General overview
We live in the historic district, in a beautiful century home. Walking distance to downtown, train station, and bus service. Our community is vibrant, with artists and musicians, small bakery cafes, restaurants and biking trails. A short drive out of town and you will be transported to another world…Mennonite country! Here you’ll see how Mennonites live, farming and producing beautiful handiworks. Be delighted by their way of transport, horse and buggies! Enjoy the typical dress of the Mennonites, and absolutely enjoy their home baking, summer sausage and maple syrup!
In less than an hour you can be in a major city, Toronto, and enjoy live musicals and fantastic restaurants, theater, professional sports, shopping.
If you like live theatre, you will love it here! Stratford is a 40 minute drive away, and boasts world class live theatre, at Stratford Festival, featuring Shakespearean plays as well as other more modern plays. There is also Dayton Festival theatre, which has live plays at various locations nearby. Lastly, the Centre in the Square, is a ten minute walk from our home, and famous musicians play there often.
In less than two hours you can be on a beautiful sandy beach, on one of the Great Lakes. Experience a sunset on Lake Huron, and you will never forget it. People say there’s no sunset like a Lake Huron sunset.
Niagara Falls is less than two hours away, and it is one of the wonders of the world. Definitely a must see if you come to this area.
The space
Our home was built in 1916, it is typical of the homes of our area. It is a very walkable neighborhood, mature trees, friendly people, and cafés and restaurants and public transit all just a few minutes walk away.
I’m a certified interior decorator, and really enjoy making my home welcoming and lovely. You’ll find so many unique touches throughout my home.
The city has beautiful parks and biking and walking trails. It is easily accessible by local transit if you don’t have a car. The newish light rail transit system can be accessed just a short walk away from our house.
Art galleries, museums, historical homes, library, are all very close to our house. The beautiful Grand River runs through town, and we often enjoy kayaking on it.
Guest access
The house has four stories, including the basement and the attic, but guests will primarily use the main floor and the second floor.
There is a front porch for sitting, and a pleasant backyard with a wooden deck with table and chairs. There’s a fire pit in the backyard, it is legal to have fires here as long as you do it safely and wisely.
Notes
Since our children are grown, we have taken over their bedrooms to make a sewing room and gym. That means there is only one bedroom, with a king size bed. There is plenty of room to put an air mattress if required.

Neighbourhood
Our neighbourhood is called the Central Frederick Neighbourhood. The houses are the oldest houses in the city, beautiful brick homes, and mature trees line every street. Children play freely, musicians sometimes sit on their porches and make music, and there are festivals and art walks happening often in Kitchener Waterloo. I am happy to provide ideas and suggestions about what is happening when you’re visiting here.
Getting to my home
Toronto airport is 50 minutes away. We suggest renting a car from the airport, and it is very straightforward to get to our home. Alternatively, there is bus and train service to town. Although it is only a half hour walk from the train or bus station, if you have luggage it is easier if you just use an Uber or a taxi to get here.
Nearest airport
Lester B Pearson airport is in Toronto, and it is 50 minutes away. There is also Waterloo Wellington airport, which is about 20 minutes away but it doesn’t offer international flights at this time.
Getting around
A bus can be picked up at the end of our street, and that can take you down to the terminal where you can transfer to anywhere you would like to go. We also have a fairly new light rail system and you can pick that up near downtown, about a 20 minute walk from our home.
Grocery shopping is within walking distance, as are several restaurants.
