Our home is a post and beam, quasi-contemporary with lots of character. It has a very spacious living room area with multiple seating options plus a large, open kitchen with island and a table for 4-6 on the main level. An office/guest room with en suite are located on the main level as well and can have a queen size bed in it at your request. Upstairs there are three bedrooms (1 queen and 2 double) and two bathrooms. The owner's room has a private, ensuite bathroom and the two kids' rooms share a bathroom. One kids' room has loft bed with ladder plus stairs. Our home is clean and comfortable and uncluttered (save for the kids project room off the kitchen which has most of the craft supplies you could ever need!)
Although we live by the sea, our home is back in the woods with a large, terraced and landscaped yard and a full deck with multiple seating areas, picnic table and gas grill. We have a trampoline, a treehouse in the woods and an awesome tree swing for the kids and kids at heart. Coming during the summer? We have beach chairs and towels as well as a beach pass and a car to get you there.
Guest access
Our home is situated on two floors. There are 5 steps leading up to the side entrance and one step and a landing leading to the main entrance. There is a deck out back that is flush with the ground level and a terraced backyard.
Notes
Recently, someone asked me about activities that are available out our house and here's a bit of what I wrote back:
Starting out on the micro level and moving to the macro level, we have a fairly large back yard for running and playing along with a separate area with a trampoline and a tree swing. There is a playhouse up in our woods for kids to explore and we have a firepit and a Solo Stove. Our home backs up to a small rock outcropping that our kids love to climb.
The town of Manchester by the Sea is a small former fishing village located between Gloucester and Beverly/Salem, MA. The town has several tennis courts and, of course, Singing Beach, a 1/2 mile wide crescent beach with plenty of space for people to spread out and enjoy themselves in the surf, play ball games, etc. There is a rule over the summer that you can not surf or use inflatables/boogie boards/etc until after 5pm but after that the beach is open for all activities and you can even get a fire permit from the station and have a cookout on the beach after 5pm.
There is a park in town for kids that has baseball, soccer and a couple of climbing structures and swings along with a gazebo. On Tuesday nights in the summer, there is a concert series where you can sit on the lawn and picnic with many others in the town and enjoy local bands and music. The park is located right on the harbor in Manchester, less than 1/4 mile from the beach and across the street from Captain Dusty’s, our locally owned ice cream stand.
We also have a really special place further along the harbor in Manchester for residents and guests only called Tuck’s Point. From there you can launch paddle boards, kayaks, etc and there is a rotunda that sits out over the water that kids LOVE to jump from at high tide. Tuck’s is also a great place for a picnic and there are often events held there in the community house.
Right in the center of town and at the start of our street, there is a 53 acre conservation area with some trails to explore, but the real gem is the network of trails that extend throughout the North Shore of Boston that are perfect for hiking and mountain biking. There are extensive maps and guides for those trails that can be found here: https://www.nemba.org/trails/massachusetts
Our neighboring towns all have plentiful activities and opportunities to be active. Gloucester is a major fishing port right next door where you can take a whale watch tour, visit one of their many world-class beaches, each with a different vibe, hit up a museum or charter a sailboat. Rockport is home to the famous Motif #1; a picturesque little, red fishing shack that is one of the most often painted buildings in America. There are boutiques and lobster roll and ice cream stands galore in Rockport and it is easily accessible by car or train from our home. I found a pretty thorough list of things to do in our immediate area here: https://addisonchoate.com/40-things-to-do-in-rockport-ma/
Moving out further from our enclave, we are about a 2.5 hour drive from the White Mountains in New Hampshire, home to Mount Washington; the tallest mountain in America east of the Mississippi River. There are abundant outdoor activities available including more intense hiking, rock water slides, tramways, flume gorges, zip lining, biking and more.
And, of course, we are a 30 minute train ride right into the heart of Boston where there are innumerable activities and events available all throughout the year and where you can catch a history tour; foodie tour; baseball game at Fenway Park and/or visit a museum, boat out to a harbor island, etc.
Additional information
- We're hoping to get ourselves to London the week of 11/19-26/2022 but we recognise that the true value of our home is access to the glorious North Shore of Massachusetts and the historical sites of Boston. We are open to a multi-family exchange and/or non-sync exchange as well.
- We are a dog/cat friendly home and would love for someone to take care of them while staying with us, but we can arrange to have the dog stay at his doggie-camp. We'd love for the cat to be able to stay. She's very low maintenance and completely not judgy. There's also a small fish tank in my son's room; the water frog and snail that live there have promised to cut down on their raucous partying.
- This is a quintessential opportunity to experience one of the most picturesque areas of New England during one of the most coveted times of year. After an incredible day at Singing Beach, imagine enjoying a delicious cone of ice cream from Captain Dusty's while gazing across the inner harbor as dusk settles over your sandy toes and sun-kissed cheeks.

Neighbourhood
We live at the end of a dead end street (re: quiet) in Manchester by the Sea, MA; a small seaside town with a gorgeous beach (look up Singing Beach) and quaint village area. Our home is an easy 15 minutes walk to the village and only 1.75 miles to world famous Singing Beach. There is a commuter rail in town that takes you directly into Boston, which is about 30 minutes away. We also have great access to the highway which can take you into the city or up to Maine, VT or NH. Our neighborhood is quiet and friendly and our town is vibrant in the summer and cozy in the fall and winter. Outdoor activities and access to nature are ridiculously abundant here with no shortage of access to trails, parks, several world-class beaches, salt marshes, harbors, lakes, streams, ponds, etc to check out.
Getting to my home
The closest international airport to our home is Boston-Logan Airport, however, the Manchester (New Hampshire) regional airport is only a 40 minute drive away. The best way to get to our home from the airport is by Uber or Taxi or car service which we can help arrange should you choose to stay with us.

Boston Logan International Airport
Getting around
We are within walking distance to the village area of our town (20 minute walk) which then has access to the commuter rail that goes right into Beverly, Salem and then Boston. We can also arrange for one of our cars to be available for trips outside of the city. We are located close to Rte 128 which is a major artery around Boston and 95 which runs the length of the East Coast from Maine to Florida.
There is an independent bike store in town that has rentals if desired.
