Neighbourhood

The school is located on the edge of the small friendly and open-minded village of Kloosterburen. Right outside our door, farmlands are all over the place. The area is known for its agriculture with very wide open spaces full of potatoes, onions, cabbage and corn. It is a very impressive flat landscape. We have bicycles with which you can explore the area, within 10 minutes you are at the end of the world, at the famous Wadden Sea. No swimming here, but special nature and complete silence, and of course walking on the mud flats!! Try it (only with a guide), it's magical! You can also explore old villages, traditional places such as working windmills or a candle factory, or book a cruise on the Wadden Sea. For kids, there's an outdoor pool nearby, a huge corn maze, canoeing in creeks, a fun zoo, and more. Close to Kloosterburen is Pieterburen, famous for the Pieterpad and the Seal Centre. Within 15 minutes by car to the west is the Lauwersmeer for swimming, sailing, fishing, bird watching, walking and cycling. You will also find the ferry to the island of Schiermonnikoog here. Within 15 minutes by car to the east you can visit Winsum, a very picturesque village that has been voted the most beautiful village in the Netherlands. For a city experience you can go to Groningen, a beautiful monumental and cultural city. Easy to reach by car (30 minutes) or by train (15 minutes) from Winsum.

Getting around

Kloosterburen has a nice restaurant with very friendly owners. Shops are in the next village, here you will find supermarkets and local boutiques, shops and more restaurants. Easy to reach by car, bicycle or public transport.
