General Overview
Surrounded by National Parks, World Heritage Rainforest, Pristine Beaches and the Clarence River. Iluka is on the North Coast of NSW, a relaxing passenger ferry ride from Yamba and a half hour drive to the riverside town of Maclean. Situated an hour South of the Rainbow Region where you'll find the iconic town of Byron Bay. A 2 hr drive south of the Gold Coast International Airport. Stroll down the road and catch the passenger ferry over to Yamba where you'll discover some amazing food and a pub with one of the best views in Australia. Or enjoy the ferry cruise while discovering the sights of the Lower Clarence River. Our stunning beaches are a 10 min bike ride away and on some lucky days you can have it all to yourself. There's a choice of amazing surf beaches along the coast of Bundjalung National Park with free BBQ's and picnic areas. Local wildlife around the beaches include kangaroos, wallabys, koalas, echidnas, monitor lizards, pelicans, sea eagles, dolphins and whales.
The Space
Our home has been a labour of love, extensively and sustainably remodelled, environmentally sensitive, solar powered and created from recycled materials and quirky ideas. We love everything retro, vintage and unusual. Our house is a family friendly place consisting of 2 bedrooms and a loft bedroom, 1 indoor bathroom/laundry and an outdoor bathroom for rinsing off after a day at the beach. Enjoy our spacious deck, making amazing pizza's and tasty creations in the outdoor wood fired oven. We've got well stocked bookshelves and family games. Wifi access and a retro turntable with some fun, retro vinyl. We're passionate about living a sustainable lifestyle and reducing consumerism. We try as much as possible to reuse and recycle found treasures rather than buying new items, our home reflects this ideal. Our low impact home is such a reflection of who we are and the lifestyle we enjoy. It's a constantly evolving work in progress, it's not perfectly finished, if you're looking for 5* perfection then it's probably not for you. If you want to escape and experience a more relaxed beach lifestyle for a while or take some time to reflect and explore your creativity then you'll probably love it.
Guest Access
We have a lock box access, there's 2 bedrooms on the main level and the third bedroom is accessible by a semi spiral staircase, not really suitable for small children. Our large deck has no railing and our yard is not fenced so we're not very young children friendly or pet friendly.

People Like Us Local Guide
Can offer to meet up with people in Iluka and Sydney.
We have just had such a lovely globe exchange at Deby and Al's place in Iluka. Their home is such a fun and quirky place - you can spend a few hours looking at all the cool art and collectables!
It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, a spacious lounge and dining area, comfy beds, a good shower (inside and outside.... Which was great coming back from the beach!). Outside is also beautiful, we spent many hours on the deck, in the shade of the lovely mango tree. The girls loved playing on the rope swings off the deck.
Iluka itself is a lovely small town, with a supearlet, cafes, bakery, butcher etc. We enjoyed the monthly Sunday market, as well as the farmers market in Yamba. We had delicious Japanese at Chez Basho, a lovely spot on the water! And had a good meal at the new pub too.
Everyone in Iluka is so friendly and we were made to feel very welcome for our longer stay. The girls did workshops with local artists, join a bushschool, attended swimming lesson in Yamba and a gymnastic class in Maclean.
The beaches in the area are lovely, we had lots of nice morning walks at various beaches (spotting kangaroos), enjoyed swimming and rock pooling at the Bluff and cool off dips at Moriaty's, as well as enjoyed evening walks around the marina and along the breakwall.
Communication with Deb has been easy throughout and she kindly left a box of craft for the girls to collage... Which was a greatly appreciated by us and the girls... Entertaining them whilst we were able to unpack on arrival ☺️💖
Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!
Iluka truly is a hidden gem on NSW's trendy coastline. We felt like locals at Deby and Alan's house with 2 bicycles to ride around the charming town. Great spot to explore so many wonderful places in this beautiful part of Australia. Mahalo Deby and Alan! :)
We absolutely loved having Deby and Alan to stay this winter. We have a newly finished sleepout so when they said they were trying to find a place to stay to visit their son who is working locally, it was a no brainer to offer it up. Deby and Alan are wonderful people and I’d recommend them to any PLU host, they are great communicators, we’re very respectful of our house and are lovely company. People like Deby and Alan are why we have stayed members of PLU. We can’t wait to visit their place at some point.
Deby and her family were lovely guests! We échanged for a globe but they were super friendly and said to Australia some time. They would be welcome back to my home anytime.
We had a fab stay at Lisa's, such an amazing place. Spectacular views, so comfortable and incredible things to do and see in the local area. So easy to communicate with Lisa, would love to come back again some time in the future. If you're in NZ definitely check out Lisa's home in Kaka Point, you'll love it.
We had an awesome stay with Charlie and Jase, they were so kind to offer their sleepout which was a bonus because they were home at the time and we got to hang out with them and their lovely family during our stay. Charlie and Jase went out of their way to offer this exchange and make us comfortable and we're so grateful. We were super comfortable in the sleepout and close to our son who is living in Wanaka. Charlie had fantastic information and recommendations about what to do and see in the local area. It's such a stunningly beautiful part of the world. Lake Hawea and Wanaka are fabulous places to visit, the community is so friendly, the views amazing and the food and wine beyond sensational. Super close to Cardrona and other resorts for snow fun and surrounded by stunning National Parks with endless tracks for incredible walks. Over 200 wineries are within an hours drive with cellar door tastings and just the most amazing Pinot Noir and other varieties. We loved everything about our stay and especially meeting Charlie, Jase and their family, such lovely people. Communication was so easy and we look forward to seeing them again some time soon either in Australia or NZ. We're totally addicted to NZ and can't wait to visit again.
People like you and Alan are why we love PLU so much. We loved having you to stay :-)
Katie and family were fantastic guests. Communication was super easy before and during the exchange. We returned to a perfectly clean and tidy home with some gorgeous gifts made during their stay in Iluka. Thanks for taking great care of our home and having a fun stay in Iluka, you're welcome back any time. Enjoy your incredible adventures.
Stacy and family were lovely guests, unfortunately we didn't get to meet, maybe another time!
We had a fabulous globe exchange with Jamie who was able to accept our short notice request. Jamie's home is gorgeous and perfectly located in central Paris, walking distance from so many attractions. We had such an incredible time, thanks Jamie.

Together as Recycletastic we create quirky upcycled art, jewellery and assemblage projects using random unusual found and discarded materials. We have lived in the UK and France and travelled extensively prior to having kids and as a family. We're now based in Sydney so our Iluka home is available most of the year apart from peak holiday times/Christmas/Easter when we stay there. We're also open to hosting any PLU members adult kids who may be travelling Australia. We've been exchanging for around 15 years through PLU and another platform.
