General overview

Our 3rd floor appartment is newly built this year. It is gasless, isolated, ventilated, solar powered and has a heat pump. It is situated perfectly between the Gouda and Moordecht. Which means you are close to the city (and other cities) but also close to nature. When you walk down the street you are in the polder! Best of both worlds.

The space

Our 71m2 home is not very big, but has everything you need to be comfortable during your stay here. When entering the house, you can find the bathroom on your right and a seperate toilet on your right. Walking down the hall you will find the main bedroom with a 160x200 bed (pictures will follow soon). Followed by my sons bedroom with a 90x200 bed and a 90X200 bed underneath if needed (it would leave little room though for a long stay). My sons bedroom had a smart TV set up. There are boys toys here like Playmobil, soldiers and knights. Lastly, you will find the bright and light living area. There is a smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube on it, and has a Wii U connected to it. There are lots of board games (even some English ones) for you to use. The living room has an open kitchen with microwave, oven, blender, coffeemaker, water boiler, airfryer and sandwich iron which are all available for you to use. You will find the fridge and freezer with enough food for you to start, so you don't have to concern yourself with finding somewhere to eat and you can get settled first. From the living room/dining area you can access the balcony which has direct sun all morning until mid afternoon and has a lovely view. If you love birds you will love spending time here :). Regular residents include: ducks, cormorants, coots, moorhens, grebes, gulls, geese, herons, kestrels, jackdaws, wagtails, tits and buzzards. Please note: the walls are still very empty since we are still settling in into the home :)

Guest access

You have access to the whole house. Everything is level floor. The appartment is on the 3rd floor and accesible by elevator or stairs.

Notes

Car exhange is possible something we can discuss. You can also use our bikes. There is a general indoor bike shed where you can park. Important to know: there are pets in the house. One cat and two bunnies It would be great if they can be taken care of while you stay in our home. If you would like to stay elsewhere overnight (for example when taking a longer trip from Gouda) my friend can step in to do the care taking for you. If you have pets, we are happy to take care of them as well. Makes us miss our own less :).

Neighbourhood

The house is located on the outskirts of Gouda. Since the neighboorhoud is still being developed you can only find basic amenities here. To do more shopping you need to go into town or go to Waddinxveen shopping area. You can bike there or go by car. Waddinxveen has free parking. There is a busstop around the cornor which will take you itno the center of Gouda in 10 minutes. The last stop is at the bus and railwaystation. From here you can make trips around the country or even outside the Netherlands. When you walk down the street you can find the GroenBlauwe zone. An area to go biking, hiking, fishing or let the kids play in the playground. Within 5 minutes you can find yourself in the middle of the polders. You can also find a bird viewing tower there. Gouda itself is a great historical city with a lot to explore. Such as the town hall and St. Jan church (15th century). There are several city tours available to explore Gouda and get interesting background information. There is a local indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a city beach, museums, indoor playgrounds, cinema, lots of restaurants and shops. For more information: https://welcometogouda.com/. Gouda is great at organizing events. In summer there is live music and food festivals for example. Every Thursday cheese market and Saturday regular market. In autumn and winter there are several events as well. Like Zotte Zaterdag in October (medieval festival). Or in December and January an ice skating-rink. Last year one was made in a church! The area in and around Gouda is great for biking, but also for great walks and water sports. Reeuwijk for example is a nearby village which has water to surf or swim. Or just go there for a walk or bike ride. If you want the go to the sea side there are several options nearby as well.

Getting to my home

My home is about a 10 minute busride from the train and bus station, from which you have easy access to all the large trainstations nearby (Utrecht, Rotterdam, the Hague and Amsterdam). Our home is situated close to the highway. Parking is not a problem since there are a lot of free parking spaces included with the building.

Nearest airport

Schiphol Airport or Rotterdam Airport are closest, but Schiphol is easier to travel to and from by public transportation to my home.

Getting around

In and around Gouda everything is done by bike easily, but there are a lot of buses also that will take you everywhere you need. If you want to explore outside of Gouda you can use public transport or if agreed upon use my car. There is a great railway and subway network around the bigger cities and Gouda is perfectly located in the center of them. This means that you can get to bigger cities by train easily. For example Rotterdam 20 minutes (three pictures included), The Hague 25 minutes, Utrecht 25 minutes, Amsterdam 55 minutes, Leiden 45 minutes, Delft 45 minutes. Of course the Netherlands isn't that big so you can go to any city you like and make a day trip. You can even travel outside the Netherlands and explore other parts of Europe. For example Belgium (Antwerp 1,5 hours or Brussels 2,5 hours) by train if you like. Or what about Paris? From Rotterdam the Thalys will take you there in just 2,5 hours. But also Germany is accessible (Cologne or Dusseldorf 3 hours). And if you want to go a little further. London is 4 hours by direct train from Rotterdam :). Schiphol Airport is one hour by train away (change trains once in Utrecht). Rotterdam Airport is 45 minutes away (one train and one bus). So lots to do and easy to get to even without a car. I will make sure I will leave you with all the details you need and pick out some of the highlights that might be of interest to you.

I am a vet tech, writer and wilflife rehabber. In my spare time (if I have any) I take bike rides, swim, hike, go birding and listen to a lot of music. My son is a real teenager and is in his second year of high school. He loves gaming and animals. We both love nature, outdoors and historical sites. My ultimate travel goal is to visit every state in the US (I know...very long term goal haha). My son's travel goal is to see as many animals in the wild as he can and has his mind set to South Africa :). Within Europe we are open to anything but prefer locations with easy access or driving distance.
