General overview
Lahti, the Green Capital of Europe in 2021, is full of beautiful forests, parks and reserves with amazing hiking trails and viewpoints. Unique formations established by the last Ice Age, the Salpausselkä Ridges create varied landscapes that can be admired in the Salpausselkä Geopark, which is found basically throughout the area. The tap water in Lahti has been certified by UNESCO as “the best drinking water in the world”. The entire region, Päijät-Häme, is famous for its many natural attractions.
Our house is located in the best area of Lahti - the idyllic Antilanmäki, which is like a small village, but next to the central railway station and close to the city center of Lahti. It takes less than an hour from our doorstep to the center of Finland's capital, vibrant Helsinki. However, Antilanmäki is a unique neighborhood full of old wooden houses, narrow streets and green areas that invite you to enjoy summer and autumn. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR NOW
In summer 2023, we will only visit A Coruna, Spain. But we are already planning the summer 2024, as well, and for 2024, we look for a few weeks in August/September in a beautiful setting by the sea. It doesn't matter which country or area, as long as we can travel from Finland by train & ferry, so within Europe (we are not flying, for ecological reasons). We hope to find a smoke-free house whose owner only uses fragrance free laundry detergents (essential oils in organic products are fine).
The space
Our house has three floors, three bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with a jacuzzi, one with a rain shower), a balcony where you can pick ripe apples directly from our nearby apple trees.
Our garden also has pears, blackberries, currants and raspberries, and also many vegetables: lettuce, carrots, spinach, etc. Everything is grown organically and you are free to enjoy everything that grows there.
In the kitchen we have a Vitamix, Moccamaster blender, several espresso machines, Japanese teapots for different types of tea, and many other kitchen utensils. We use only fragrance-free products in cleaning, and the house has high ceilings and is made of timber, so the air is very fresh.
In the living room, we have two idyllic fireplaces. There are also many books in English on the large bookshelf, and some books in Spanish are available at the nearby library. We have an electric cargo bike and several ordinary bikes that you can borrow.
Guest access
2 main floors plus a storage floor downstairs. You can use the whole house and the garden.

People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
The living room has two working fireplaces. It's very luminous in the afternoons and early evening.
The library half of the living room has a dining table.
The kitchen is very luminous in the morning and early afternoon.
The main bedroom has a king-size (180cm) bed and double black-out curtains.
The downstairs bedroom also has a king-size (180cm) bed, and space for two people to work (two desks).
The third bedroom has a kid-size (150 cm) bed and two futon mattresses. We also own a crib and a travel bed for small kids, in case you travel with more kids.
The jacuzzi is big enough for two adults or three kids.
The downstairs bathroom has a rain shower.
The barrio is full of old houses and green trees, so it's a lovely place to take walks.
Lapakisto, a forest where we like to go for hiking (20 minutes bus/car ride from our place).
Pulkkilanharju has been chosen the most beautiful road in Finland. It's a nice trip to make (30 minutes drive from our place).
We like to do SUP boarding in Mukkulanranta (20 minutes by bike from our place). You can borrow our SUP boards if you like. In Mukkulanranta you can also take a 3-hour course on wind-surfing. Vesijärvi is a perfect place for water sports!
