General Overview

** Globe or non-simultaneous exchange possible: 23 July - 4 August 2025 and 8 - 18 August 2025 ** Typical German half-timbered house, large (180 m²) and bright and distributed over 3 floors. It is a cozy, well-equipped and welcoming house with a beautiful garden in one of Bonn's most beautiful neighborhoods. Very family friendly – lots of gear and toys for kids. The location is a five-minute walk from the beautiful Rhine River and only two tram stops from the city center of Bonn (Germany's capital until 1990!). In 2020, Bonn was voted one of the top 10 "Best to Travel" city destinations in the world by Lonely Planet! A lot of interesting nature (Rhine, lakes, forests, mountains ...), but also German cities worth seeing are really on our doorstep: Cologne, Düsseldorf, Aachen, Frankfurt, Koblenz ... to name just a few. Perfect location to explore Europe by car or train: other countries such as the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Luxembourg are only 1-2 hours away by car. We promise that it won't be boring with us! :) :)

The Space

In recent years, we have spent a lot of time designing our home as it is. For us it is an oasis of relaxation and the children love the many play opportunities. We just love spending time in it and in our self-created garden! The ground floor consists of a kitchen (fully equipped with microwave, dishwasher, XXL oven, professional coffee machine in "barista style" etc.), a spacious living room, a TV/guest room and a bathroom. On the first floor you will find two bedrooms/playroom for children (with plenty of toys for children from about 0-10 years old), a walk-through room and another bathroom. Please understand that our study will not be accessible during your stay. On the second floor there is a nice and bright studio/master bedroom and a small bathroom. For the children, our garden offers several swings, slides, a trampoline, gymnastic poles, a paddling pool, a large sandpit, a playhouse and much more to play in. For the adults, there is a large terrace with several relaxation options, for example a beach chair, comfortable sun loungers, etc. We like to sit on our Italian-style terrace and have a coffee in the sun. .. :-) Other amenities: - Home gym/gym equipment - Antique chess table to play with - Table tennis and table football - Many board games, DVD collection, book collection (German, English, Spanish, Italian, French), CDs - Lots of playground equipment/toys indoors and outdoors for children aged 0-12 - The house is heated with underfloor heating – a great way to heat the rooms and always have warm feet

Guest Access

3 floors (connected by staircase), a total of 180 m2. At the entrance, a small step up.

Notes

We love our home and will treat your home as if it were ours. We have 2 adult bicycles, 2-3 children's bicycles (for the age group 4-12 years) and four scooters (2 for adults, 2 for children). HOSPITALITY STAYS: We can often offer our guest room for guest stays (up to 2 people, possibly one more child). We speak English. Hablamos español. Parliamo Italiano. Nous parlons français.

Neighbourhood

Bonn was voted one of the 10 "best to travel" destinations in the world by Lonely Planet in 2020. :-) Our house is super close to the Rhine and Sieg rivers (with beaches and water activities) in the beautiful and relaxed district of the Bonn district of Beuel. It is one of the most beautiful and greenest neighborhoods in Bonn and very close to the center of Bonn (only two tram stops)! There is so much to do and see in and around Bonn: culture, history, nature ... The city has a 2000-year history and was the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1990! You don't need a car to get around, but if you bring one, you can park it in front of our house. Many families live in our immediate neighbourhood and there is a friendly atmosphere. Everything for your daily needs can be found within walking distance (several bakeries, supermarkets, drugstores, pharmacies, post office, restaurants, playgrounds...). One of Bonn's attractions is just a three-minute walk away: the well-known 12th-century SCHWARZRHEINDORF DOUBLE CHURCH, which is considered one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Germany (its architecture is truly impressive). - Bonn is considered the CITY OF MUSIC – the world-famous German composer Ludwig van Beethoven was born here. His birthplace today is the BEETHOVENHAUS Museum, which houses the largest Beethoven collection in the world and vividly presents his life and work with the help of impressive authentic documents. Numerous events around Beethoven also take place in Bonn, e.g. the Beethovenfest Bonn (every year from mid-September to mid-October). - Hike in the SIEBENGEBIRG, where you can visit DRACHENBURG CASTLE, get up to the DRACHENFELS castle ruins and enjoy a fantastic view of Bonn and the region. - When the weather is nice, you can lie in the sun, paddle or do sports in the RHEINAUEN, Bonn's largest park. - Attend one of the largest and oldest universities in Germany, the UNIVERSITY BONN. Its main building is the former residential palace of the Prussian kings. There are several interesting museums associated with the university. - A great way to explore the former Federal Quarter is the Path of Democracy, a self-guided walking tour of 20 important historical sites. - Climb a terrace on the ALTER ZOLL (a bastion of the city fortifications), enjoy the view of the Rhine and drink a BÖNNSCH in the nearby beer garden. - Bonn's sights include numerous museums, many of them along the city's famous MUSEUM MILE. There is an excellent museum of contemporary German history ("House of History"). You can see what it's like to attend a Bundestag debate, to see an original piece of the famous Berlin Wall, etc. Another museum worth seeing is the Bundeskunsthalle, one of the best exhibition venues in Germany (up to ten exhibitions take place at a time). - Visit one of the oldest churches in Germany, the BONNER MÜNSTER and its Romanesque cloister (the best preserved in Germany). - Take a look at the beautiful baroque castle POPPELSDORF and its BOTANICAL GARDEN (the botanical collection of the university). - A BOAT TRIP on the Rhine is a must :-) - In the south of Bonn is the WALDAUWALD, where you can observe wild boars, fallow deer and red deer in forest clearings. The attraction also includes an information center that offers insights into the ecology of the wider Kottenforst, which stretches over 40 square kilometers south of Bonn. Outside there is a vegetable garden with vegetable and herb cultivation, an ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND and a café for a little refreshment after the walk. - And then there is the CARNIVAL... a major event called the "fifth season" that takes place in Bonn every year, usually six days in February or March. It can happen that you stand in line at the bakery behind someone in a cow costume... ;-) - Bonn's neighboring city of Cologne with all its numerous sights, including the Cologne Cathedral, the well-known Cologne Zoo (more than 10,000 animals, over 800 species, all in exciting animal houses and enclosures) and much more is only 20 minutes away from us. - Other cities worth seeing near Bonn are DÜSSELDORF (1h drive), KOBLENZ (45min drive), AACHEN (1h drive) and FRANKFURT (1.5h drive). All of them are easily accessible by car or train.

Britta

We are a family of three: Britta (study advisor), Clara (born 2014) and Elisa (born 2017). I, Britta, have always loved traveling and getting to know other people, cultures, languages... and it seems I have already passed on the travel bug to my kids! :-) We are also active on another HE platform and on Coachsurfing where we have had wonderful experiences with people from different countries! At the very end of the pictures you will find some reviews of our house from previous exchanges (and AirBnb). If possible, we would like to meet the people we are exchanging with for coffee or another activity - because a home exchange is a great way to meet like-minded people. :-) So please send us an inquiry or an invitation, we are open for all destinations (during school holidays but also on weekends) and look forward to swapping our home with you!
