Neighbourhood

We live in a quiet residential area in the northern part of the village. Entrance to dunes and forests is at a stonethrow, and the golden beaches of the northsea are 20 bike-minutes away. You may get to the beach by car as well. Trainstation is in Alkmaar, at 7 kilometers, and four trains per hour will take you into the centre of Amsterdam or Haarlem...a 35 minute trainride.

Nearest airport

Schiphol Airport is at 50 kilometers , easily and conveniently connected by motorways or train.

Getting Around

We can discuss the use of our car (a small Renault Twingo -stick shift), you may use our bikes of course and we can provide you with public transport cards for bus/tram and trainrides. Parkingfees in the big cities are very high, so we strongly advice to catch the very convenient trains. The village is at walking distance. We have 3 big supermarkets and an outdoormarket on saturday. Of course you may also ride your bike 'into town'

People Like Us Local Guide

As I used to be a (long distance) runner, I really know all the paths in the dunes, including those leading to the beach, I know what places could be interesting when visiting North Holland, and as we've lived in the very centre of Amsterdam for many, many years I could help exploring our great capital, maybe even take you on a walk/tour there...

Klaas

Lilian used to be a manager in a Childrens Psychiatric Hospital and is now enjoying 'retired' life to the max. Lots of tennis and lots of garden. I have worked with Youth at Risk and Juvenile Delinquents for many, many years and I am retired as well, I volunteer at various organisations, and together we walk the dunes and the beach, read books, work the garden and support our daughters -and spend time with our two sweet grandchildren. I used to be a long distance runner, but alas...those were the days. Lilian and I have been travelling a lot since the very early '70s We 've been backpacking all over the globe: Europe, United States, Canada, East Africa, Asia, Latin America, South-East Asia and the Far East. After our children were born (we have three beautiful daughters) we stayed mainly in Europe, but later on, we traveled as a family to New England, Nova Scotia, Rajasthan and Ladakh, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia,Tanzania....House swapping took us to European destinations, but also to the Faeroer, Vancouver Island, Taiwan, South Korea, New York....all wonderful experiences.
