General overview
Our main house is a two bedroom traditional adobe home sitting on a two acre lot. There is also a guest house which includes another bedroom, kitchen and living space. Our house is located in El Prado, New Mexico and just 15 minutes to either Taos Plaza or Taos Ski Valley.

Taos is a town in northern New Mexico’s high desert, bounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and known for its longtime artist colony. Taos offers many galleries and museums in which to explore the regional artwork & cultural. Visit the historic World Heritage Site, Taos Pueblo, a multistory adobe complex inhabited by Native Americans for centuries.
Taos is also a foodie's paradise with more than 50 restaurants, some serving famous Southwest cuisine including local red and green chili. There is also a vibrant bar & music scene throughout the entire area.
Come for the snow sports at the world class resort of the Taos Ski Valley, known for the best skiing/snowboarding in New Mexico. Here you can experience the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the famous champagne snow which the region is known for.

Nearest airport
Airports: The nearest airport is Taos regional airport (10 minutes from our house) though there are a limited number of flights by Taos air. The two other closest airports are in Santa Fe, SAF (1 1/2 hours) and a larger airport in Albuquerque ABQ (2 hours).

We ended our month long exchange adventure at Leslie and Don’s beautiful adobe New Mexico retreat during our final week before heading home to NY. The style of the home has authentic feel and is oh so comfortable. The house was well appointed and we felt very welcome. Everything about this home is perfect and October was the best time for a visit. The nights were cool and crisp and the days were in the 60’s with bright warming continual sunshine. There were so many beautiful sights that were recommended we tried our best to squeeze in as much as possible. There is so much to see in this area of New Mexico. The scenery was breathtaking. We were sad to miss the Pueblo Taos historic site due to closure because of COVID. We were delighted how seriously New Mexico took COVID precautions. This is the only state we visited where absolutely everyone indoors was wearing a mask. We felt safe during all of our indoor activities. The location of the home was perfect and surrounded on all sides with exceptional views. We made sure we were up to see the sunrise and back from the day’s activities in time to take the in the sunset every day. The home is very private and quiet. It is surrounded by aromatic sage brush. We enjoy watching wildlife we encountered in the sage brush. Magpies, roadrunners and a variety of lizards frequented the area. The home has nicely landscaped outdoor living areas that are very inviting. One of the highlights of our visit was golf at the Taos Country Club it is a well maintained course , with excellent views and a nice pace of play. We liked it so much we visited twice. Leslie and Don made everything easy and we look forward to hosting them in October 2022. Don’t miss this exchange it is one of the best.
