Hospitality Description: This is our main family home. We travel a few times a year, so potentially could be non- simultaneous. Happy for hospitality for a few days- we work, so we won’t be great as guides during the week, but we have people who can help out.

General overview
The large house and garden is located in an outer suburb in Kampala, Uganda. It’s a quiet neighbourhood, not too far from the main part of the city, the airport and lake in Entebbe and other Lake Victoria areas. Great views of the lake in one direction and the valley the other way. Right on top of a hill, with great breeze as well.
It is easy to find someone to drive for you, or jump on a ‘boda boda’ (motorbike) if that’s for you, but very little other public transport - it’s Kampala!
The space
This is a very large, secure house with night guard. Two storey house. One bedroom with full bath downstairs, plus another toilet. Lounge, kitchen, laundry etc. Upstairs you’ll find 4 bedrooms and a ‘playroom’. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. There is a large balcony with views over Lake Victoria, with a hammock and tapchan (like a large daybed). There is also an upstairs lounge area.
Downstairs another large balcony and a few smaller ones.
Whilst the house is not modern, and the styling may be in need of some updating😄 it is very comfortable, large and has everything you need. It is Africa and Uganda though and you need to be ready for that.
Power cuts are fairly frequent (we have large battery inverters for lights and wifi, so we rarely find it an issue). Showers can be problematic at different times - sometimes water pressure is amazing, other times it’s not so great.
The garden is very large and very secure - a wonderful place to relax and for children to play.
We have two golden retrievers. They are extremely friendly and looked after by the night guard, but love any attention, including walks and cuddles! However we can have them stay with a neighbour. They are absolutely beautiful though.
Bedrooms: we have 2 king sized beds, one queen and 2 large singles. A sofa can easily sleep one, and we have some other mattresses and plenty of floor space! So get in contact if you have a larger group as we can be very flexible.
We generally have a cleaner who comes, but doesn’t have to come, or can come more often! Up to you. She’s wonderful and would be a great source for help around town as well.
We cannot have cats as we have allergies. We do have the dogs, so if you brought a dog they’d have to be friendly (unless we move our dogs whilst you are here, which can be done).
Guest access
Two floors. There is a single bedroom on the ground floor and living areas downstairs. There are steps into the house.
Notes
As I said, it is Africa and Uganda. You need to be aware of what that means so you can ensure that you get the most out of the adventure.
We have plenty of yard and board games for you to use. We have camping gear that we would be happy to discuss you using as well (great for Uganda!) we also have a 4WD that we’d be happy to chat to you about using as well, as it’s very helpful to have a car here. Saying that, the driving is very different here so you’d have to have had experience driving in places like this. We can find a driver if this works better for you.

Neighbourhood
We live in a quiet neighbourhood away from downtown Kampala.
There are a few restaurants, a large grocery store and some other shops. It’s really on the outer edges of Kampala as the city has now expanded. Half hour to the lake.
Getting to my home
A car or taxi of some sort is probably needed to get here. You’d fly into Entebbe airport and then come from there.
Nearest airport
Entebbe. About 35 minutes
Getting around
You can walk around the neighbourhood, though there are few sidewalks. Car is probably best.

Hi we are an Australian family who, 13 years ago, took the plunge and accepted jobs overseas - and we haven't looked back since. It's taken us to live in 5 countries (on 4 continents) during this time and we've been lucky enough to go on some amazing adventures. With COVID and our eldest returning to Australia for university, we came closer to home for a few years, but have returned to an area we love - southern and Eastern Africa - Uganda. My husband and I are both secondary school teachers, and our 3 girls have grown up in these schools. We now have a very different view of 'home' and have friends as family all over the world. As a family, we love experiencing new places, and getting to know the people and the culture where we are. We mostly love being outdoors - hiking, camping etc but love wandering around mahallas and country towns and learning about local cultures.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
