Neighbourhood
Since we live in a rural area, it is necessary to drive for most shopping experiences. There is a large grocery store 15 min. away, with smaller stores a little bit closer. There is a weekly farmer's market 10 min. away. The post office, library and some basic restaurants are about 10 min. away, but we'd recommend eating out in Asheville instead.
We live in a rural setting with farms, single family dwellings and estates of several hundred hectares. Our neighbors represent almost a full spectrum of the types of people in the US from the most humble to the least, from conservative to liberal, from wealthy to those living from paycheck to paycheck. We have lived here 17 years and have left our car keys in our unlocked cars in the driveway for almost the entire time!
Nearest airport
AVL is the closest airport (45 min. drive) although we use CLT (2.5 hr) and GSP (1.5 hr) sometimes.
Getting Around
Depending on our travel plans, we have up to 2 vehicles to offer and hopefully, you have a vehicle for us to use as well. Once in Asheville, most people find walking around the downtown area or taking a hop on hop off bus works well. There are excellent scenic drives in the area we encourage you to visit.

We had the pleasure of hosting Thea and her lovely family, and we could not have asked for better guests. From the outset, communication was clear, friendly, and timely - making the planning process smooth and enjoyable.
They left our home absolutely spotless and took wonderful care of our plants. It’s clear they are experienced, respectful travellers, and we really appreciated how thoughtful and considerate they were throughout their stay.
We would happily recommend them to any host and would welcome them back anytime!
Thea and family were a very nice group , very respectful with my flat and car …. ( Thea , how do you manage to clean so well the shower’s glass !!!! It was shining !!!!🤩😎)
Enjoy your holidays !!!!
We truly enjoyed our time in Farzana and Wayne's home. It's quite comfortable and had plentiful beds for our family of 5. We loved the well-provisioned kitchen with espresso machine and the pizza oven. Their homes' minimalist esthetic, in addition to the existing cleanliness, made it easy to keep tidy. The nearby beach has lovely sand dunes and is a great place for shell seekers. Exploring surrounding areas was a breeze because the home has easy access to the highway and proximity to several desirable day trip locations on the North Island including the Coromandel Peninsula and Rotorua.
Communication with Farzana was great including chats up to and during the visit. We also appreciated their clear home guide and a few shared "how to" videos.
Thank you, Thea. We are so glad you and your family enjoyed your time at our place. It’s lovely to hear the kitchen and pizza oven came in handy, and your comment on the minimalist aesthetic definitely made my day. Wayne still thinks we have too much stuff, though :-)
We really appreciated how spotless everything was left. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we wish you many more wonderful adventures ahead.
We had a very nice stay at Cathy’s apartment in the hustle and bustle of city life. Communication with Cathy was excellent. She took the time to meet us at our metro stop and give us a tour of the apartment to show us things we would need to know during our stay. The apartment was clean and everything was in working order. The minimalist design made clean up easy.
We appreciated being outside of the typical trappings of tourist areas. Everything we needed was just a short walk away or easily accessible by public transportation. Even access to the Calanques National Park was a short bus ride that picked us up right across the street and a highlight of our time in Marseille for us. Thank you for sharing your home with us Cathy!

Our family of 5 enjoy the outdoors and are excited to travel. We homeschool and work remotely so are able to take trips at most any time of the year. We have had several visitors from throughout the world and enjoy learning about other cultures and foods. We have been house sitters and exchangers before on other platforms and have cared for our neighbor's and family's homes. Our children range in age from 12-18 and are very respectful of other people's things.
