We're hoping to spend some time in Queensland next year, probably in July. We do prefer reciprocal exchanges, but have globes to offer. Our home will also be empty for three weeks in May/June for non simultaneous exchanges.
We love our home which we built and have renovated over many years to keep it modern and comfortable. It is set on half an acre in the hills of Perth and has sweeping valley views. With a large swimming pool, decked area, covered patio and reticulated garden the house is ideal for relaxed outdoor living. The sunsets from the deck are amazing and breakfast by the waterfall is a great way to start the day.
Our home is furnished to a high standard with a newly renovated kitchen and all the usual appliances. There is a central unit to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. If you prefer there are slow log burners in both living areas to cosy up in front of during the winter months. The house is all on one level, but the garden is terraced to accommodate the slope. We have three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. The large master bedroom has a king-sized bed and an ensuite with large bath and views across the hills. Two other bedrooms have double beds. The main bathroom also has a deep bath.
Our summers are hot and long, Spring and Autumn have warm sunny days and cooler nights and even our winter is generally warm. Any time of the year is a perfect time to visit.
Roleystone is awash with wildflowers in late winter/early spring. Visitors travel from all over the world to see the amazing colour, variety and volume of flowers only found in Western Australia. The season begins in winter and continues until late spring - moving north to south.
Guest access
The house is on one level but the garden is split into three levels to accommodate the slope (and view).
Notes
As we have had no exchanges yet with PLU we don't have any reviews. Here are some reviews from another home exchange site.

We had a delightful autumn exchange at Karen and Wally’s wonderfully comfortable house, nestled in the Perth Hills with fabulous views across the valley. The house and garden were a delight to be in and some days we just spent ‘staying home’ enjoying its creature comforts. Other days we explored beautiful walking tracks in the nearby hills as well as the fine river city of Perth and its surrounds – full of fabulous public parks and reserves, and of course, the superb coastline of stunning beaches. We found the roads easy to drive on and we were delighted to be able to exchange cars. A continual highlight was spending time with Cy – the most affectionate of cats – who made us feel continually welcome. Karen and Wally were superb communicators and full of generosity who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. They left our home immaculate and we feel privileged to have exchanged with them. A superlative exchange!

“We stayed at Karen and Wally's home in Roleystone, Perth in April 2018. They have a lovely home about 30 minutes drive from the city centre in a very pleasant area with delightful views across a tranquil bush filled valley. Their home is immaculate, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Even kangaroos close by occasionally! The roads and highways make it very easy to get around, driving into Perth was no bother. We travelled by ferry across to Rottnest Island from Fremantle, which was a great day trip. Hired e bikes on the island and had a good look around, well worth the visit. Margaret River is a comfortable drive away although with so many interesting towns along the way, we decided to stay overnight there and enjoy the area. There are many fabulous caves to explore and the wine trail was well worth the drive, especially at this time of year, the vineyards were at their colourful best. We found lots to do in our two weeks there, great places to eat nearby. I recommend Roleys on the Ridge and the Roleystone Club as just a couple. We had great communication with Karen and Wally and look forward to meeting them when they come to stay here in New Zealand. A perfect holiday.”

“We were fortunate enough to have an absolutely perfect exchange with Karen and Wally for two weeks just after Christmas 2017 and cannot rate them highly enough. The home was lovely- it was modern, clean, had everything you could wish for and was so peaceful with incredible views overlooking the valley. Everything was left meticulously for our arrival, and they were so organised with a booklet of information to cover every scenario- obviously very experienced home exchangers! We were made to feel extremely welcome and were able to treat their home as our own. Karen and Wally were very easy to communicate with in the run up to the trip and throughout our stay. They went above and beyond to make life easy for us travelling with two young children and arranged car seats, a cot and a high chair for our arrival, which was unbelievably kind and something we wouldn't have expected at all. We feel lucky to have had such a wonderful time in Perth and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.”

“We had the most relaxing stay in Karen & Wally's home in Roleystone. it is a unique property situated about 35 kilometres from Perth city although only takes 30 minutes to be in the thick of the City. A very comfortable home, we spent many happy hours lazing by the pool and drinking wine on the Deck. Every morning we were greeted by Kangaroos over the back fence and other wildlife which came to say hello. Cy the cat was friendly and we enjoyed many cuddles with him. Karen & Wally left us a welcome gift of some delightful local wines and lots of brochures for us to peruse and make decisions on our daily adventures. We particularly enjoyed our visits to Sandalford and Millbrook Winery. The Camfield Hotel next to the new Optus Stadium was the venue for a catch up of like minded home exchangers from around the World and Australia. Our car exchange was great as we needed this for our day to day travels. Thank you Wally & Karen, it was a pure delight to have an exchange with you. We look forward to many years of friendship. Vicki & Kim”

“We really enjoyed our two-week stay at Karen and Wally\'s home in the Perth hills. Theirs is a beautifully kept home and swimming pool close to the town of Armadale and about 30 minutes from Perth and Fremantle. Karen and Wally had left the house very welcoming for us. We also enjoyed the company of their very affectionate cat, Cy. Their home is ideally situated to explore the area. We enjoyed the annual Cottesloe Beach sculpture exhibition, Kailis famous restaurant in Fremantle, Rottnest Island, and a drive down to Margaret River and back along the scenic coastline. They left our house as they found it and we would definitely recommend them as home exchangers. We enjoyed meeting them in person at the airport as we were leaving and hope to keep in touch.”

Neighbourhood
Traditionally an orchard growing area Roleystone is now a beautiful bush suburb of Perth. All lots are a minimum half acre which equates to privacy and tranquility. Our local area offers great bush walks, local artists, golf, cafes and botanical gardens. It has all the necessary amenities in its village like centre. Our backyard is the Bickley Valley with many vineyards, restaurants. and galleries. We have our own local markets and many others close by.
Only 30 minutes from bustling Perth and Fremantle we are well situated to explore the many attractions. Rottnest Island with its curious quokkas is a favourite with locals and tourists.
Western Australia boasts some of the best unspoilt beaches in the world from which you can view dolphins at play and whales on their migratory journey to and from Antarctica. There are many tours in and around Perth from scenic river cruises and wine tours to snorkelling and fishing. To the south west you can visit many places of interest -vineyards, tree top walks, natural formations, wildlife, local artisans to mention just a few. To the north is the Pinnacles, the famous Monkey Mia and further north the wonderful Ningaloo Reef. There are numerous other interesting places to visit and experience in Perth and WA which are unique to this country and state.
There are now non stop flights from Europe to Perth's international airport. Use Perth as your gateway to other Australian cities or as a destination itself. You won't be disappointed.

Karen and Wally were the perfect hosts-in-absentia, with thorough and timely before-and-during communication and an excellent manual for their beautiful home. Their home setting is spectacularly rural and private, yet access to Perth, Rottnest Island, and the Perth Hills wine country suited our interests very well. An added bonus for us: their wonderful, sociable cat Cy as a companion! Based on our experience of their home, we would not hesitate to host them in ours and hope to have a chance to do so one day.
Karen and Wally have such a beautiful and comfortable home and we were lucky to stay there at the start of the Western Australia leg of our trip.
The house is in a bush land setting in the Perth Hills, about a 40 minute drive from Perth. We didn't use the pool, but spent time on the big deck watching the birds. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. Cy the cat was very friendly and great company.
We did some local hikes and spent some time in the city but it was hard to tear ourselves away from their wonderful home. But we did visit Rottnest Island, which was gorgeous and fun to see the quokkas.
We met with Karen and Wally for coffee and enjoyed sharing travel stories. They were very communicative and helpful. We look forward to seeing them again when we host them at our home in California in September.
We were so happy to have Karen and Wally stay in our home in California. We enjoyed their beautiful place in Perth in May. Sadly, we were not able to see them this time, but communication was great.
They took good care of our home and they are perfect PLU swap partners. I highly recommend them as guests and hosts.
Karen & Wally were lovely guests - respectful of our home & great communication and although we didn’t get to meet them, we hope to when we go to Australia!
Michele and Larry were wonderful guests and clearly experienced exchangers. They were easy to communicate with and were in constant contact throughout the exchange. Our home was left in excellent condition, clean and tidy and ready for our next guests. Cy was very happy to have their care and attention. We would welcome them back at any time and only wish that we had had the opportunity to meet them.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lynn and Pete's spacious, comfortable and light filled home. Their home had everything we needed and Lynn & Pete were always available to answer any queries.
They are in a great location being only 20 minutes from down town San Diego. We were able to enjoy many of the sights and attractions of the area as well as relax in their back yard overlooking the canyon.
Lynn & Pete are most gracious hosts and we highly recommend them and their beautiful home to anyone who wants to explore this interesting city. Thank you both. If you wander down under again we'd love to catch up.
It was a pleasure to welcome Lynn and Pete to our home. We enjoyed catching up with them and would highly recommend them as they were the perfect guests. Communication was great and they left our home exactly as they found it. We look forward to staying in their home later in the year.
Laurie is the perfect example of an ideal exchange host. She is organised, responsive and clearly cares about her guests. Joe & Laurie’s home is spacious, clean and comfortable and the perfect place for relaxing after a busy day of exploring. (We loved wandering through the garden.) Wakefield is an historic town close to many wonderful places. There is so much to explore and enjoy in this area with wineries on the doorstep, the Abel Tasman National Park nearby and Nelson Lakes a short drive away. Thank you, Laurie & Joe, for your hospitality. We look forward to welcoming you to our home sometime in the future.

Wally and I are recently retired teachers in our mid 60's and are now able to travel at most times of the year. We are experienced exchangers having enjoyed many wonderful exchanges since 1997. We have been members of different exchange groups and have recently rejoined, which is why you won’t see any reviews. We love to travel and have had exchanges in cities and rural areas all around the world. We are open to all offers and experiences, we don’t mind the weather and love to visit new countries as well as revisit old favourites. We have one very friendly and very self-sufficient cat. We prefer to keep him at home, however if you plan to travel we can arrange for him to be fed in your absence.
We have finalised our holidays for 2024 and are now thinking of 2025. We'd love to visit some Scandinavian countries and perhaps Netherlands, Belgium, France. But we haven't made any decisions so please tempt us. We also have a couple of globes to use.
"Our eldest daughter lives in Melbourne. We are always looking for stays anywhere in Victoria."
