Neighbourhood
Kyneton is located in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria, only a one hour drive to the city centre of Melbourne. Kyneton was once a significant resting place for those travelling between Melbourne and the goldfields of Bendigo and Mount Alexander.
Established in 1850, Kyneton has some of the oldest and most beautiful bluestone architecture in Australia. Bluestone was mined in large quantities from the local area and so many of Kyneton's original buildings were constructed from this material.
The area boasts a variety of farmers markets and festivals, making the town and region a popular day trip destination. Nearby are Trentham Falls , Hanging Rock, Black Hill Reserve, Turpin Falls, Kyneton golf course, Kyneton Ridge Winery and the Rollinson Reserve Horse riding facilities.
Kyneton is located well away from any heavily populated areas and light pollution of many Australian cities. It is therefore a destination for astronomers seeking a clear view of the Southern Hemisphere night skies.
