 30 minutes away as well.
The Space
Entry is on the first floor where there are two bedrooms, 1 with a kingsize bed, and the other with a bunk bed (bottom is full size, top is twin). There is also a full bathroom (with bathtub and shower) and laundry room.
Upstairs includes a bedroom, with a queen size bed, a bathroom with shower, a full kitchen and a living/dining room with smart TV.
On the third floor is a loft with a sofa that converts to a full size bed and small desk. There are also books, toys and games. We also have 3 decks, one at the entryway, another off the king size bed and one off the main living area.
Guest Access
To enter our home there are a few steps to get to our deck. Inside, our home has two sets of stairs, one of which is necessary to get to the main living area.
I would not think our home would be a good choice for people who would have difficulty navigating the stairs.

Neighbourhood
We live in Tahoe Donner. It is a combination of single family homes, townhomes and condominiums set in pine forests. We are near Trout Creek Recreation Center, The Lodge Restaurant and Z Marketplace Deli. Also within easy walking distance are nature trails to walk or bike and a beautiful 18 hole golf course.
Getting to my home
A car is needed to get to our home. Depending on where you are coming from, most people would drive on highway 80 to come to Truckee California.
Nearest airport
The nearest commercial airport is in Reno, Nevada (RNO). It is 40 miles (60 km) away. The next nearest airport is in Sacramento Airport (SMF). It is 107 miles (172 km) away. San Francisco Airport (SFO) is 198 miles (318 km) away. The very closest airport is Truckee Tahoe Airport in Truckee. It is an airport for private planes.
Getting Around
In general, a car is needed to get around town. There is some public transportation called TART that could be used at times.

Sandy and Nancy were great! We loved the location in Tahoe Donner. It was close to everything. The cabin lacked for nothing, beds were comfortable, and communication was seamless. We enjoyed a wonderful week there where we even got to wake up one morning to the season’s first snow. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you guys for letting us share your home and allowing us a wonderful vacation.
Sandy was very flexible
And communicated well as we had to postpone our exchange . During that time we discussed options and will stay in touch as PLU members .
I had a great time at Sandy and Nancy's home. The area is absolutely wonderful. I would definitely exchange with them again.
Sandy and Nancy have a wonderful place. The home is very comfortable. The location was perfect, immersed in nature, near hiking trails, and about 25 minutes to Lake Tahoe. My kids liked the Donner history museum in town, too. We also did a day trip to visit the gold discovery site at Sutter's Mill and that was pretty neat.
Sandy and Nancy were wonderful guests. Together, we have faced some uncertainty and refiguring of plans due to extreme weather at their home and an inconvenience at my home, but communication was excellent and the challenges were overcome. They were respectful houseguests and left the home in great condition. I would definitely host these ladies again!
I had great communication with these ladies about dates and their stay! They arrived and we were able to meet for a few minutes in person. They seemed to have a nice stay and left my house just as they had when they arrived. I would have them again.
Sandy and Nancy were wonderful guest. We hosted them while I was recovering from surgery so we weren’t able to spend much time together. When they were in house I barely knew they were present. The kitchen was kept clean and everything thing was left as was found. We had a lovely dinner on the last night and that was a good time. We would have them back again.
Although I didn’t meet Sandy and Nancy in person for their short stay at my condo , I feel like I did as our communication was very good and they kept me updated on their plans . They treated my home as their own , and made sure to leave it in the condition they found it . I was glad to host PLU members that were visiting local family , and their stay tied in nicely with their extended trip . Sandy and Nancy were easy and uncomplicated guests , do not hesitate to host them if they come knocking !
Nancy, Sandy, and their nephew were great guests and left the house in perfect condition. Nancy and I communicated frequently prior to the exchange and then I was able to seamlessly hand off communications to my mother-in-law, who lives in the house being exchanged. I was out of town during this exchange period, but heard nothing but good things about Nancy from my mother-in-law.
I appreciate Nancy for taking care of our house, as we would hers. We look forward to staying at Nancy's place!
Thank you, Esther. Wendy was awesome, welcoming, warm and friendly. She waited for us the evening of our arrival and showed us around the house and explained any little quirks. We felt so comfortable with her and in the house. Such a warm, cozy home!. We look forward to your visit in Truckee.
This is our first part of our hospitality exchange. Sandy and Nancy are just awesome! Even though we have never met before, it feels like long lost friends. We had some nice long conversations and shared life experiences. We enjoyed their stay so much that we have scheduled our next exchange! We look forward to visit them in California soon!!
Sandy and Nancy were great guests and very easy to communicate with. They stayed in my house for over a month and were respectful and courteous. They left it very clean and took excellent care of my house.
It was a pleasure to exchange with Jess and family. Communication was easy and we were delighted to receive a globe in exchange. We would exchange in the future if the opportunity arose!
Edith is a great communicator and easy to work with. Our home was left tidy and clean. If we get a chance to exchange in the future, we’d love to do it!
Angelina was a perfect guest! She was very flexible and accommodating with a realtor and roofers. She is very communicative and kind. I feel like we have a new friend.
She left the house in great shape. Even started the laundry before her early departure. We'd love to exchange again some day!
We were delighted to welcome Eva and family to our home recently. All of our interactions with Eva were easy and satisfying. Our experience with Eva is that she is easy to communicate with and very self sufficient. On our return home, the premises were clean and neat. Given the opportunity, we would love to exchange again sometime in the future!
We loved our time at Eva’s home! We were there recently for Major League Baseball (MLB) Spring Training. Many teams comprise the Cactus League and we went to multiple stadiums in the Phoenix area to watch them play. Eva’s home is truly spacious and comfortable. Some of our family joined us and there was room for them all. Everything needed was at the house. There is a beautiful great room with spacious kitchen, dining, living area as well as a full laundry. The back yard has an in ground pool. And we were able to park our car in their garage. Their home is filled with books and their children’s art and project work. It’s obvious from the maps that this family loves to see the world. The neighborhood is quiet and neat. There are grocery stores within a walk or very short drive. We loved our time together there and would highly recommend! We are looking forward to having them visit our home this summer!
We came to Phoenix for baseball spring training. Angelina’s home was a great home base for us as we traveled to various baseball stadiums to watch our favorite team, the San Francisco Giants! Angela’s home has everything we needed during our stay. There is even a pool in the backyard which we did not use as it was unheated. I bet it’s refreshing as the weather gets warmer. Angelina lives on a quiet street in a quiet neighborhood. Also, Angelina was very easy to communicate with and flexible. We would definitely stay there again if needed. We look forward to Angelina’s stay in our home this summer. I really appreciate the kindness and generosity of Angelina and all our exchange hosts so far. What a great way to travel! Many thanks to PLU for creating a way to make it all happen!
Barbara and Christine were beyond kind when they agreed to host us during a timeframe that was not ideal for them. We were in town to visit our dear friends who are traveling around the USA in an RV which limited our flexibility in terms of timing. We had the best time in Palm Springs, by the way.
Barbara and Christine's home is set on a small lake and they have a beautiful view from the back yard. Their home welcoming, comfortable and is made even more beautiful by how it is decorated.
Originally, they were not interested in visiting Truckee, yet they hosted us anyway. During dinner we shared that we'd be in Baja in the Spring and as it turns out, they will be visiting us there (not a place we have on PLU)!I feel like we have met two new friends! How great is that?!
Once again, we are so grateful to Barbara and Christine as well as to PLU. We have had nothing but good experiences and look forward to many more.
We were delighted when Edith accepted our exchange. We were primarily there to visit my brother, niece and great niece after our trip to Provincetown. Edith’s home was perfect for us and is in a wonderful part of town. Edith is a great communicator and an experienced exchanger. We are looking forward to having her in our home in the future. We are so grateful to Edith and to PLU for the opportunity to travel and see family, too!
Esther and her mother-in-law were great to communicate with to make this exchange happen. It was a last minute exchange and it worked out perfectly. Her home was warm and cozy. The beds were comfy, too! The location was great and easy. Very close to a beautiful park and near but not too near freeways that made it easy for getting around. Hopefully, our paths will meet again!
We LOVED our time with Shu and coach Thunder. This was our first experience with a host exchange. They have set a very high bar. Their kindness and generosity was so deeply appreciated and we felt so welcome in their home. Their home is roomy and comfortable with a beautiful backyard garden and is in an area that feels safe and is within a short drive to all the fun of New Orleans. I’ve heard others say they have made new friends during host exchanges. That has certainly been our experience. We are looking forward to their visit to Truckee, hopefully next summer.
We are so grateful to Michelle and family for exchanging their home for a globe. We stayed for over a month and during that time our daughter birthed their 2nd child. We were able to help out our family in Alhambra (in LA county) almost every day. This would have been a very expensive visit or one that was much more brief without Michelle's generosity. We had our car with us so we could get around easily. We did do a few more touristy things while there. We hiked in beautiful and nearby Deukmejian Wilderness Park and we went to very fun Palm Springs for a weekend. Michelle's home was comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Two unexpected bonuses: Michelle's neighbors, Phil and Charlene were so kind, welcoming and fun; and... heated toilet seats! The best! I should also mention that Michelle was very responsive and communicative whenever we had a question which we appreciated very much. This was our first exchange experience and we are thrilled with how it went. We hope to do many more!

Sandy & Nancy
We are retired and love to travel, meet new people and learn about new cultures and places. For the last few years we've spent winters in Baja. Nancy was a chiropractor and I was a birth and postpartum doula. We are now doing our first home exchange and have a hospitality exchange on the books. We have done short-term, ski lease and long-term renting. When we do exchange it will likely be just the two of us. We do have adult children, grandchildren and some close friends with who we occassionally travel. We offer our 3 bed, 2 bath townhome in Truckee CA, USA near Lake Tahoe in N. California. Our region, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, is truly a 4 season destination with almost unlimited outdoor activities.
