Carrick-on-Shannon is a boating centre and has shopping and restaurants that cater to the tourist trade as well a locals. There is an arts centre "the Dock" and a local theatre. Located just 2 hours from Dublin, day trips to the west coast are a 40 minute drive away as well. The border to Northern Ireland is just as close and National Trust properties are a great day excursion. Many walking trails take you to all different landscapes and through small towns with history in every corner. The history dates from Megalithic tombs through revolutionary sites. This is the land of Yeats and we continue to exchanged with people from Dublin in the arts looking for peace and inspiration. Trad music can be found locally as well. Most important to me is the water, in all its forms it can be accessed and enjoyed. See my website for pictures inspired by the water. https://www.loislens.com/Reflections-on-Ireland-2019/ There are great restaurants in Carrick-on-Shannon.
A car is required as we are just 2 miles out of Carrick-on-Shannon. Many walking trails are available locally and further afield.
