Neighbourhood
We live in an estate in Cheltenham, which is a regency town in Gloucestershire. Cheltenham is often described as centre for the Cotswolds. Our closest Cotswold town, Winchcombe, is just 15 minutes away by car. Alternatively, Bourton on the Water and Broadway are half an hour away. Other famous Cotswold villages are accessible within 40-45 minutes.
We are within an hour of some excellent shopping areas at Bristol, Birmingham and around 1.5 hours from Cardiff. The historic towns of Bath and Oxford are about an hour away.
Cheltenham is famous for its festivals, educational institutions and horse racing.
Our home is close to a supermarket and you can get to hills and fields in which to walk in 10-15 minutes. Our favourite hill, Cleeve Hill, is the highest point in Gloucestershire and only 10 minutes by car.
There are 2 public swimming pools within 10 minutes drive. Our favourite, Sandford Parks Lido is a fabulous heated outdoor pool.
Nearest airport
Birmingham or Bristol airports are about an hour away.
Gloucestershire Airport could also be an option if you fly on a smaller plane, it's about 25 minutes drive from here.
Getting around
A supermarket within 5 mins walk, also a more local convenience store within 3 mins walk. Buses to town centre at end of street, 10 mins by bus

Happy to chat about things to do in my area and meet for a coffee and chat
We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay in Ali and Timโs home in Cheltenham. It was in a great location for visiting all over the Cotswolds.
Ali left room for us in the kitchen cupboard and fridge and space in drawers so we could settle in easily.
Ali is a great communicator and answered any queries we had also leaving plenty of literature on things to do.
Thanks guys for opening your home to us via PLU.
Ps they have a great outdoor cabana.
Thanks J and J, glad you enjoyed the area. Have a great time in Wales!
Aliโs home is well situated on the outskirts of Cheltenham and within easy reach of several beautiful Cotswold villages which were at the top of our must see wish list. We had a relatively short stay so didnโt get to visit much else in the area unfortunately
Communication with Ali before and during the exchange was great and that made us feel very comfortable with her family during home swap.
It has always been a dream of mine to see the Cotswolds. When Ali kindly and generously offered her home to us for a non-reciprocal exchange, she made my dream come true โค๏ธ. Everything was prepared perfectly. We felt very welcomed. Their home is comfortable and spacious for our family of 4. We stayed during the summer and was able to help water their large veggie garden and potted plants. Ali even left a list of what was ready to pick and eat.
The Cotswolds are so dreamy and one of our favorite places that we explored in England during our 1 month here. It's a must-see. The homes are so cute! There are several small towns and villages scattered throughout a 90-mile long area. You definitely need a car here. Ali's home right is the PERFECT jumping-off point for the Cotswolds.
Cheltenham is also a cute town with some really beautiful buildings. It offers everything you would need - good grocery stores, playgrounds for kids, easy to fuel up your car, shopping, etc. Ali's home is close to it all.
Communication was easy. Ali even gave us some helpful tips for our next destination in London. We interacted on the PLU Facebook group before any arrangements were made and even got to video chat a little during a PLU group Zoom chat.
Thanks for a fab stay! We hope our paths will cross again in the future ๐
We had a great time at Ali and Tim's home. It's not far to the centre of Cheltenham and a good base for exploring the Cotswolds. There's a brilliant park about 15 minutes walk away with a fantastic playground, great for our kids. Food shops are very close by. Their home is comfortable and homely with a nice enclosed back garden and a lovely cabin so you can eat in the garden but undercover.
We didnโt get to meet Ali and her lovely family till after the exchange was completed as we were overseas . They are a really nice family who left our holiday home in excellent condition and we wouldnโt hesitate to host them again if they come back to NZ sometime in the future.
We realised our reciprocal visit to Aliโs house was not going to happen in the foreseeable future so Ali very kindly agreed to let my niece and her son use her house instead of us and this is Lisa's review:
Weโve thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend in your lovely home. To find a welcome basket complete with dog treats was absolutely fab. Your home is very welcoming clean and comfortable with everything you could need as a guest. We canโt thank you enough, itโs been a beautiful hot weekend spent in a lovely home, conveniently located.
Ali and Tim are wonderful exchange partners. We had several video calls before the exchange and spoke back and forward on message. The house was just as we had left it and the cats were well looked after ๐ We were left a lovely thank you card and gift on departure which is very much appreciated ๐ I would highly recommend an exchange with Ali and Tim!
Thanks Emma and Rico, we have appreciated your hospitality:)
Ali and Jae were wonderful guests- communication was brilliant and they did a wonderful job of looking after our hens. We returned home to a meticulously clean house. There were a couple of things missing from our manual and Ali was so patient about these details. I would highly recommend an exchange with Ali and her family!
Thankyou so much for accomodating us at quite short notice. We really enjoyed staying at your lovely home and it made it so much easier to have a base near Jae's work experience.
Lovely to meet Ali, Tim, Jae and Charlie the dog. They stayed for a week on a globe exchange and left our home clean and tidy.
Excellent communication and appreciated Jae watering my plants too!!
Ali, Tim and J were great guests in our home. We were very happy and comfortable with them in our home
Ali and her family took great care of home whilst we were away.
Communication before, during and after was excellent and really felt like our home was being taken care of.
We would highly recommend Ali and her family as guests and would welcome them back any time ๐
Thanks for your generosity Katie! I hope your journey home went to plan and your luggage was able to come too?
Ali and her family were our first guests at Sunrise Cottage. Ali was lovely and helped me navigate the process once we had agreed the exchange. We were in touch before, during and after they stayed at the cottage. Always polite and friendly. Not sure what else we can write because this is the first time we are leaving feedback for a fellow PLUers but what we'll say is that if you are planning to have Ali as a guest, go ahead and you won't regret it!
Ali and her family were the perfect guests. Great communication and updates throughout the process. House left sparkling clean and everything was well cared for,
Lovely gift and thank you card which was really appreciated.
Recommended as exchange partners and plan to do a simultaneous exchange with them next time.
Communication with Ali was great and we were in touch about any queries prior to and during our stay. They kindly looked after our garden for us (watering was needed) and left our home clean and tidy as they had found it.
We had Ali and her lovely family stay in our holiday home at Lake Taupo for a few days. They were great guests and left our home very clean and tidy. We wouldnโt hesitate to let them stay again if they ever venture this far again โค๏ธ
Emma and Rico kindly let Tim and Leo stay at their comfortable home for the weekend. The cats warmed to them and got very friendly by the end of the weekend. The house is very close to supermarkets and an outlet centre. It was perfect for visiting our relatives in Dorset.
Thanks for hosting us, and for the great communication.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a globe at Shelley and Martin's home. It's a gorgeous farmhouse with lots of land. Less than an hour from ours, but a complete change of scenery and a chance to rest. We enjoyed caring for the chickens, using the hot tub and appreciated the views of fields and sky. We even saw a deer ๐ฆ. We loved stargazing, seeing the aurora and watching the meteor shower.
There are lots of interesting things to do in the area, we particularly enjoyed a trip to Kinver Edge.
There are 2 shops just up the lane so super convenient and it was less than 10 minutes to a lidl and not much further into Worcester itself.
Thanks so much for having us!
Ali and Jae
Jacquie and James were great guests. They looked after our home and garden whilst we were overseas, left it clean and tidy and even made our bed for us, such a blessing after a late evening arrival home!
Liz and Max helped us out when we needed (at quite short notice), a base whilst our teen sat their exams in Hampshire. They willingly accepted a globe and we've just got back from a week's stay.
We're so grateful, it was a great base for our time away. Close to the exam centre, but the location was great for exploring the area too. I'm from Southampton so we were able to visit some of the places I remembered. There are some nice coastal areas to visit and interesting places in Southampton and Portsmouth too.
Locally to the house there is a network of tree-lined footpaths which take you to a local shop, park and to the train station and bus stop which makes a very pleasant wander, and useful shade on a warm day.
The house and garden are lovely, comfy beds, spacious and everything we needed. WiFi was good and I was able to remote work. We also appreciated some food and drink they left for us.
Liz communicated well and it was lovely to meet her and Max a couple of times.
We also really appreciate them letting us bring our dog, Charlie with us.
Thanks Liz and Max for a lovely stay and we wish you well on your future travels in Vietnam!
Thankyou Deb and Graheme for letting us stay in your home. We don't often travel North so it was great to experience some of Yorkshire. We enjoyed an afternoon at the beach, Filey, exploring the centre of York and a wander in the woods near the racecourse, as well as local walks with Charlie. 3 nights wasn't long enough to explore everything but we are grateful for a taster.
Your home is light and airy with comfortable beds and all that we needed for the weekend. We enjoyed looking out at your lovely back garden and Charlie loved running around and exploring it. We didn't see the foxes, but we did seea duck and enjoyed the many little birds that came to the feeders.
Thanks again for a lovely break, Ali, Tim and J
Deb communicated well before, during and after the exchange and we felt comfortable leaving our home and our plants in their care. Her and Graheme left our home clean and tidy and we would definitely recommend them as exchange partners.
Wow! We loved staying at Katie and Simon's home. Really large and comfortable home. They were generous to trust us with staying there over a long period whilst they were in Australia and were happy for us to bring our kids, my parents and the dog which meant we could all stay together over the Easter weekend. We were so grateful for this as it meant everyone had their own room and we weren't on top of each other. Their home is in a great location for the peak district, and we has a wonderful family day at Alton Towers as well as several days spent swimming at the local pool and walking around the village. Great communication. Thanks so much for letting us stay!
Cheryl and her family looked after our home and garden and communicated well before and during the exchange. I'm glad they were able to enjoy our local area as much as we enjoyed theirs.
Communication with Tina and Matthew was easy, even sending us photos of our plant babies :) They looked after our home and garden well, so well that our cleaner commented on how clean it was!
Thanks guys, all the best on the rest of your trip!
We loved our stay at Cheryl and Simon's flat. It was a great location for exploring the local area.
There is lots to do in Torquay (less than 10 mins drive) and with a bus stop right outside, it's perfect for those needing to use public transport. From the house, it is a short walk to Anstey's Cove or to Babbacombe Beach. From Babbacombe we walked to Oddicombe Beach and then caught the cliff railway up again.
Our dog was very happy in the flat, and made use of the small fenced area outside the door.
The area is quite hilly and there are lots of steps up or down to the house, so perfect for active people, but older folk might struggle.
The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to self cater during our stay. The flat was a good size for 4 of us and the dog, there was plenty of space for a 5th person to stay on a sofa bed.
Thanks Cheryl and Simon for having us, and we look forward to hosting you in the Autumn.
We loved our stay at Fred's place. The location is very rural so perfect if you enjoy peace and quiet and being in the countryside. This is the place where it's dark enough to see the stars and peaceful enough to hear the birds sing!
There are walks from the door which was perfect for our dog. He gets a bit anxious but loved walks through the fields and paddling in the brook. We found 2 secure dog fields not far away so he could enjoy some off lead playtime.
The cottage has a lovely enclosed front and rear garden which will be lovely to sit out in during warmer months.
Inside is very spacious, good size rooms yet still very cosy and charming.
We appreciated Fred's flexability in allowing our student age children to visit and stay a few nights.
Wifi is good at the cottage, it coped well with my work and my kid's studying calls. A really great base for remote working.
Thank you Fred for letting us stay, we really enjoyed ourselves.
Debbie and Mark's home is very homely and a great place for a family holiday. We felt very relaxed there, as did our dog. He is usually very anxious, but we noticed a big improvement in his behaviour, he especially enjoyed all the beach walks which are easy to access from the house, and has made friends with the sea :) We enjoyed borrowing the bikes for a few local bike rides and had some great trips to Mudeford where we were able to hire kayaks and paddle boards. Sunset at Hengistbury Head was special. We even had a day trip on the Isle of Wight which we all enjoyed. 20 minutes drive from the house and we were at the ferry. This is a great base for exploring Dorset and Hampshire. We would have loved to have spent more time in the New Forest, maybe next time! Thankyou Debbie and Mark for letting us use your home for a much needed break, it was a great exchange.
Hannah and Kelvin's home is a great base for exploring The Gower. It's spacious and well equipped, with plenty of space for a family. We were very grateful to be able to bring our dog and he enjoyed their secure garden. Communication with Hannah was easy and she was very helpful providing information for trips and local activities. We enjoyed some day trips to local beaches and The Mumbles. Our favourite was Threecliffs Bay and my husband and son enjoyed climbing up Pen-y-Fan (a mountain in the Brecon Beacons) which is also accessible from Hannah's house
Hannah and Kelvin and their boys looked after our home really well. They took great care of our plants. I have no concerns about recomending them.
Katherine and Trevor's niece Lisa stayed in our home as part of our exchange. It went really well and we would be very happy to exchange again should the opportunity arise.
Katherine and Trevor's home is well equipped and in a great base for exploring the area. Katherine communicated well before and during the exchange and gave us great tips for things to do. We particularly enjoyed a day out at Rotura and bathing in a hot pool at Taupo. Huka Falls is nearby. There are great views from the balcony on a clear day, and we appreciated the log fire in the cold evenings. Thankyou for a great stay!
Katherine and Trevor's niece, Lisa and her son came to stay at my home over the August bank holiday weekend. They brought their dogs. Lisa communicated well before, during and after the exchange and looked after our home. All went well and we would have no concerns about exchanging with them again in the future.
