Neighbourhood
Our town is over 200 years old and has a colonial feel!
Our home is located 0.75 miles from center of town which includes bakery/deli, library, wine store and a few restaurants.
Our neighborhood is a suburb of Boston with a rural feel. We live on 2 acres of wooded land. There are a lot of streets to walk around in our neighborhood.
The center of town has 3 main restaurants. Angels Cafe is a spot in town to grab a coffee or a sandwich. Carriage House in the center of town has great pizza and sandwiches. Coriander Bistro is a wonderful Indian restaurant in town. There is also a post office, library and a CVS.
The MBTA commuter rail train station is 1.0 miles from our home so about a 15 minute walk. The commuter train takes 25 minutes to get to Boston and 30 minutes to get to Providence.
Lake Massapoag is 1.7 miles from our home and has two beaches (access permits will be left for visitors). The lake is a 353-acre, natural, spring fed lake located in the center of town. Drive, walk or bike the 1.7 miles to get to Memorial Park Beach. This beach offers a snack shack and a park for little kids. Perfect for swimming, picnics or just relaxing!
For outdoor lovers there are 3 great nearby places: Borderland State Park - five mile drive; Mass Audubon's Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary - 2.5 miles; Trustees of the Reservation Moose Hill Farm - 3 miles. Borderland State Park is an American history and nature preserve with public recreational features. The state park encompasses 1,843 acres surrounding the Ames Mansion, which was built in 1910.
Wards Berry Farm is a family owned farm located 3.4 miles from our home. You can pick your own crop (blueberry, pumpkin, etc. depending on the season) or grab a smoothie or have your children play at the park. It is a wonderful place to visit.
There is 1 nice big park for kids in town called 'Dr. Walter Griffin Playground.' This park has many slides, play structures and fun things for kids!
For tennis and pickleball enthusiasts, there is Deborah Sampson tennis courts. Drop-in Pickleball play is there every day from 8:30-11am when weather permits. No need to sign up - just show up!
Boston has so many sites to see! Highlights are whale watches, MFA, Boston Common, Back Bay, Fenway, Harvard Square (technically in Cambridge, MA but very close to Boston).
Best Nearby (less than 1 hour drive) Ocean Beaches: Wingaersheek Beach (get tickets online), Easton Beach (Newport, RI), Devereux Beach and Crane Beach.
Less than an hour drive to Plymouth Rock, Cape Cod and Newport, RI. Newport is insanely gorgeous with so many places to climb rocks on the ocean shore as well as see many old, huge mansions!
Nearest airport
Boston Logan airport is 26 miles away (30 minute car ride without traffic). Providence Rhode Island is about 36 miles away too!
Getting around
Our town is a suburb and having a car would certainly allow you to take advantage of things more easily but it is not necessary.
You can walk to and from the center of town easily (about a 12 minute, straight walk). To get to Boston or Providence without a car, you can take the MBTA commuter rail. The station is 1 mile from our home (about a 15 minute walk).
You need a car to get to cape cod which is about 45 minutes away.
If you come without a car, we have bicycles to use.
