General overview

Our house was built in 1930 and still has all the characteristic features of that time, such as stained glass and wooden panel doors. It is directly the city center, ten minutes walk to the old canals, the shopping center, the largest train station in the Netherlands. And all that, spacious enough for a family of 6 and a playground directly in front of our house. We love our home because of the friendly neighborhood. There are plenty of children everywhere, nice restaurants and it feels like a small town. In the summer we can leave the front door open, have a picnic, chat anyway and the kids play outside.

The space

On the ground floor we have a living room, open dining room with kitchen, piano and toilet. The kitchen is well equipped and has patio doors to our backyard with seating area. On the first floor there are two children's rooms with a total of three beds (one room has a crossed bunk bed that can serve as a bed and coach together). On the first floor you will find a separate room with the washing machine and dryer. The children's bathroom has a separate shower and bath. On the second floor you will find the master bedroom ensuite and a study with access to the loft with sleeping carriage and bed. Plenty of toys, games etc for children aged 5-10.

Guest access

This is a characteristic 1930s house, with steep stairs, not suitable for people with disabilities.

Neighbourhood

Amsterdam: less than 30 minutes by public transport. Playground right in front of our house. Shopping within 1 minute walking distance. Everything else that the city center of Utrecht has to offer (many restaurants, museums, theater, most beautiful canals) is within walking distance of our house. Would you like to explore the Netherlands, Amsterdam, windmills, canals, the dunes or the waterworks that the Netherlands is known for? We live in the middle of the country, everything can be visited from our house for day trips.

Getting to my home

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is 30 minutes by train, train runs every ten minutes. Eindhoven Airport is 60 minutes by train. Arriving at Utrecht Central Station it is a ten minute walk to our house, or you can take the bus that stops at the end of the street. Our little kids walk from the station, it's very easy and close. Coming to our house by car is OK, but parking is limited and street parking is expensive. Free parking on Sundays only. Sufficient green wheels / car sharing nearby.

Getting around

The city is best explored on foot or by bike. Or take the bus. Although we live next to the largest train station in the Netherlands, with connections to every part of the country, you can be virtually anywhere in the country within an hour's travel time. Public transportation is convenient, frequent and highly preferred. Or use our bikes to travel around the city, as all locals do.

Joyce

Hi We are a family of five (two girls, a boy 6,8 and 10) an easy going, outdoorsy family. We live in lively Utrecht. We have now exchanged once (globe) but no personal experience with exchanging houses yet. We are very excited to start this journey and meet people like us. NB: due to allergies we cannot exchange houses with cats.
