Neighbourhood

Crown and RIO/Washingtonian neighborhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland is an urban-inspired area that provides a variety of housing options, parks, shopping venues, restaurants, a grocery store, and a fitness club. It also offers pedestrian-friendly shopping and entertainment complex set around a lake. Amenities and attractions include some of the major retail stores, almost two dozen restaurants and bars, and spas. There is a boardwalk around the lake, AMC/Loews RIO Cinemas 18, Washingtonian Paddleboats, and Muse Paintbar. During the summer months, you can enjoy outdoor musical entertainment and dine alfresco. There is also a carousel overlooking the lake. The bustling center in the summer has Saturday events, such as local band concerts, wine tastings, and Zumba classes. Washington, DC is only 25 miles away - a short jump via an adjacent highway or a neighborhood shuttle to the metro red line. Enjoy a day exploring the rich history and culture of the capital, and then return to your suburban retreat in Gaithersburg. DC is a gorgeous green city with wide streets and beautiful architecture. It has many attractions - to list a few, you can go to the National Mall: This area is home to numerous monuments and memorials, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capitol Building. Visit the Smithsonian Institution: This group of museums and research centers includes the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of American History, and the National Zoo. The National Gallery of Art offers an extensive collection of European and American art. The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is dedicated to documenting, studying, and interpreting the history of the Holocaust. The Tidal Basin is especially beautiful during the Cherry Blossom Festival in the spring. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world. It has millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps, and manuscripts in its collections. While the White House tours must be arranged in advance, seeing the home and office of the U.S. president is a memorable experience. There are many, many more attractions in the city worth exploring. If you want to enjoy nature, Maryland has the Sugarloaf Mountain and Comus Winery. You can also enjoy Great Falls in Virginia, and many other local destinations.

Getting around

Everything you will need to enjoy yourself is within a very short walking distance. The only time you will need a car is getting to and from the airport, although you can get here via public transportation and the neighborhood shuttle (it will just take you longer). You can use the shuttle and metro to go to DC. Alternatively, you can drive to the metro and leave your car there, or brave the DC parking.
