Neighbourhood
The cottage is one street back from the sea and is actually on the Fife Coastal Path - a long-distance trail with wonderful views and quaint villages - and only a 5-minute walk from a tidal pool for wild swimming.
Perfect for those looking for a quiet stay with plenty of fresh air, good food and long walks.
Within the village is a good coffee shop, a fine-dining restaurant and the Smokehouse (licensed) on the pier is great for seafood lunches or dinner.
There is a local store within 5 minutes' walk in the village, selling all essentials. A larger supermarket is in Anstruther, 3.5 miles away.
The beautiful wee church, right by the shore, is the nearest to the sea in Scotland.
St Monans is a picturesque, quiet (extremely quiet out of season when much of the local tourist industry shuts down but it really comes alive in the summer months) coastal village with a rocky shoreline which is a great base for exploring the local area.
This area of Fife offers lovely beaches, many golf courses (including St Andrews, the home of golf, less than 25 mins drive), lots of outdoor activities, pretty coastal villages, ancient towns and a great Fisheries museum. Also whisky (and gin) distilleries, good birdwatching (and summer boat trips to nearby bird reserve island), great food and food shopping from Elie to Crail (Anstruther Fish Bar for award-winning fish and chips).
Close enough to go into the capital, Edinburgh, for the day for to get that busy city vibe!
Nearest airport
Edinburgh airport 1 hour drive
Glasgow airport under 2 hours drive.
Dundee airport 45 minute drive (flights to London City airport)
Getting around
There is an efficient bus route all along the coast - offering the opportunity for 1-way walks or car-free exploring (St Andrews or Edinburgh).
