General Overview
We live in a sweet and neat 1940's home with a lovely garden in Albany, California. Albany borders Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay. This is an extremely safe, pleasant, and walkable area with amazing shops, restaurants, and green spaces just minutes away.
Here's a July 2026 article about our small town on the SF Bay: https://www.travelandleisure.com/albany-california-guide-12027898
Bus stops are a 5 minute walk away, while BART public transit stations are about 20 minutes walk away, and parking is a breeze in our driveway or on the street.
Our temperate climate is unbeatable and there is even a beach on SF Bay about a mile away. Our home and town are convenient and a fun place to base oneself for a Bay Area vacation!
Welcome!
The Space
Our home is comprised of two bedrooms upstairs with a bathroom (WC, tub, & shower) and on the main floor, a dining area, living room, and kitchen. Downstairs there is the third bedroom/den and the second bathroom (WC & shower) as well as our washer & dryer.
We have two TVs, a Sonos music system, and high-speed wifi at home. A door leads outside to the large and sunny Mediterranean-style garden with lots of seating, outdoor dining, BBQ, fountain, succulent plants, and lemon, persimmon, fig, olive, and bay trees. In the garden, there is a studio... a quiet and sunny spot to read or work. Our neighbors are friendly and helpful. Parking is plentiful and there are biking and walking paths and a greenway (small park) across the street. Trains pass our house on the elevated track across the road periodically, but it’s not really a noise issue or nuisance. We are confident that you would be very comfortable and happy staying at our home.
Guest Access
This is a split level home with 3 sets of 5-7 steps.
We have keyless entry, so you will receive a code to the front door.
Notes
We have written a home exchange manual for guests as well as a guide to our favorite places and fun things to do.
Our home is an excellent home base for exploring the SF/the Bay Area...with or without a car.

Neighbourhood
Albany is often described as "an urban village by the Bay." Our location is super safe, friendly, well-connected to Bay Area public transportation (BART & AC Transit), and, most importantly, extremely walkable to an incredible array of unique shops, restaurants, markets, and many other amenities. More info: https://www.510families.com/albany-ca-with-kids/
Solano Avenue is a 2-mile commercial street just one block north from our home with so many great shops and eateries to explore. More info: https://www.solanoavenueassn.org/solano-avenue-directory/
Westbrae is another neighborhood: a much smaller group of shops, restaurants, and services just 2 blocks south of us in the other direction. More info: https://www.lovewestbrae.com/
Across the street from us is the Ohlone Greenway which has walking and bike paths connecting you to shopping/restaurant areas, BART stations, and our neighboring communities. The OG is great for people-watching and the elevated BART track reminds you that you are so close to San Francisco! More info: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/ohlone-greenway
Other attractions:
Albany Public Library-7 houses away

It was so lovely to meet Mimi and Steve as well as their daughter to share a meal and show them the quirks of our house. We had a lovely evening finding we had many things in common.
Throughout the exchange process Mimi and Steve were prompt and friendly with all their communication with a FaceTime before confirming the exchange and by what's app afterwards. We were confident to leave our home in their hands . We had another exchange after theirs and they very kindly remade the beds , cleaned and hoovered so we had no need to worry about everywhere being ready to our next guests. They also brought us some very thoughtful gifts from their home which was greatly appreciated. We felt like we had made new friends not exchange partners and hope to keep in contact in the future. A 5 star review from us!
We are delighted to give Jan and Callum a glowing review for the lovely few days we spent in their home in the village of Bampton during our September Pluto exchange.
When we first connected, we had no idea that Bampton was THE village used in the Downton Abbey series to stand in for the village of Downton. Their sweet stone cottage was even included during the filming as it sits very close to the village church and is very authentic.
Bampton is the perfect gateway from London Heathrow airport to Oxford and the Cotswolds! We drove just over one hour from the airport before we arrived in this lovely English village.
We were very warmly welcomed by Jan and Callum and shared a delicious meal with them — our new friends — that same evening. If you appreciate a setting oozing with character, they have it in spades here: a unique stone cottage from the 17th century in the heart of a charming and walkable village with pubs, shops, and friendly locals.
Jan and Callum gave us loads of useful information to make the most of our stay and their recommendations were top-notch. In recent years, Bampton village has welcomed more visitors, but it’s not overrun with tourists or spoiled in any way.
We hope that we can welcome our new friends to the San Francisco Bay Area one day to return their gracious hospitality and to renew our friendship.
This was a five-star exchange without a doubt! Thank you, Jan and Callum!

Welcome to the San Francisco Bay Area! We live a short 20-minute BART train ride away from the attractions of San Francisco... and have much warmer and sunnier weather here in the East Bay!
Our home... you may park your car in the driveway. We will also have two bikes in the garage for your use. We are within walking distance of everything you'd want or need, plus great connections to BART or bus lines.
There is a separate garden studio to use as a peaceful workspace.
