Our apartment has the charm of the old: high ceilings, floor tiles or light oak parquet, moldings and frescoes on the ceiling. Large volumes which allow to keep a relative freshness in the heart of a lively and warm city. We are remarkably well located, 10 minutes walk from St Charles station and 15 minutes from the Old Port. Metro, trams and buses take you everywhere, especially to the beach of Catalans or those of Malmousque.
Marseille is also a gateway to Provence: the Calanques, Aix-en-Provence, Sainte-Victoire, Cassis, the hills of the hinterland... Don't forget your sticks and your walking shoes in addition to your swimsuits!
The space
Our apartment is located in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille, at the top of La Canebière, in a former private mansion. Built at the end of the 19th century by a Marseille shipowner.
The apartment was completely renovated in 2020. Jérôme and I did all the decorating ourselves: it was a great adventure!
Guest access
We are on the 2nd floor, without elevator. It is therefore not suitable for people with reduced mobility unfortunately.
Notes
We have two beautiful bedrooms with double beds, and two private bathrooms. The large sofa in the living room will provide an extra bed for a fifth and sixth visitor.
We have 165 m2 and our windows face East and West. In summer it is relatively dark due to the leaves of the plane trees, which was intended as a kind of "natural air conditioning". Despite this, it can be quite hot in the height of summer. We then use fans for the night.
Out of season, the sun enters everywhere, bringing light and warmth.

Neighbourhood
We are close to the famous "Cours Julien", one of the youngest and most lively districts of Marseille, without being impacted by it because outside the streets of restaurants and bars. At the top of the Canebière, we benefit from the cultural offers of the district: Opéra, Théâtre de l'Odéon, cinema d'Art et d'Essai du Splendide, and the Artplexe, an exceptional cinema complex. If we do not have a garden to offer you, we nevertheless have many rooftop terraces offering views of the entire harbor of Marseille or other patios to discover in our neighborhood.
Getting to my home
To reach us, the easiest way is by train (St Charles station 10 mins walk), or by plane. Then, everything is done by public transport and on foot. We do not have an assigned parking space.
Nearest airport
Marseille Marignane airport (Marseille Provence) is connected to St Charles station by a shuttle that runs every 20 minutes
Getting around
At the bottom of our street are the Réformés-Canebière metro station, 3 bus lines and 1 tram. With this you will be connected to the Old Port, the beaches, the shopping streets such as the pedestrian street St Féréol, or the rue Grignan with its luxury stores. As well as the typical districts of Noailles, Roucas Blanc, Notre Dame de la Garde or the famous Corniche Kennedy.

Aliette
We are Jérôme and Aliette, a couple of "young" retirees. We have 4 children and only one granddaughter so far. We have traveled extensively around the world and are determined to continue by exchanging our large, very central Marseille apartment for a house or apartment anywhere in France or abroad. One or other of our children may join us on occasion.
This exchange formula is new to us but we know how it works. We really like the principle, based on mutual trust. We will be happy to let a family enjoy our charming old apartment, which we have largely restored ourselves.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
