Neighbourhood
We are located in a town that is on the border of the Achterhoek and Twente region in the Netherlands and a stone-throw away from the German border. This is the place where precious moments become unforgettable memories!
Our region is characterized by a countryside with typical farmhouses and majestic castles and country houses. Like Castle Huis Bergh, Castle Warmelo, Castle house Ruurlo and De Lebbenbrugge property ( a characteristic 15th century farmhouse )
It has many beautiful towns and villages scattered across a varied landscape with hedgerows, woodlands and meadows crossed by streams. Just 15 minutes away, in the Zwillbrocker Venn, an entire colonies of flamingos can even be spotted.
We have picturesque small cities and towns like Bredevoort, Zutphen, Groenlo and Doesburg offering that offer a unique historical and shopping experience. A visit to Bronckhorst, the smallest city in the Netherlands, teaches you more about the rich history of this region. Other towns and cities like Ruurlo, Enschede, Winterwijk, Apeldoorn and Deventer offer great modern and (hands-on)kids museums and activities.
Want to discover for yourself how beautiful our region is?
Climb on our bikes, put on your walking shoes or step into a boat or onto a sup board and take in everything you see. Or
why not go geo-caching in our region, there are some awesome caches nearby.
Wonderful routes and attractions are waiting for you, and at our home we provide all maps and tips needed for a great getaway in the Achterhoek.
There are great fun attractions for adults and kids alike. If you like the water you can hire sup board, canoe or boat to explore the river de Berkel in summer. Don’t forget to bring your fishing gear with you. Our area has some of the nicest places to cast your line.
An amazing subtropical aquatic centre (Marveld) with worlds best aqua slides is just 5 minutes away (Groenlo), while in summer you can enjoy the outdoor pools with slides in Eibergen or Ruurlo. Several natural recreational area's with water activities are in the neighbourhood.
There are great indoor and outdoor kids' / play areas within 15 minutes from our house, like: Hof van Eckberge (including bowling, laser gaming, and small zoo); Sevink Molen, Erve Brooks, Treetop climbing Achterhoek, Megapret, Het Land van Jan Klaassen (the biggest puppet theatre in the Netherlands), Hellendoorn amusementpark and the waarbeek.
You can also go with the kids and youngsters to the Museum Buurtspoorweg to experience the history of the local railways in a vivid and lively way. Enjoy the stunning views while golfing on the 9 or 18 hole short golf course in Eibergen. Visit the labyrinth in Ruurlo, or go E- karting, Led-bowling, Glow Golf in Winterswijk.
Are you a foody? In Eibergen they sell the best chocolate at "de Klok", the best cheese and dairy from Boerenzuivel Claudia, best ice cream from Wuestman (although Talimini in Winterwsijk is our favourite). De Klok and de Lindeboom serve the best pubfood, for a romantic dinner or a coffee with the best scenery you have to go to Muldershuis at the old water mill. And if you want to do a cooking class or cook together with your party under the guidance of one of the best chefs, we recommend going to Koken bij Marloes in Eibergen. Lastly, why Cheese farm Weenink, which is a farm where there is a lot to experience and taste. Children can walk among the animals and can stroke the calves, rabbits and ponies.
From spring till autumn our unique openair theatre in Eibergen hosts children’s shows to pop concerts. A must visit if you are staying in Eibergen!
In august, several flower parade floats are hosted in the neigbouring towns of Lichtenvoorde, Beltrum, Winterswijk en Rekken . Beautiful designed wagons with Dalia flowers parade through the streets
In beltrum (5 minutes away) you can visit Nijhuis Klompen which is the world's biggest clog factory and has been producing and supplying traditional Dutch clogs, souvenirs, wooden tulips since 1938.
Castle Ruurlo is wonderfully located in a rich and varied landscape. One of the most beautiful castles in the Netherlands.
Because we are so close to the border you can be sampling the varied and attractive sights of Germany. Just over the border there is a wide range of things to do and places to see. For example:
Nordhorn Zoo, Castle Bentheim, Wunderland Kalkar, Kettelerhof and irrland, and the themapark Moviepark Oberhausen
Nearest airport
Düsseldorf (Germany) airport is 1 hour 15 minutes by car.
Schiphol airport (Amsterdam) is 1,5 hour by car or 2 hours by train.
Getting around
Eibergen is a small town, you can use our bikes or you can explore it walking.
To go to the major cities in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam) we use the train. The station is just 15 minute away and there is free car parking! Dutch public transport is excellent, and we provide the public transport cards for you (ov-chip).
You are free to use our bikes, we have plenty of options to choose from (both adults and kids bikes).
You can also use our car, which fits 5 people. It is easy to go around the region, and in our region most of the parking is free. We do not recommend taking the car to or into the mayor cities in the Netherlands, as parking is expensive and it is difficult to find a good spot (few and small spots and narrow streets).
