Our 3rd floor appartment is newly built this year. It is gasless, isolated, ventilated, solar powered and has a heat pump.
It is situated perfectly between the Gouda and Moordecht. Which means you are close to the city (and other cities) but also close to nature. When you walk down the street you are in the polder! Best of both worlds.
The space
Our 71m2 home is not very big, but has everything you need to be comfortable during your stay here. When entering the house, you can find the bathroom on your right and a seperate toilet on your right.
Walking down the hall you will find the main bedroom with a 160x200 bed (pictures will follow soon). Followed by my sons bedroom with a 90x200 bed and a 90X200 bed underneath if needed (it would leave little room though for a long stay). My sons bedroom had a smart TV set up. There are boys toys here like Playmobil, soldiers and knights.
Lastly, you will find the bright and light living area. There is a smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube on it, and has a Wii U connected to it. There are lots of board games (even some English ones) for you to use.
The living room has an open kitchen with microwave, oven, blender, coffeemaker, water boiler, airfryer and sandwich iron which are all available for you to use. You will find the fridge and freezer with enough food for you to start, so you don't have to concern yourself with finding somewhere to eat and you can get settled first.
From the living room/dining area you can access the balcony which has direct sun all morning until mid afternoon and has a lovely view. If you love birds you will love spending time here :). Regular residents include: ducks, cormorants, coots, moorhens, grebes, gulls, geese, herons, kestrels, jackdaws, wagtails, tits and buzzards.
Please note: the walls are still very empty since we are still settling in into the home :)
Guest access
You have access to the whole house. Everything is level floor. The appartment is on the 3rd floor and accesible by elevator or stairs.
Notes
Car exhange is possible something we can discuss. You can also use our bikes. There is a general indoor bike shed where you can park.
Important to know: there are pets in the house. One cat and two bunnies It would be great if they can be taken care of while you stay in our home.
If you would like to stay elsewhere overnight (for example when taking a longer trip from Gouda) my friend can step in to do the care taking for you.
If you have pets, we are happy to take care of them as well. Makes us miss our own less :).

Neighbourhood
The house is located on the outskirts of Gouda. Since the neighboorhoud is still being developed you can only find basic amenities here. To do more shopping you need to go into town or go to Waddinxveen shopping area. You can bike there or go by car. Waddinxveen has free parking.
There is a busstop around the cornor which will take you itno the center of Gouda in 10 minutes. The last stop is at the bus and railwaystation. From here you can make trips around the country or even outside the Netherlands.
When you walk down the street you can find the GroenBlauwe zone. An area to go biking, hiking, fishing or let the kids play in the playground. Within 5 minutes you can find yourself in the middle of the polders. You can also find a bird viewing tower there.
Gouda itself is a great historical city with a lot to explore. Such as the town hall and St. Jan church (15th century). There are several city tours available to explore Gouda and get interesting background information. There is a local indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a city beach, museums, indoor playgrounds, cinema, lots of restaurants and shops. For more information: https://welcometogouda.com/.
Gouda is great at organizing events. In summer there is live music and food festivals for example. Every Thursday cheese market and Saturday regular market. In autumn and winter there are several events as well. Like Zotte Zaterdag in October (medieval festival). Or in December and January an ice skating-rink. Last year one was made in a church!
The area in and around Gouda is great for biking, but also for great walks and water sports. Reeuwijk for example is a nearby village which has water to surf or swim. Or just go there for a walk or bike ride. If you want the go to the sea side there are several options nearby as well.
Getting to my home
My home is about a 10 minute busride from the train and bus station, from which you have easy access to all the large trainstations nearby (Utrecht, Rotterdam, the Hague and Amsterdam).
Our home is situated close to the highway. Parking is not a problem since there are a lot of free parking spaces included with the building.
Nearest airport
Schiphol Airport or Rotterdam Airport are closest, but Schiphol is easier to travel to and from by public transportation to my home.
Getting around
In and around Gouda everything is done by bike easily, but there are a lot of buses also that will take you everywhere you need. If you want to explore outside of Gouda you can use public transport or if agreed upon use my car. There is a great railway and subway network around the bigger cities and Gouda is perfectly located in the center of them.
This means that you can get to bigger cities by train easily. For example Rotterdam 20 minutes (three pictures included), The Hague 25 minutes, Utrecht 25 minutes, Amsterdam 55 minutes, Leiden 45 minutes, Delft 45 minutes. Of course the Netherlands isn't that big so you can go to any city you like and make a day trip.
You can even travel outside the Netherlands and explore other parts of Europe. For example Belgium (Antwerp 1,5 hours or Brussels 2,5 hours) by train if you like. Or what about Paris? From Rotterdam the Thalys will take you there in just 2,5 hours. But also Germany is accessible (Cologne or Dusseldorf 3 hours). And if you want to go a little further. London is 4 hours by direct train from Rotterdam :).
Schiphol Airport is one hour by train away (change trains once in Utrecht). Rotterdam Airport is 45 minutes away (one train and one bus).
So lots to do and easy to get to even without a car. I will make sure I will leave you with all the details you need and pick out some of the highlights that might be of interest to you.

City tour, dinner and a chat, cup of coffee. Feel free to reach out for anything you need!
We spent a beautiful autumn week in Gouda. Lisette‘s cozy and typical dutch home is right in the center of the city with shops and restaurants literally just around the corner.
The train station is only a short walk away so we went to Utrecht, Den Haag and Leiden by train (about 30 min). There is so much to see and do, don’t miss the the beautiful Sint Janskerk with the amazing stained glass windows.
In 2022 Gouda will celebrating its 750 anniversary, so what are you waiting for? :)
Lisette's home is centrally located, very close to the old town and the canals. It's very cozy and perfect size, it has all what you need for holiday. As we worked remotely, it was very handy to be able to walk around the old town or grab lunch in just few minutes. It's also just a few minutes walk from the train station, from where there are frequent trains to Utrecht and Rotterdam. It's surrounded by various shops, cafes and restaurants so there is plenty of choice if you want to go out and enjoy yourself.
Lisette and Aaron were great hosts, contact with Lisette was very good and fast, she also prepared all information for us and sent them in advance via email and they left a lovely present for us with goodies from their town. It was nice to meet them at the end of our stay and we were really impressed how polite and well behaved Aaron was.
And the best of all - bunnies. Bea and Bowie were definitely the highlight of this trip. Forget the cheese, Utrecht or romantic canals - bunnies were the best! We loved them immediately, they were such cute little animals. Taking care of Lisette's animals was very easy and it was bringing a lot of joy :)
We truly hope that we will be able to come back to Lisette's home one day, as we loved both Gouda and Bunnies with our whole heart :) it was a pleasure to be there and we are looking forward for Lisette and Aaron to come to Warsaw.
If youre looking for a central place in Gouda this is it. Welling distance from the station and youre in the niddle of the center without any noise problems.
Lissete and Aaron' s place is lovely with a great roof terras. It is a really old/ originele style house wich i mean in a cool way! I loved to have some furry Friends since i don' t have any.
Lisette looked after our home very well. We returned to a perfectly clean house and some lovely gifts. I would recommend Lisette as a guest and would be happy for her to stay in our house again.
Lisette was an absolute pleasure to exchange with. She was clear in her communications and was easily accessible.
She left the place spotless and brought us a treat from Holland which was a pleasant surprise.
We would have no hesitation recommending Lisette.
It was wonderful to see Lisette again, and to meet her son Aaron on this visit. They stayed with me for a few nights on a hospitality exchange, before continuing to the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed a few walks in the red rocks of Sedona and visited two state parks. I enjoy their company immensely and they are always welcome to come back!
We totally recommend exchanging with Lisette and Aaron. Their nice home is centrally located to explore a beautiful and interesting part of the Netherlands.
They left our apartment neat and tidy and Lisette went above and beyond and had already washed the towels before we came home!
Though we didn’t have the chance to meet we enjoyed staying in touch during our exchange and kept each other posted through WhatsApp.
All the best and maybe we meet in the future! :)
It was a pleasure to have Lisette and her son to be our guests. Easy to communicate. They left our home clean and neat.
Great guests and highly recommended.
Lisette and Aaron are always welcome in mine place :)
Lovely guests, with good comminication and they leave youre place spotless.
Again always welcome!
Lisette and Aaron were great guest. Easy to communiciat with and they left mine place in perfect condition :)
Lisette was a joy to host in my home and I welcome her back any time. I was very happy to spend time and get to know her. A truly lovely person.
Lisette was the perfect guest! She is even more wonderful and insightful in person. I was so blessed to have met her and be able to spend time with her. Her friendliness and generosity was incredible thoughtful and appreciated. In addition, her visit inspired me to find out more about my own state, too! I hope to be able to see her in the Netherlands in the future!!
Aaron and I had a wonderful stay had Bruce and Sarah's house. The house is lovely, clean and comfortable. And very central located in Stirling. Stirling itself is conveniently located near amazing sights and things to do.
Bruce and Sarah are very easy to communicate with and left perfect instructions which made our stay very easy. They left us some goodies which we very much appreciated.
I would highly recommend an exchange with them!
I was welcomed in Trevor and Corey's house for two weeks and I had a lovely time. The house is clean and very comfortable. Situated between the two major cities which makes nothing really far. If you want to explore more of the Eastvalley this is the place to be. Close to the lakes to enjoy the desert waters. Close to Tucson to experience the south. Or go to Sedona and enjoy the redrocks. Highly recommend exchanging here!
We were kindly hosted for a few nights at Karen's. She is really the best host. She took us to see some sights in the area and had a lovely dinner together. Her home is very comfortabel and the view is simply amazing. Recommend doing an exchange with her and can't wait to hang out with her again.
You know you are welcome any time.
We had a lovely stay at Jana and Matthias' home. The appartement is very comfortabel and bright. Lots of info available to explore the surrounding area. We felt home right away.
We highly recommend a visit to Wernigerode or go an a hike. The town of Braunschweig of course. We feel like we havent even scratched the surface yet of how much there is too see and do.
A lovely home in a lovely area with the best hosts anyone could ask for ❤
Jana and Matthias were perfect guests. Our home was clean and tidy and they even left a little surprise for Aaron which he loved.
We had a wonderful time in Luxembourg. The home has easy access to the free public transportation network which is great. Within 10 minutes you're in Luxembourg city.
There are great hiking trails all over the country with of course the Mullertal as a highlight. Highly recommend exploring Beaufort and Vianden castles too. Honestly a week isn't enough to explore all the gems Luxembourg has to offer.
The appartment was very cozy and comfortable. Lots of space and great beds. Our host Jean-Luc left us a wonderful gift basket and showed us around to make sure we could find our way with everything.
I would highly recommend exchanging with them if you get the chance.
Thank you Lisette!
Natalia and Cian stayed in our home when we were on another exchange with another PLU member. We arranged everything very last minute, but communication was perfect!
They took perfectly amazing care of our fur babies and were completely in love with our bunnies. I could tell how much love they have for them and how precious they treated them.
And if that weren't enough, they even got a birthday present for Aaron. We were blown away with their kindness.
Luckily we got to meet just before they left. They are wonderful people and hope we get to meet again. Natalia and Cian are amazing guest and they are welcome back anytime!
We had yet another amazing time at Marisse's place. Her appartment is very comfortable and situated perfectly to make local daytrips. This time we visited IJmuiden to explore WWII bunkers, hiked in the Amsterdamse Waterleiding Duinen, spend time at the beach and hiked in the Kennemerduinen.
Marisse even had a birthday surprise ready for Aaron. Which was a very nice surprise. He loved it.
Highly recommend exchanging with Marisse. She is a wonderful person and the location is wonderful as well.
Marisse's home is easy to get to and located in a lovely quiet neighbourhood. The appartement is very comfortabele. We loved having breakfast on the balcony and watching the birds.
Haarlem is a lovely town and the dunes are amazing to explore. Both on bike or on foot. The beach is closeby and easy to reach.
We loved our stay and would definitely come back to explore more.
Marisse was a great guest. My home was left perfectly and my furry friends were happy and well looked after
Ze bleven bij ons gedurende kerst 2019 en waren perfecte gasten. Alles was super netjes achter gelaten en er lag bovendien een leuke verrassing voor zoonlief. Jullie zijn als het weer kan altijd welkom terug.
I stayed at Karen's when I was travelling through Arizona and had the best time. She is a wonderful host with a lot of knowledge about the area. She can point you to the best places to visit and hike.
Her home is very spacious and comfortable and will provide you with everything you need. The mountains views are spectacular!
I would highly recommend exchanging with her. You will not regret it :)
Can't wait to see you again! You are welcome in my home any time.
Brigit is the best host one can even dream about She is very kind and generous and makes sure your stay is perfect. I was lucky enough to spend some time with her and feel like I made a great friend.
Her house is very comfortable and clean. I felt right at home. The location is perfect as well. There are very great regional parks nearby for amazing hikes. But it's close enough to make great other day trips as well. Sedona, Tucson, Lost Dutchman, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff.
Words fail me to write how great my trip and stay were here. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I am a vet tech, writer and wilflife rehabber. In my spare time (if I have any) I take bike rides, swim, hike, go birding and listen to a lot of music.
My son is a real teenager and is in his second year of high school. He loves gaming and animals.
We both love nature, outdoors and historical sites.
My ultimate travel goal is to visit every state in the US (I know...very long term goal haha). My son's travel goal is to see as many animals in the wild as he can and has his mind set to South Africa :). Within Europe we are open to anything but prefer locations with easy access or driving distance.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
Bea (left) and Bowie (right) are the two free roaming bunnies inside. They can be boarded. Even though they look cute, it is daily work which you may not want on your holiday.
Our two sweet boys Bodhi and Benji. They love to cuddle and play.
Our newest roommate named Benji. He was born in early June and is still full of energy.
When you walk down the street, you will find yourself in the GroenBlauwe zone. Here are several walking and cycling paths to enjoy the polders.
Walking area as you walk down the street. There are two walls for sand martins to breed in.
The cheese market. Every Thursday from April to August.
De Hoge Gouwe. Turn left at the end of the street and you are here. View on the Gouwekerk. This is no longer in use, but is used for exhibitions, for example. Winter 2018 a skating rink was placed here.
The Saint John. The tallest church in the Netherlands with 123 meters. Built in Gothic style and famous for its stained glass. Beautiful area in the city for walking. Also worth the effort to view inside. You can visit it for free at some events in Gouda. A little more than 5 minutes walk from my house.
Molen de Roode Leeuw located on the Vest (5 minutes walk from my house). Seen here from the Museumhaven.
The Museum harbor. On the right you can see the Gouwekerk in the distance. In this harbor there are ships that date from around 1900.
The canal on the Oosthaven.
The Haastrechts mill on the IJsseldijk. Nice cycling route from Gouda to Haastrecht.
Through the polders on the bike.

Amsterdam. Easily accessible from Gouda. About 50 minutes by train.
Utrecht. Lived as a student for years and worked in one of these restaurants on the canal. Wonderful bustling city. About 20 minutes by train from Gouda. Train leaves approximately every 10 minutes.
