General overview
I moved into this house as a renter, with roommates, in 2002 when I started my Master of Architecture training. I dreamt of buying the home and adding additional floors to further capitalize on the incredible views! One husband, two kids, a fur baby, and many many years of hard work, designing (and re-designing!), and building.... our dream has come true! Because we have lived here for so long, we really were able to design this house to maximize both privacy and views of the Cascade Mountain Range, Mt. Rainier, Puget Sound/Elliot Bay, Mt. Baker and the Ballard, Bridge, etc. We also maximized its sustainable features - a solar system, and large windows/roof windows/sliding doors allowing for lots of passive ventilation and cross-ventilation in the summer, and a unique and cozy fireplace to snuggle up and enjoy the views in the winter. Our rooftop features a fire table and you can even pick herbs grown there for your meals made in our chef's kitchen, roast some s'mores over the fire, or play a game of corn-hole! Enjoy!
The space
Large living/dining areas, large deck off of the kitchen with dining table and gas BBQ.
Additional movie/media room with large comfortable seating for a group!
Large office for 2+ to work from home with high speed internet.
Large rooftop deck with outdoor sofas, adirondack chairs, fire pit/coffee table, cornhole game, herb garden, etc.
The house sits atop a very steep hill and has a greenbelt below it - so the views are protected, you will enjoy plenty of privacy, AND you're likely to have lots of hummingbirds, blue jays, seagulls, and even bald eagles flying by (or visiting, in the case of the blue jays and the hummingbirds!) I plant the planters on the decks and at the front of the house with lots of flowers that the hummingbirds are particularly fond of, so it's very likely that they'll visit you while you're having your morning coffee on the deck admiring the views!
Primary bedroom features exquisite views of the Cascade Range, Mount Rainier, and Elliot Bay - even from the bathtub (with privacy shades if you would like them!) It has an ensuite bathroom with a large shower with dual shower heads, a private toilet closet for the wc, a soaking tub, heated floors, and dual vanities. It features a split-california king adjustable bed for comfort!
One kid's bedroom features bunk beds (twin bed on top, full bed below) and the other kid's bedroom has one queen bed.
Chef's kitchen and every kitchen gadget/utensil you will want or need. A 3/4 bathroom on the kitchen/dining/living/movie room level is convenient and also has heated floors to be extra cozy!
Small play room in the basement.
The whole house is wired for high speed wifi, and high-fidelity sound system (including outside on both decks)!
Guest access
There are a lot of stairs in the house so not the best house for people with mobility issues.
Notes
Guests will have access to upper three floors of the house, and also part of the basement level. We rent the other portion of the basement out to permanent tenants. There is no access to our house from their unit. Please do take care to respect their privacy and keep noise to a minimum in the bedrooms later in the evenings/early morning. Our living area (not the bedrooms) is up two floors from the basement apartment, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about noise in the kitchen/dining/living/movie room, etc. Just take a bit more care to limit noise in the bedrooms (and primary bath, kids' bath on the bedroom level) during reasonable hours for others to be sleeping; it would be appreciated.
We have a wonderful cat named Alice. She's affectionate, but would prefer to sit near you rather than ON you. She doesn't travel with us, so she'll need you to care for her while staying in our home, but she's very easy and quite independent! (She's also very quiet). We have coyotes and raccoons in the neighborhood, so you'll need to take care that she does NOT get outside of the house (though she IS allowed on the decks, just be sure not to lock her outside when you come in!)
I have a lot of houseplants (as you might see in the images!), so those may need some love in the way of watering here and there, but it should be very easy with instructions. And they make the house feel much more like a home!
Allergen details: We have hardwood, polished concrete, and tile floors throughout. We have a few area rugs (living and family rooms, kids' bedrooms)... and our very small play room has wall-to-wall "FLOR" carpet tiles that are very low pile. So while we have a cat, the hair/dander is really kept to a minimum as the vast majority of the floor surfaces are hard/easily vacuumed and easily mopped! We do have several down comforters/pillows, but we have a few synthetic ones if anyone is allergic to feathers, just let us know.
We tend to like fitted sheets + duvet covers on comforters (no top sheet), but we have top sheets for anyone who wants one, just let us know so we remember to put those on!
No smoking allowed in the house OR ON THE PREMISES.
No additional pets allowed in the house. Thank you!

Neighbourhood
Discovery Park
Close to downtown Seattle
Close to popular neighborhoods of Ballard, Queen Anne, Lower Queen Anne (location of Seattle Center/Space Needle/Pacific Science Center), Fremont, etc.
We are very close to the cruise terminals so it's very easy to tack on a stay at our home before or after a cruise to Alsaka, etc.
We have several beaches in our neighborhood and closeby, the Ballard Locks and Botanical Gardens are very close... As is Golden Gardens (incredible beach for sunsets, etc.) and The Nordic Heritage Museum, much of it is close enough to walk via the locks, but there are large hills so many prefer to drive or bike. We do have lime bikes/scooters in the neighborhood. We are close to many restaurants, a great Irish Pub at the bottom of our hill, and coffee shops, etc. We have 4 grocery stores very close by including a Whole Foods.
Nearest airport
SEATAC airport is about 30-45 minutes away by car, depending on traffic. You can uber or taxi here, rent a car, or take the light rail to downtown Seattle and then Uber from there.
Getting around
We are about 10-15 minutes from downtown Seattle by car depending on traffic. (For example, to Pike Place Market, etc.) There are a lot of bike paths close by if you want to rent lime bikes. We have two SUPS that you can inflate and take to launch close to our home (5 minutes) in either salt water (Puget Sound) or fresh water (Lake Washington). It's about 45 minutes plus to drive to things like Snoqualmie Falls and other mountain sights! Lots of hiking within an hour, or hiking trails in Discovery Park just 5 minutes from our house (it's HUGE, and on the water with beaches!) You can see orcas, sea lions, seals, etc. from these beaches depending on the time of year.
