General overview
This house has a fantastic floor plan. The vaulted ceiling makes the open living room (has a sleeper sofa), dining room, and kitchen feel spacious even with your entire group gathering there. We have a driveway that will easily accommodate two vehicles.
We love the location - we are 3 miles from historic downtown St. Augustine and all that it has to offer - Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, St. George Street, Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, Bridge of Lions, Flagler College, Lightner Museum, and many fabulous restaurants. We are also 5 miles from the nearest beach, 5 miles to the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime museum. We are 20 miles to Marineland, 39 miles to both Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra. For longer day trips we are 55 miles to Daytona Beach, 120 miles to the Kennedy Space Center and to Disney World. Please visit us and explore all the beautiful Northeast Florida has to offer! St. Augustine has something for everyone - excellent restaurants, bars, and distilleries, great shopping, fishing, golf, wonderful beaches, plenty of tourist attractions, and incredible history!
The space
The house has 3 bedrooms (1 bedroom with a king sized bed, 1 bedroom with a queen sized bed , and 1 bedroom with two twin XL beds) and two full bathrooms. When using the sleeper sofa in the living room we can accommodate up to 8 people. Each bedroom has a closet with plenty of storage space. The largest bedroom as an en suite full bathroom and features a walk in shower.
The kitchen is bright, updated, well equipped and we have seating at the kitchen island as well as the dining table.
Our laundry room has a washer/dryer, ironing board and plenty of organizational space.
The front porch is covered and has 4 outdoor chairs and is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee or tea. We do have a small deck that is off the kitchen on the side of the house. The entire back yard is enclosed with a privacy fence - great back yard for pets. We use a septic system and the backyard has a septic mound. It is hard to see in the pictures but it is covered with grass as is basically an area of the back yard that is elevated a couple of feet and then has a flat area - it is a like a small plateau.
Guest access
Our house is a ranch style house which means that there are no steps/stairs in the house. We have two steps from the driveway to the front porch/entrance to the house. You will have access to the entire driveway, house and back yard during your stay.
Notes
We do have a Ring Doorbell camera that faces from the front door to the driveway. That is the only camera on the property.

Neighbourhood
The nearest Publix grocery store is less than 2 miles away. We are in a quiet neighborhood where you can escape the hustle and bustle of downtown but still have quick access to downtown St. Augustine is only 3 miles away. The aerial pictures (taken in fall of 2022) show the current state of the neighborhood, but this area is developing so reach out if you are interested in an exchange and I can tell you if the trees/forest is still across the street or if other houses have been built. Just want to make sure that you have an up to date idea about the neighborhood.
Getting to my home
The Jacksonville International Airport is approximately 52 miles away and the Orlando Sanford International Airport is approximately 97 miles away.
Our home is approximately a 10-15 minute drive off of Interstate I 95.

We had a lovely holiday at Pat's place. We spent just over a week there with my parents and the house was a great base for exploring St. Augustine. Pat was a fabulous host - always available for any questions we had and an excellent curated map of the top spots to visit and eat at in the area. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Pat directly but we did get to meet his lovely parents who made the journey to the house to pick up a few little gifts we had brought along and to assist with the final cleaning details as we opt to pay for a cleaner in order to leave the house perfect for the next guests. The description and the pictures give you a good feel for the property so there are no surprises. We cooked many meals in and the kitchen is well set up for you. All in all another fantastic exchange in the books for us.
Pat and Valerie are so friendly and welcoming to their gorgeous, new home. The kitchen and front room layout were ideal for our 4 adults making meals together in the evenings after the daily activities. And St Augustine is one of my favorite places to visit. History, beaches, downtown, golf, lots of museums, and just such a beautiful area. Loved it! I look forward to welcoming them to my home next! :)
We enjoyed having Pat and his parents stay in our Venice Beach house this weekend. They left the house so perfectly clean that I would have believed they were never actually here! Pat has been so accommodating as I have delayed committing to a date for our non-reciprocal visit to his home in St. Augustine. I can't wait to finally get there in the near future!
We absolutely loved our exchange experience with Chris and Emilie and their two lovely children Jacob and Josie! I truly felt the real feeling behind PLU as I feel that we have made lifelong friends with Emilie and Chris through this exchange! They are such wonderful and kind people and it was so exciting to meet them after several months of planning together, messaging, and connecting through zoom. I live near Cincinnati, Ohio, but I flew down to meet Emilie and Chris during the beginning of their stay. My parents live about 15 minutes from my St. Augustine house and my parents also really connected with entire Kellett family and even spent a couple of afternoons with them after I returned to Cincinnati. As I mentioned - we feel like we have made lifelong friends (my mom is considering traveling with us to England in the future so that she can see the Kellett family again) they are just super people! Beyond being great people - they are the type of guests that you want you your home! They are just so positive - you feel it in their communications and really feel it when with them in person. They left our home cleaner than they found it! They were so understanding and wonderful about an external wifi issue that had the wifi down for a couple of days. I just can't say enough great things about Chris and Emilie! If you ever get the chance to do an exchange with them - please do it you will have a top notch experience!
Just completed an exchange with Amy and Jay and we had a fabulous visit to Venice, Florida! Amy and Jay have a beautiful home and we (I met my parents in Venice) loved the floor plan! Their house is beautiful and is wonderfully decorated. We loved the wall decor and color scheme throughout the house. The dining room table is also beautiful. Beautiful plants surround the house and were just a joy to look at! Everything that we needed was in the house. Amy was excellent with communication throughout the whole exchange and while we have never met, I get the feel that is a very kind and considerate person. We loved the gem, that is the town of Venice, Florida. We really liked the piers and beaches and watching the sunset. Venice is a great location with everything that you need and is centrally located to offer excellent day trips. If you are considering the gulf coast of Florida, this would be an excellent choice!
We loved being able to host Dejah and David who traveled with Dejah's parents to our home in St. Augustine, Florida. I do not live in the area and unfortunately was not able to meet Dejah in person, but we had excellent communications throughout their visit. My mom lives in St. Augustine and was able to meet Dejah and David when she stopped over to pick up some gifts that they brought for us. My mom couldn't stop talking about how nice and friendly Dejah, David and her parents were! Dejah took great care of our home while there for the ten day visit and we would welcome them back anytime and so should you - great guests and great people!
This was my first PLU exchange experience and I am so glad that this first exchange involved Emily! Even though we only communicated through the platform, email, or text - you can just tell that Emily is such a friendly and genuine person. She has had exchange experience and helped me navigate through the nuances of a formal exchange. She was a truly outstanding guest! She is very quick to communicate and left our place is beautiful shape! Emily is simply top notch!
