General overview

We have a beautiful large 3-bedroomed cottage surrounded by a lovely garden and with views to the hills all around. It is quiet and green with birdsong and sheep calling in the fields. You can go for walks from the doorstep in glorious countryside and with a car you can explore Snowdonia National Park, discover castles, watch dolphins in Cardigan Bay, or enjoy the local steam railways.

The space

There are 3 double bedrooms, two of which can become twin rooms. Two have ensuite shower rooms and one has a private bathroom. There is a downstairs toilet and shower as well. There are two sitting rooms with log burners and a large garden room with windows on 3 sides. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas and electric range cooker. It is a cosy, comfortable house but was built in the 1860s so has low ceilings especially in the bedrooms. The garden is large with lots of slopes and some steep drops - not suitable for little children. We have a sheltered courtyard, lawns, lots of flowerbeds, a vegetable garden, fruit beds and a wild area. At the top of the garden there is a cabin with a deck and views to all the hills around.

Guest access

The house is on two levels with the bedrooms upstairs. There is one ensuite bedroom on the ground level with its own separate access from the courtyard.

Notes

The house is quite remote - down a track from the main road. You will need a car if you are staying here as there is no public transport nearby. There is a small village shop and post office about 3 miles away and then a great range of shops as well as wonderful weekly markets in Machynlleth and Llanidloes which are both 10 miles away. There is no mobile reception at the house - which we think adds to the peace of the place - but we have excellent fibre optic broadband so you can use WhatsApp, Messenger, Skype etc. Our water comes from a spring in the hill behind the house. It is double filtered and purified and tastes wonderful!

Neighbourhood

This a brilliant place for a holiday! There are mountains and hills for walking, lakes for swimming, sailing and fishing and several vintage steam railways which are great fun. The seaside with long sandy beaches and watersports is only 40 minutes' drive away and there are lots of fabulous castles to explore. The long distance footpath, Glyndwr's Way, goes behind the house and there are excellent cycling and mountain biking routes. There are very good pubs, restaurants and cafes for eating out in the nearby towns.

Getting to my home

The nearest airports are Birmingham and Manchester - both about 2.5 hours' drive away. Car hire is essential if you want to explore the area. The nearest train station 10 miles away at Machynlleth.

Maya

John and I live in a beautiful house in the Cambrian mountains in mid Wales with a large garden and views to the hills. We love food (growing it and eating it!), walking, being out in nature and also sitting by a cosy log fire with a good book. We are new to swapping but have family in Madrid and in Stockholm and so would especially love to swap in Sweden and Spain but we also love to explore Europe.
