Neighbourhood
University Park, Maryland is an historic, tree-lined community next to the University of Maryland campus. Full of beautiful old and grand homes and friendly, professional neighbors with a real sense of community. We have our own small police department, mayor, public works and town hall.
We are 12 miles from the White House and everything Washington DC has to offer. It is an easy drive or hop on the metro near the house and be there in 20 minutes. Explore the National Mall with all it's world-class (and free!) Smithsonian Museums and art galleries. You can wander in each one and spend just 30 minutes to see what you want and don't feel like you have to stay for hours because they are all free! There are many beautiful monuments dotted around the mall, which is very pedestrian friendly, but also has a free circulator bus and lots of bike and scooter rentals available. Take a picnic to eat on the mall at sunset then tour the monuments lit up at night! Take a boat tour on the Potomac and see it all from the water. Rent kayaks or paddle boards in Georgetown and explore small islands in the river. The house is located on the green line metro which will also take you right to Nationals Park to catch a baseball game from April-September.
DC is home to many amazing neighborhoods, architecture, restaurants, historic sites (like Ford's Theatre where Lincoln was assassinated), theaters, waterfront areas, sports teams, stadiums and so much more!
Nearest airport
30 mins from BWI Baltimore Washington International Airport and 45 mins from IAD Dulles International Airport.
Getting around
The metro can take you all over D.C. and northern Virginia for sightseeing. It is a pleasant walk to the College Park metro station in 10-15 minutes depending how fast you walk. The trains run every 10 minutes and it takes 25 minutes to the National Mall in downtown DC. The metro runs until midnight Mon-Fri and Sunday and until 1am on Fri and Sat night.
Trader Joes, Whole Foods, lots of restaurants, shops, downtown College Park and the University of Maryland campus are a short 10 minute walk away. If driving, the National Mall downtown is 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
Baltimore, Annapolis and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay are 45 minutes away by car.
The New Carrollton Amtrak train station is a 15 minute Uber ride away, which will take you directly to New York in 3 hours and Boston in 6 by rail!
