Neighbourhood

Hurlstone Park -------------------- Hurlstone Park is a small, leafy suburb with a friendly community. It has a small town vibe in the middle of one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Much of the suburb including our home retained their original Federation features and are protected under heritage conservation. The local village is 5 minutes from our home and it is well serviced with a train station, cafes, bar, supermarket, butcher, bakery, bottle shop, post office, newsagent, laundromat, barber and pilates studio. The local bar is called HP Bowlo which James co-owns. The local pub, RSL Club and gym are 10 mins away. We are within walking distance of many parks and the Inner West GreenWay (walking/cycling track linking the Cooks River and the Parramatta River at Iron Cove). Inner West -------------- The Inner West is one of the oldest areas of Sydney and has undergone significant gentrification in the last decade. Its location is fairly central and it almost has it all - history, beautiful Victorian and Federation architecture, walking/cycling tracks along the rivers and harbour foreshore, inner harbour baths, parks and sporting clubs/fields, great public transport and proximity to the city, tourist attractions and entertainment precincts. It is also where many migrants made their homes since WWII which results in a melting pot of cultures and foodie haven. Some neighbouring suburbs: Marrickville - Craft brewery capital of Australia. Great variety of Vietnamese and Asian food at affordable prices. Plenty of cafes. Voted top 10 coolest neighbourhood in the world. Newtown/Enmore/Erskineville - Plenty of restaurants, great nightlife. Home to the Enmore theatre. Balmain/Rozelle - Great for a pub crawl and walks on the harbour foreshores. Dawn Fraser Baths. Dulwich Hill/Summer Hill - plenty of cafes with excellent coffee and a variety of dining options. Petersham - Little Portugal. Pastel de Nata and charcoal chicken galore. Ashfield - Shanghainese enclave, endless xiao la bao options. Leichhardt/Haberfield/Five Dock - Little Italy. Iron Cove and the Bay Run. Earlwood - Greek village Sydney ---------- Under 30 mins from Hurlstone Park: - Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge - The Rocks, Barangaroo and Walsh Bay/Hickson Road Wharves - Darling Harbour, Fish Markets, The Star and Jones Bay Wharf - Museums (Australian, Sydney, Maritime, MCA etc) - Art Gallery of NSW and Royal Botanic Garden - Hyde Park, Town Hall and QVB - Tramsheds and Carriageworks - University of Sydney - Surry Hills, Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney Football Stadium - Potts Point, Kings Cross and Woolloomoolloo Wharf 30 to 60 mins from Hurlstone Park: - Bondi Beach and Eastern Beaches (Coogee, Bronte, Tamarama) - Manly and Northern Beaches (Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why) - Centennial Park and Paddington - Taronga Zoo and Lower North Shore - Royal National Park and Cronulla - Sydney Olympic Park

Nearest airport

Sydney Airport is 7 km from Hurlstone Park which is about 15 mins drive.

Getting Around

Driving or Uber to the city centre takes between 20-30 minutes during off peak and up to 45 minutes in peak hour. The train service is being converted to the Metro from late 2024 until some time in 2026. Whilst the conversion is taking place, bus replacements leave from the train station, which is 500 metres from the house and will take you to Sydenham station in 15 minutes to connect to the Metro or heavy rail. The Metro from Sydenham to Central Station takes 5 minutes, 7 minutes to Town Hall and 10 minutes to Martin Place and Barangaroo. The heavy rail (blue line) will take you to Bondi Junction. In 2026, it will take 10 mins to Central station on the Metro. Bus stops are 650 metres from the front door. The 428 goes to Newtown and the City, the 445 to Balmain and the 418/406 goes to surrounding suburbs. You can also catch the light rail to Darling Harbour and the Fish Markets from Dulwich Hill station, which is 1.5 km on foot.
