Neighbourhood
Our general community is called ‘The Sunshine Coast’. Here is a quote from our local tourism board about our area.
“While exploring the Sunshine Coast, please remember to be safe, responsible, and respectful. We’re all visitors on the traditional territories of the Tla’amin, Klahoose, shíshálh, Skwxwú7mesh, and Homalco Nations.”
Our immediate community is the village of Roberts Creek. It is about a 20 minute walk from our house to the ‘Heart of the Creek’ where there is a general store, a health food store, a real community post office (one of only a few left in Canada), a tiny library, two lovely restaurants, a pier, and a few other merchants and businesses. There is public transit with a bus stop very near the top of our driveway. The bus takes you to either of the larger towns in our local community: Gibsons or Sechelt.
In either of Gibsons or Sechelt you will find all the services you will need, including major grocery stores, liquor stores, tourist and other services, lots of restaurants and bars, farmers markets, marinas, and lovely places to amble. There is a hospital in Sechelt. Our nearest full size supermarket is in Wilsons Creek, which is about 5 km away (5 minute drive).
Some amazing tourist attractions in the Sunshine Coast (for more info see: https://sunshinecoastcanada.com/ )
Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox falls cruise - from Egmont, 70 km drive northwest. An fabulous day adventure.
Skookumchuk Narrows - also from Egmont. A stunning level hike through old growth forest to a viewing point at Shookumchuk narrows, to see world class rapids and a reversing tide. A favourite internationally known spot for sport kayakers to ‘play’ on the rapids.
Hiking. Lots of options from short viewpoints (eg Soames Peak, overlooking Howe Sound) to day hikes (eg Mount Daniel near Pender Harbour), to cool creekside rambles on. Hot day (eg Chapman Creek and Cliff Gilker park). Cliff Gilker park also has a great children’s play area.
Mountain biking: The Sunshine Coast is one of the preeminent locations in Canada for mountain biking, with over 700 trails spanning 800+ kms, with purpose built terrain (Sprockkids Park and Coast Gravity Park) and wilderness trails. Bike rentals are available in both Sechelt and Gibsons.
Cross country skiing and snowshoeing: we are home to Dakota Ridge, the ski area that was used as a training venue for Olympic athletes prior to the Vancouver Olympics. There is road access; chains are required (really! so purchase some if you do not have them). Gear rentals are available from Alpha Adventures (near to our house, not once you get up to the ski area). Alpha also runs a daily shuttle in season if you don’t want to brave the drive yourself.
shíshálh Nation tems swiya Museum: located in Sechelt, this First Nations museum showcases a large collection of artifacts from the area. You will be warmly welcomed and it it well worth a visit.
Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives: in Gibsons; named one of the top community museums in BC. Features exhibits of settler history (early logging, agriculture, and maritime history) as well as exhibits co-curated by the Squamish Nation. There is also an exhibit about the well loved TV show ‘The Beachcombers’ that aired in Canada from 1972 to 1990 and was filmed in Gibsons.
Gibsons Landing and Davis Bay: two great areas to stroll, eat ice cream, browse funky shops, have a seaside beverage, etc.
Nearest airport
Vancouver international airport 70 km.
Sechelt Harbour Air seaplane base 13 km.
Getting around
The best way to get here is by car, and it is very handy to have a car to take advantage of the many other attractions in our area, including hiking, mountain biking, golf, cross country skiing, to name a few.
However taking the seaplane from YVR or Vancouver is an experience and we do have bicycles that will make getting around easier.
We also have a 5 seater car that we will consider swapping for simultaneous or reciprocal exchanges.

Standing on our deck looking out at the beach and the ocean.
Imagine a cool drink next to the ocean; or ‘smores’ cooked in the outdoor grill.
We call this the front entrance because this is where you enter from the driveway; but really, the ocean side is the true front.
This is the real front of the house, looking up from the beach.
Welcome! Come on in.
Entering into the main living areas. The principal bedroom suite is on the left.
On the left you will see the wood burning stove. We use it to heat the house but there are lots of other heat sources as well so it is not necessary.
The kitchen and dining area. There are three more leaves for the table.
Cozy reading nook beside the dining area.
Large walk in pantry off the kitchen.
The great room, with wood burning fireplace.
From the great room, heading into the guest bedroom area.
Bedroom with Queen sized bed. The windows overlook a shrubbery with birdsong in the mornings.
The closet holds lots of bins filled with kids’ toys and games for all ages.
Full bathroom with shower and tub serving the guest wing.
Bedroom number 2 in the guest wing of the house. Bed is a true twin size, fits a full grown teenager. Lots of windows, but with blackout curtains.
Two steps up from the kitchen area into the principal bedroom suite.
Principal bedroom with queen size bed. Lots of windows with a view to the ocean.
Full bathroom next to the principal bedroom.
Spa tub with a beach view.
Walk in shower
On the lower level we have an office.
And another office that doubles as the 4th bedroom.
Third full bathroom, adjacent to bedroom number 4.
Laundry room
We have lots of spots to sit and enjoy the view.
And a big vegetable garden in the middle of the driveway.
Guest cottage in the ‘back’ yard near the driveway. Fondly referred to by the kids as ‘The Love Shack’!
Inside the guest cottage showing queen size bed. I don’t leave bedding here as the space is unheated when not in use. We do have heat and A/C here when needed.
Half bath (toilet and sink) in the guest cottage.
This is the car ferry we take to get from the city of Vancouver to our community.
