General overview

I LOVE where we live. Being within 5 minutes from the sea is how I grew up and how I intend my children to grow up! We live in a small, quiet seaside community. The house is located within easy reach by foot or car of a few villages boasting restaurants, cafes and galleries. There is plenty of nature to explore!

The space

The house is Victorian style. Downstairs you enter in a spacious living area with seating for 4 + people and a log burner. The living area leads into the kitchen/dining room which has all the necessary amenities. There is a small utility room and toilet/electric shower located at the back of the kitchen. Through a small conservatory you will find a fully enclosed garden with artificial turf and a garage to store outdoor equipment. Up some fairly steep stairs is a wide landing, with the master bedroom to your right. This room is light and generously sized with tall ceilings and period features. To the left of the stairs is a room equipped with a bunk bed, perfect for children. There is also a recently refurbished large family bathroom/wetroom with wall in shower and a bath. Through a narrow door you will find another flight of steep stairs leading you to a converted attic space. This is set up as a bedroom/playroom with a double bed and a futon sofa for extra sleeping. Please note: This room can get white hot in the summer and cooler in the winter.

Guest access

There are 3 steps to enter the property, which is located on a hill. There is no on site parking but plenty of free road parking along the street. The garden is located to the back of the house, and is on two levels. There are two sets of fairly steep stairs in the house to take you to the first floor and attic.

Neighbourhood

The house is situated in a small village, but is within quick walking distance of a few shops, pubs, fish and chip shops as well as a swimming pool. Two seaside villages are each within a 5 minute drive or 15-20min its walk. North Devon is a coastal area of southwest England, known for its dramatic cliffs, wild seas and sandy beaches at Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay. Natural features range from biodiverse sand dunes at Braunton Burrows to rocky coves along the South West Coast Path, which spans the coastline. The Tarka Trail footpath and cycleway passes the riverfront, medieval town of Barnstaple. Its range of award winning sandy beaches are perfect for rockpooling, swimming and surfing (amongst other sports). There is a large walking and cycling community. With Dartmoor and a exmoor National Parks both within easy reach. The bordering county of Cornwall can be reached within 45 minutes and there is plenty to be enjoyed on a day trip such as Tintagel castle, Boscastle and Polzeath.

Getting to my home

The nearest airport is Bristol. The most local train station is Barnstaple and from here, trains run to the nearest big cities including Exeter, Plymouth and Tiverton. From the train stations you will need to either drive or get a taxi to the house. Bus travel is possible but times are more limited.

Nearest airport

Bristol airport is around a 2.5-3 hour drive.

Getting around

There is some amenities within walking distance. And a small shop to buy daily fresh items. There is also a bus stop very close to the house. To see North Devon best I would recommend a car.

Jen

Hi 👋🏻 I’m Jen! I’m a single Mum to two young children, but part of a large extended family unit here in North Devon, England. I’m a Speech and Language Therapist for the NHS and although I love to travel, I have found it difficult since being tied to the school holidays. We are sociable and outdoorsy, spending most of our time at the beach or with friends and family.
