General overview
Our home is an older French colonial-style duplex home at the end of a quiet Vietnamese street with a mixture of large villas and also local housing. Our pool is NOT FENCED, so our home is not suitable for people with young children.
Within 3 blocks of our home, we have a couple of authentic rustic Vietnamese cafes serving amazing coffee, a couple of local street sellers to buy your fruit and vege, and street food. Life is happening on the street around you, with families playing badminton and kids kicking soccer balls in the street.
Within a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive, you can be in the bustling village of Thao Dien - with wonderful restaurants, a thriving cafe scene, quirky stores, and busy busy roads! Thao Dien is beside the Saigon River, which offers some lovely views, especially at night time.
We are about 20 minutes away from District 1, with several places to check out - monuments, war remnants museum, antique street, book street, and bustling markets for picking up trinkets and knock-offs.
Nearby Saigon is the Cu Chi tunnels, and also the Mekong Delta which is fabulous for day or overnight tours. Beach resorts are 2-2.5 hours away.
The space
Our house is a 3-story villa attached to the neighbours building.
We have a private swimming pool which is NOT FENCED, so this house is not suitable for people with young children.
The large windows and french doors allow the outside to come in, and the rooftop is also a special space to work out, do yoga in the early morning, or listen to the neighborhood sounds once the sun has gone down.
On the ground floor are the living room and dining area, and the kitchen with an oven, microwave, and thermomix, but no dishwasher.
There is also a guest bedroom with queen size bed, with a small Asian-style wet-bathroom ensuite. There is also another bathroom outside next to the swimming pool, with wet-bathroom-style shower and toilet.
Upstairs there is an area for kids with lego. We don't have many toys but we have SO much lego as well as board games and some art supplies. There are two bedrooms (used by our children), one has 2 x king single beds, the other has a double bed (this bedroom will be unavailable for hosting PLU'ers). Each of these bedrooms has its own ensuite (wet-bathrooms).
The master bedroom is also on this floor and has an ensuite which has the only Western-style bathroom, complete with an enclosed shower and large bathtub. The master bedroom has French doors which open onto the wrap-around balcony and the street below.
On the top floor is an outdoor patio that we use for working out or having a wine in the evening. There are some different hand weights and yoga mats there you can use. There is also the laundry area (washing machine only) and clotheslines.
Our private pool is heavenly for an early morning 5 am swim as the neighborhood starts waking up, or during the hot day, or for drinking cocktails next to the pool (we have a Thermomix with lots of yummy tropical cocktail recipes).
Guest access
We have 3 floors, all accessible by stairs. There is a downstairs bedroom for guests that may not be able to climb stairs easily.
Notes
Our house has a lot of character, but it is older and unrenovated - it's VERY rustic. Please don't come expecting a nicely decorated/finished space. Often these old places are difficult to make look clean as well, so despite scrubbing, the age of the property does impact its look.
We are also busy family people - and we prioritize family fun and exploration and travel over keeping a magazine-worthy house.
We employ a man who comes to clean the pool 3 x a week, and we also have a home helper who usually works Monday-Friday 1pm-7pm. She is available to come and be in the house as much or as little as you want - and can help with cleaning the house and preparing delicious lunches and Vietnamese dinners. She can also babysit. We continue to pay her when we are on holiday, so she will come at no extra cost to you (except for babysitting), although a tip would be wonderful if you do decide to have her help you.

Neighbourhood
Living in an authentic Vietnamese neighborhood comes with some realities. The house isn't soundproof, so you will occasionally hear dogs, the neighbors, the garbage truck early in the morning, and roosters. We do have an air purifier in the bedroom which act as white noise.
There are dogs roaming around, the ones in our local neighbourhood are completely harmless, and there are local people who come by to collect the trash and recycling.
Getting to my home
Once you land in the airport, it's about a 30 minute drive, and we can help you download the app you'll need to book a car to pick you up.
If you are stopping here for awhile and want to see more of Vietnam, we can recommend some beach trips, jungle national park, and other places to go within a 4 hour drive of Saigon.
Getting around
Once you are at our home, we have 1 x 50CC scooter that you can drive around legally without a driver's license.
You can easily walk around our quiet neighbourhood for coffee, basic food, fruit, vegetables.
Supermarkets with imported goods are nearby (15 minutes walk, 5 minute motorbike/taxi ride).
You can walk around Thao Dien village, or easily take Grab taxi's.
If you don't want to drive yourself on the motorbikes, you can easily use Grab rideshare which is very cheap, and you can also walk yourself around easily (although it's an adventure!!). We can help you with contacts for drivers, taxi apps, tour guides, etc.

We are a fun-loving active family of 5 who have lived an international lifestyle for over 12 years.
We value experiences over possessions, and love hiking, adventures, and exploring new places.
We are international educators who like to travel so our home is often available during Vietnamese school holidays. This includes 2 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks at Tet (Vietnamese new year), mid week breaks in April and October, and summer holiday in July (4-5 weeks).
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
