General overview
It is suitable for older people (no stairs and no thresholds).
It is a spacious apartment, with enough space to live and plenty to do. There is a large communal garden in the apartment building.
The space
There is a large living room, divided into a sitting area, a dining area with a large table and a kitchen corner with dishwasher, induction cooking with oven and microwave.
We have a master bedroom with a double bed, a small guest room with 2 single beds (1.80 m long) and a sofa bed for 2 people in the living room.
There is a bathroom with a very nice bath and shower.
Guest access
We live on the first floor, there are stairs or you can take the elevator.
There is a balcony at the front of the house and a large beautiful communal garden on the inside of the building. With plenty of space to sit and enjoy the garden. There is sun in the morning and in the afternoon (when it gets too hot in the sun) there is shade.
Notes
Because we look after our two grandchildren (15 and 12 years old), there are toys in the house (Lego, board games and jigsaw puzzles).
For a rainy day you can watch Netflix (from your smartphone/tablet or laptop with streaming/casting via Chromecast to our TV screen (47 inches) via our Netflix account. And Dutch TV via our NL.ziet account. There is also good WiFi "We don't have regular cable TV anymore. And we don't have a computer for you. You have to bring your laptop, but we have good WiFi."
If we don't bring our bikes, there are 2 electric bikes you can use. If necessary, with child seats. I provide maps with walking, cycling and canoeing routes. But there is also the option to rent bicycles.

Neighbourhood
Our house is located in the middle of the Netherlands, so everything is very easy to visit. It is located on the outskirts of Utrecht, a great old city, with beautiful Dutch churches and museums and canals throughout the city. It is a quiet area, but only a 10-minute walk and 10-minute train ride from the center of a major city. There is a shopping center, with a supermarket, drugstore, bakery, bookstore, restaurants, ten minutes walk from our house. For children there is a nice playground a 3-minute walk away.
You can explore the area by bike (we have 2 electric bicycles with child seats, and 4 normal bicycles), it is only 20 minutes to Haarzuilens Castle (it is one of the oldest castles in the Netherlands), or 10 minutes to the Haarrijnse Plas with beach.
By car you can reach the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug in 20 minutes for a long, peaceful walk. A 40-minute drive to the east and you are in the middle of the Veluwe, the largest nature park in the Netherlands. If you go north there is a large area with "polders", a Dutch landscape with green meadows, ditches and canals, 20 minutes by car to the north there are the lakes of the "Loosdrechtse plassen", where you can enjoy sailing or kayaking.
But if you want to go to other places, for example:
30 minutes to Amsterdam, with its museums and monuments, the zoo with planetarium, the Amsterdam Dungeons,
45 minutes to Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe, you can visit it with a Spido tour over the water, view the Rotterdam skyline from the Euromast, go to Blijdorp, a large zoo with an underwater tunnel,
or 4 hours drive to Paris!
Or you go to the beach, which is only a 2-hour drive.
If you like golfing you can visit:
the golf course in Haarzuilens, only 6 minutes by car: http://en.leadingcourses.com/europe+netherlands+utrecht/golfclub-de-haar/
the golf course in Amelisweerd, only 20 minutes by car. http://www.amelisweerd.nl/
Getting to my home
Our house is located in the middle of the Netherlands, and very easily accessible, you can come by car, there is plenty of parking in front of the door.
Public transport is also very easy: you can take the intercity to Utrecht, and from there take the sprinter to Vleuten station, then just a 7-minute walk to our house. Or you can take a taxi from Utrecht station, or we will pick you up.
Nearest airport
Amsterdam airport is close by (only half an hour by car or 1 hour by public transport) but flying is only necessary if you are coming from outside Europe. In Europe it is better to take the train or car.
Getting around
Our house is about 5 minutes walk from the shopping center, 1 minute walk from a nice playground, 7 minutes from the train station. And then 5 minutes by train to the center of Utrecht. But Amsterdam and Rotterdam are also nearby cities.

We want to travel alone in Europe. Because in the name of the environment we don't want to fly anymore. We love places where we can take beautiful walks in nature. Or take a canoe trip. But also visiting churches and other old buildings. Just a little bit of everything.
We are experienced home exchangers and have exchanged more than 40 times on another site.
"for a holiday we like to go anywhere in Europe, for weekends we like to go to Belgium or the Netherlands,"
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
