General Overview
Walk to city shops, cafes bars & theatres in minutes, short ride to the coast, countryside & lakes.
Come and enjoy staying in Lancaster’s historic conservation area and enjoy this quiet, elegant area, whilst being close to railways and bus stations, moments from Lancaster’s bustling centre, and yet have the rich local countryside, dramatic coastline and southern Lake District just a short ride away
Lancaster is well connected and Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London are all easily accessible for guests missing the ‘big’ city scene!.
The Space
Our spacious flat sits in a historic building but has all the modern comforts you’d expect to feel at home. The place works well for singles, couples, colleagues or friends who are looking to be in a quiet peaceful neighbourhood (and who are similarly peaceful and respectful - this is the wrong place if you plan to party!) whether visiting Lancaster for business, family catch-ups, or a holiday.

You’ll enjoy sole use of the entire flat, including:
- Two bedrooms: full access to a large comfortable double bedroom ( bed size is european double - 140cm x200) , and a second small room with a narrow but full length single bed;
- Well equipped kitchen (plus cooking basics - oil, salt, pepper, spices etc) that also has informal dining space for two;
- Spacious lounge with comfy seating, and a dining space;
- bathroom: with bath with shower (over), toilet.
All bedding is provided.

The flat is accessed via a steep cobbled path, and is on the first floor (two short flights of stairs)
Notes
Because we’re in the historic castle district, parking is at a premium - there are some good options if you plan ahead, we can arrange a pass for on-street parking, and I can advise. All the city is accessible as it’s pretty compact, and we’re perfectly placed for using the train or buses.

Neighbourhood
Lancaster is a small city, with a great heritage! Lots of history to explore, excellent pubs and good restaurants. Cafes abound and we have a thriving music, theatre and arts scene. There’s a street market twice weekly, and supermarkets are a five minute walk. People visit to see Lancaster, and it’s castle, but also to explore the stunning countryside that surrounds the area - coast, moorland, woodlands, limestone pavements, all within a 20 minute drive, and the southern Lake District just a 40minutes away.
Getting to my home
Lancaster is easily reached by train, linking easily and swiftly with Manchester, Liverpool, London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow - and we are just a five-ten minute walk from the railway station.
By car - Lancaster is easily accessed from the M6 with junctions at the North and South of the city.
Nearest airport
Manchester Airport - reached by car or train in around 80-90mins.
Getting Around
Lancaster itself is very walkable - no car required. Accessing the surrounding countryside is also possible using trains/buses, but a car opens more opportunities to reach some of the stunning surrounding open spaces and picturesque towns and villages.
We’re very conveniently placed for the railway station, the bus station and the M6! Manchester is an hour by train, 80mins by car. Edinburgh and Glasgow are both reached in 2 hours by train, and London is around 2.5 hours.

We stayed at Cathy and Dave's lovely flat in July 2022 and enjoyed every minute of it. The flat is situated in a great location in the historic centre of Lancaster with views of the castle and walking distance from everything in town. Cathy provided all the basics but went way beyind that with fresh strawberries, eggs, a bottle of wine and even freshly baked bread on our arrival. We felt instantly at home and happy with all the local information, a good library of books, games and a comfortable bed. We enjoyed a few long walks in the local area when the sun shined and Cathy also recommended some wonderful places to eat, we even enjoyed lunch with Cathy and Dave whoch was a great way to get to know them better and swap some travel stories. Highly recommended!
We loved our stay in Lancaster, a place we've never visited before and which has much to offer. The flat is very well situated in front of the castle and close to excellent transport links, both for local and longer journeys. All the amenities of the town centre are at your doorstep, but it is also very quiet at nights. We particularly enjoyed walking on the cycle paths and by the coast. Other highlights were the live music at the Tap Room on Saturday night and excellent meals at Quite Simply French (Sunday special) and The Mad Hunter. The flat itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Cathy was very accommodating when we decided to stay an extra night due to train cancellations. The communications went very smoothly.
I was delighted to welcome Cathy & her husband for a short Pluto stay. We'd already met when I hosted her for a hospitality stay, so communication was swift & easy at all times
They left our home spick & span & even managed to launder some towels before leaving. Thank you both for that.
We'll no doubt enjoy their gift of IKEA mulled wine & biscuits over the festive season & look forward to welcoming them back any time
Cathy was the perfect guest for the few nights she spent in our home.
As she was visiting family close by, she was out & about most of the time, but we had some great chats over breakfast!

Rose’s home is both comfortable and stylish and she makes you feel welcomed straight away. We enjoyed a brief but perfect stay in return for our Pluto and so loved that the house is ideally placed for visiting our daughter as well as getting around in and out of town. If you’ve a car Edinburgh can be a bit of a challenge, but again, Rose’s home worked perfectly as there was on-street parking right by the house. Really grateful for Rose’s kindness and that she and her husband Graeme share their beautiful home.
I was so grateful when Rose offered me her spare room for a short hospitality stay (a ten minute walk from my daughter and new grandson!) and she really is a kind and thoughtful host offering exemplary hospitality indeed! Rose is interesting and friendly and it was a pleasure to meet her. Her home itself? Utterly lovely! It’s super comfortable, stylish and spacious, clean and very well situated for getting in and out of town. I was made to feel very welcome. Fanny Lena’s Edinburgh flat is a fabulous place to be based and we felt really fortunate to be entrusted with what is clearly a treasured and special family home. It is airy, spacious, and well equipped and is in one of the most popular areas in the city with superb access to shops, restaurants, cafés and bars, markets, beautiful walks, and well placed to stroll into the city centre, the art galleries, or the botanic gardens. We felt comfortable, welcomed - and thoroughly entertained by their charming and playful cat Nina! It was beautifully clean and lots of thought and preparation had gone into making our stay go smoothly, (and Fanny Lena had made sure we had plenty of clear space for our clothes etc.) Most importantly we were able to make daily visits to our daughter in Leith and our first grandchild - born just days beforehand! Edinburgh public transport is excellent and Stockbridge well served by buses. (It’s worth noting that having a car as a visitor in central Edinburgh is challenging with regards to parking - in fact we left ours out of the area and relied on the buses.)
We’ll never forget our stay and will be always grateful for the opportunity to be ‘pop-round’ supporters for our daughter and to get to know our new grandson in those special, early days.

We absolutely loved our stay in Ana’s beautiful home - a comfortable, modern flat with everything we could need, it was ideally placed for our trip, timed to be around for our daughter’s wedding and so we could spend a little time in the run-up, and afterwards. What a privilege it was to be entrusted with Hollie and Tom’s beautiful home…and their two friendly cats! The villa is comfortable, superbly equipped, clean and stylish, and best of all it has a spectacular view of the surrounding area, constant sounds of the distantly roaring sea (two separate bays visible from the garden) and they’re surrounded by high trees and jungle so you get to watch the antics of troupes of monkeys, and countless birds. Getting there in bad weather (torrential rain as you can only know in the tropics!) was a challenge since we’d only hired a saloon car but after some adventure we made it. We learned how to read the weather, anticipating the heavy deluges, and being sure to be back ‘home’ before them, so I’d say during dry season, a car is fine, or if you plan your day to accommodate trips out dodging the downpours on the ‘shoulder’ season, an ordinary car also is possible, but outside that, definitely a high clearance, 4-wheel drive would be more sensible.
We absolutely loved our time there - a mix of chilling on the terrace, swimming in the fabulous pool, watching wildlife, walking, taking car trips to walk the beaches at Zancudo (and have a fine lunch!) or even walking to the beach at Langustino. After ten days we were rested, fitter, braver (at driving, dealing with wild weather and wildlife!) and so sad to leave. The rest of our trip through Costa Rica was fantastic and we’d love to go back to this beautiful country, but our very best experience was at Casazenn. We’ll never forget it.
Hollie and Tom were excellent hosts in that they made themselves available via zoom to help us prepare for our trip, and Tom was here to meet us when we arrived. They alway felt approachable and contactable before and during our stay. It was a pleasure to get to know them and we are thrilled to have made such a fabulous exchange.

Lancaster people loved the winter skating rink and huge observation wheel in the weeks before Christmas - here’s a great view of Dalton Square and the town hall.
Morecambe, our neighbouring town, offers stunning views out across the bay.

Lovely Arnside - one of our favourite places to take a walk and have a picnic (or a pub meal!) is a 20-30minute drive, or a short train ride.
