General overview
We have a sunny one bedroom apartment within a 20 minute walk to Sydney Harbour and the city. It was completely renovated 2 years ago so everything is new. The apartment block has a rooftop with views right over Sydney and downstairs there’s a gym and sauna. We are in Chippendale which has just been transformed into a trendy suburb with art galleries, bars and eateries. We are central to the university precinct with UTS, Sydney University, TAFE and private colleges nearby. We are a few minutes walk to Central Station for trains as well as bus and light rail links. A bus to the beach takes about 40 minutes. Or wander down to the harbour and take the walking track around to the Harbour Bridge or Opera House for brekky. It’s all pretty awesome - and I’m not even a tourist! A great place for an older couple to be based if visiting family in Australia or for visiting academics.
The space
The kitchen lounge area has full length windows that give you views of a small park next door and lets in plenty of sun in the afternoon. There’s a small curving staircase that takes you down to the bedroom which is flooded in sunlight most of the day. There’s an ensuite bathroom with a shower, toilet and hand basin. Both lounge and bedroom have small balconies but they’re not ideal for sitting out on. If you want to sunbathe best to head to the rooftop or over to the nearby Prince Alfred park swimming pool. Alternatively catch a train to Bondi Beach (or one of the other magnificent Eastern Suburb beaches)
Guest access
We’re on the seventh floor with lift access. The apartment block has full security with security fob entry to the building and our apartment has a deadlock - we’ve never had security issues as we’re seven floors up!
Notes
Sorry, we don’t have a garage or any car parking. We sold our car because we can walk or take public transport to most things. Their are plenty of car shares nearby.

Neighbourhood
Chippendale has just been transformed into a vibrant suburb with the new Norman Foster designed Central Park development and the arrival of some excellent new art galleries such as the White Rabbit and Phoenix performance space. They’ve also created Spice Alley, where worker’s cottages have been transformed into small eateries and bars - plus a few super deluxe hotels for the really rich. And being on the edge of the CBD (central business district) you have access to all the entertainment and food that such a cosmopolitan city offers.
Getting to my home
If you’re flying in, take the train from the airport to Central Station. We’re a five minute walk from there. Similarly, most bus and intercity train services arrive at Central.
Nearest airport
Sydney, a 10 minute train trip from our place.
Getting around
There is a major supermarket, an art house cinema and retail shops two minutes walk away in the Central Park complex. Or walk (or take the light rail but it might be slower) into the city for anything you want.

Jeannie
We are a lesbian couple from Sydney, Australia. We’ve recently retired from jobs with the State Government of NSW in the justice and health departments. We’re looking at doing a lot more travelling with our preferred destinations London and Europe. We have previously rented our place out through Airbnb so we know what it’s like to be trusting of others and also make sure your property is in tip top condition. We definitely treat other people’s places like our own. And a propos of nothing: we’re both keen runners with a few half marathons under our belts. Very slow ones. We can provide details of the most stunning running and walking areas around Sydney!
"Would like to swap for 4 weeks or more anytime from May till September"

View from our rooftop garden (11th floor) showing the award winning Central Park tower with its cantilevered light canopy. The vertical landscape tower was designed in collaboration with French botanist and artist Patrick Blanc covers approximately 50% of the building's façade area.
View from the rooftop garden over Sydney city. This was taken in winter but the temperature was going to be a sunny 20 degrees.
Part of the ground floor gym. There is a sauna in the other corner.
