General overview
Spacious 4 bedroom/2.5 bath house in the Charleston suburbs perfect for family travel!
Charleston is consistently voted one of the top travel destinations in the United States. The city is a gorgeous representation of southern culture, impressive architecture, and some of the best food in the region. From the history buff to the beach bum, there's something for everyone in this historic destination.
Our home is centrally located 20 minutes from the Charleston International Airport, 30 minutes from the Downtown Charleston Peninsula, and within one hour of more than 5 local beaches. Our neighborhood is nestled in a cute, safe suburb of Charleston with easy driving access to many grocery stores and restaurants. There is also a network of 20+ miles of hike and bike trails accessible from our back yard with several playgrounds in walking/biking distance.
The house can comfortably sleep 8 and is furnished with one king bed (in the downstairs primary bedroom), one double bed (in the office), a twin bed with a pull out trundle (toddler room), and two more twin beds (in our boys' room). Larger parties that are open to couch and air mattress travel are welcome! We also have a large, oversized backyard with an inground pool and lots of fun backyard toys including a ninja course, mud kitchen, and zip line.
I promise there's nothing your kids can destroy that my kids haven't already tested!
**Note--Charleston is not a public transportation-friendly city, so we're open to including use of our car in exchanges, if needed.
The space
-One downstairs master bedroom with ensuite bath, King size bed
-One upstairs office/guest bedroom with work area and double bed
-One upstairs bedroom with twin bed and additional twin trundle bed (our little girl's room)
-One upstairs bedroom with two twin beds (this is our boys' room)
-Livingroom
-Den
-Dining room
-Patio and deck
-Large fenced yard
-Inground pool
Guest access
All entrances to the home require navigating a few steps, either up the front porch or through the garage. There is one downstairs bedroom, and one downstairs shower with a separate bath.
Our pool has a net-fence enclosure but it is easily penetrable and should never be trusted as a primary safety defense for non swimmers. All children should always be supervised while outside.
Notes
We do have one indoor/outdoor cat. We're flexible on how to handle his care during exchanges, but he's a pretty shy guy so even pet-friendly guests would likely see him very little!

Happy to meet up with travelers exploring the Lowcountry!
We were SO happy to have Amber's place as our first non-sim exchange!! Amber's family is so sweet & laid back, they really made us feel welcome and like it was our home for the weekend. Nothing was stressful, from preparing, getting there and using anything in the home. We had a fabulous time!
Amber was such a great communicator and answered my 100 silly questions within minutes which was super helpful. She left us extensive recommendations and instructions. The grownups loved hanging around the bon fire and exploring downtown Charleston while the littles enjoyed their 'polar plunge' in the pool well before summer (crazy kids) and the tweens' favorite was riding the tandem bike - what a treat for the whole family!
We cannot wait to have them at our place soon so we can spoil them right back & welcome them to our space - how fun to find PEOPLE JUST LIKE US!
Our stay at the Cooks' house was fantastic and better than we could have imagined! Ben and Amber are so easy and fun to communicate with and we felt like we had known them for years before we even started our exchange. The house was so clean and spacious, and they put effort into making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable.
Their home is perfect for families, and Ben and Amber graciously allowed my mom, sister, and niece to stay with us for part of our exchange. The Cook children were so kind to share their toys, games, and books with our kids. We swam as often as we could in their clean and refreshing swimming pool! The workspace they had was perfect for remote work.
The location of their home was central to so many things! We saw many historical sites, visited state parks, beaches, and museums, and took weekend trips to nearby states.
I was a little hesitant about the fact that they have a cat because I'm not really a pet person but Amber assured me he was low maintenance. She was absolutely right! He stayed outside the whole time and we filled his food and water bowls every few days. He is somewhat shy, so we rarely saw him.
I honestly have nothing negative to say about our stay in the Cooks' home. They are gracious, kind, and good people and our exchange with them couldn't have been better. When it was time to go, my six year old told me he wasn't happy we had stayed three weeks. I was really surprised, then he said, "We should have stayed for five weeks." I agree.
I wish Amber’s family was our next door neighbors!! They were such a pleasure to host! They took care of a million little things that I forgot about & communicated throughout. They gave our kitties love & thought about things we didn’t as though it was their own home, even replenishing random household items.
It was the biggest treat to come home to a sparkling clean and wonderful-smelling home! They even offered to pay for cleaning which was entirely unnecessary since they did such a fantastic job.
The kids thoroughly enjoyed the goodies they left us & we can’t wait to hang out with them again soon.
If you have the opportunity to exchange with the Cooks, do not hesitate to do so! :)
Amber and her family stayed with us in Crete. The communication with them was excellent. They looked after our house throughout their stay and left it in perfect condition.
It was a great pleasure to host Amber and her family! They took great care of our home and we highly recommend them to all exchangers. We would love to welcome them back anytime and look forward to going to their place in Charleston!
We felt so privileged to welcome Amber, Ben, and their kids into our home. They were the perfect guests. We came home to an immaculate house and van (we had done a car swap as well). They went above and beyond and even mowed our lawn! Our home was well-cared for while we were gone. The Cook family will always be welcome in our home and I hope they will come back someday!
Liezel's home was the perfect home base for our 4th of July cousin-meet up. The house is incredibly spacious and had plenty of room (and toys!) for our 7 kiddos (so. many. kids). Our older kids loved the en-suite bathrooms (priorities) and the littles were all about their basement "apartment". Everything in the house is organized, labeled, and very intuitive to use.
But as perfect as the house is, it pales in comparison to the yard! Y'all, if you're outdoor people like we are, do not sleep on this swap! Our kids spent almost every waking moment in the gaga ball bit, on the zip line, exploring the trail around the property, picking blueberries, jumping on the trampoline, challenging the adults to a giant kickball game...it was straight from a 90's coming-to-age movie. And all the outdoor time gave the adults lots of opportunities to make use of the many outdoor seating areas, fire pit, and sunset patio.
When not at the house we enjoyed river tubing and swimming at the nearby Hanging Rock State Park, but honestly, there was so much to do at the house that we stayed hunkered for most of the trip.
We're very grateful to Liezel and her family for giving us the chance to make memories with our family in such a beautiful space.
We enjoyed a magical week in Uri's lovingly restored home in the countryside of Crete. The house itself was a true piece of art--the perfect mix of creative, historic, and homey. We loved the opportunity to stay in a less-touristy area of the island and had a great time exploring the surrounding towns while being an easy drive from major sites. We found the space to be perfect for our family of five--big enough to cook meals and play games on the porch.
Uri was a lovely exchange partner--very organized and communicative. We also had a great experience with Anna, the house manager who is local to the island and a fantastic resource during the swap. We're grateful to them both for providing a wonderful stay.
Highly recommend for anyone wanting to spend time on Crete!
Liezel and her fabulous family were ideal exchange partners. We couldn't have asked for a better family to host for our first non-sim swap. Liezel is an excellent communicator with a great sense of humor. She and her family were flexible and accommodating with dates and times and brought a laid-back spirit to the swap.
The highlight of the exchange was getting the chance to meet Liezel and her family before they headed home. We were blown away when they invited us over for a cookout at the house complete with an Easter egg hunt they organized for all the kids. Never have we felt so pampered in our own home! We immediately felt like long-time friends and had a great time getting to know each other in person.
We ended the exchange with a very clean house, lots of leftover snacks, and an immense gratitude for this community of like-minded travelers.
Highly recommend exchanging with this incredible family! We're counting down the days to our next exchange with them.
We loved our time at Pat and Bruce's beautiful lakefront home. The weather was a bit rainy during our visit, but that gave us extra time to hang out in the large basement and play pingo pong and other fun family games. The home is very spacious but still cozy--we loved all the large windows and reading nooks. My husband also appreciated the dedicated workspace as a temporary office.
Pat and Bruce's neighborhood is beautiful and very convenient to the airport, Mall of America, and a few nearby state parks. We especially enjoyed the chance to explore a new area during fall apple picking season.
Pat and Bruce were generous and experienced hosts with clear and concise communication. We look forward to hosting them and highly recommend them as swap partners!
Our family of five spent an incredible three weeks in the Tullis's beautifully equipped home just outside of Salt Lake City. The house itself was roomy, spotless, and perfect for entertaining kids. We enjoyed evening walks around the many neighborhood playgrounds, had the pleasure of meeting some of their lovely neighbors, and enjoyed fresh produce from the garden.
In terms of location, we couldn't have asked for a better spot for our hiking and adventure-loving family. Amelia's home was the perfect launching point for a long National Park weekend in Moab, another weekend trip to Park City, and tons of day trips to local hiking spots, state parks, and national monuments. My kids left the trip with more Junior Park Ranger badges than their little packs can hold.
The highlight of our exchange was getting to know the Tullis family. I don't know if it's typical to have multiple group chats with your swap exchange partners or for your kids to send lots of messages and videos of their lego creations to their swap buddies, but we sure loved it! It goes to show that PLU truly is more about building relationships than swapping houses.
We learned so much about swapping from this experience (mostly from Amelia's top notch organization and hostess skills) and can't wait to do it again.
Absolute perfect house guests! My house (and car!) have never been cleaner than after the Tullis's stay. Excellent communicators throughout the stay as well. We especially loved swapping with their sweet, creative, and delightful children! Highly recommend 👌

We're a fun-loving family of 5 from the suburbs of Charleston, South Carolina. My husband Ben and I have two sweet little boys (ages 6 and 8) and a spitfire little girl (2 years). Our family loves being outdoors, exploring new places, and adventures of all kinds. I'm a part-time flight attendant and Ben works remotely (which gives us flexible travel options), however our boys are in public school, so we're frequently limited to school holidays for long term travel.
