General overview
** Open to long weekends or longer exchanges within New Zealand. Also keen for a 2-4 week exchange June/July/August 2025 overseas. Flexible on location. **
Modern, peaceful home surrounded by forest, 5 minute drive to Nelson city centre. We call it our “hidden oasis” as it feels rural but we are very close to town and all the amenities. Our house is at the end of an easy access private drive in small residential area.
Our home is a passive solar design home with a concrete slab floor, which means it is nice and cool in summer and extra warm in winter. We also have 2 heat pumps and a log burner for cosy winter nights.
The space
Our home has 4 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms:
- One superking
- One queen
- One child’s room with single bed
- One child’s room with cot
Master bedroom has an en suite with walk in shower. Main family bathroom has a stand alone shower and bath tub. There is also a separate toilet.
Our home is bright and airy with lots of windows and natural light with forest views from almost every room. We have AC/ heat pump (x 2), wood burner, Apple TV, Netflix and fast fibre wifi.
We have a 3 year old and a baby, so our home is child friendly and set up with everything you would need for kids.
Our garden is all native plantings to blend in with the surrounding landscape. We also have a trampoline, play house and sand pit for the children.
We have stacking doors which open out onto the deck from the lounge. There is outdoor furniture on the deck and also off one of the bedrooms to enjoy the garden and surrounding forest views.
Guest access
The house is all on one level and has 4 doors to the outside. The master bedroom and one of the guestrooms have private entrances.

Neighbourhood
We live in The Brook in Nelson, very close to the Brook pest free sanctuary so we have amazing bird life in our garden. We are surround by forest, but still very close to Nelson cbd.
We have hiking and mountain biking tracks from the doorstep. The Brook Sanctuary has lovely walks for all abilities, as well as Eureka Park redwood trail, the Grampians walks, Codgers mountain bike hub and The Dun Mountain biking trail. One of Nelson’s best playgrounds is a 2 minute walk away. The Brook Stream runs alongside our property and is perfect for cooling down in summer and having fun with the kids.
The nearest beach (Tahunanui) is a 10 minute drive away, with lots more to chose from if you want to drive a little further. The Maitai valley is a five minute drive away with various swimming holes, walks and trails.
Nelson is a lovely seaside town with all amenities including restaurants, great Saturday market, cafes, gardens, galleries, supermarkets, airport and everything else you would need.
Nelson is known as the “sunniest place in NZ” with so many beautiful places to visit close by, including 3 national parks, the Abel Tasman great walk, the Great Taste Cycle Trail and lots of vineyards, all within an hours drive. Endless hiking and biking trails to chose from, beaches, rivers and lakes for swimming.
Nelson is a popular hotspot for tourism and people from all over the world love our region. The area is best visited if you have a car, but we do have a local bus that leaves from the end of our drive to Nelson city centre if needed. Nelson airport is a 10 minute drive away and there is a bus to the airport from the end of our driveway too.

Kiwi/British/Canadian family currently living in Nelson, New Zealand. Love the outdoors and being in nature. Liz (English) is an Environmental Consultant and Matt (Canadian) works in Health & Safety management. We have 2 boys Max (3 yrs) and Oscar (5 months) who are lucky to have British, Canadian and New Zealand citizenship!
We have lived internationally in various places for many years but New Zealand is now our home. We plan to spend June-August 2024 in Canada. Our home in Nelson, New Zealand will be available during that time for non-sim/globe exchanges.
We are also open to exchanges within NZ over the NZ summer period (Dec-April), during Christmas, Easter holidays and long weekends.
We plan to spend 3-4 weeks in July/August 2025 in South Asia. We would be interested in exchanges of a minimum 7 nights in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia or Philippines
