Neighbourhood

We live three kilometres from the city centre of Nyköping in a nice suburb with friendly neighbours. What we like most of all about our area is the closeness to nature. Only a couple of minutes to a forest with tracks for jogging or just for walks among the trees. A kilometre away is the sea and 4 km by bike or car is the nearest sandy beach. Further away you find other beaches both with cliffs and sand. Here are also many lakes and a big archipelago. We enjoy going for walks along the sea any time of the year. Nyköping is one of the oldest towns in Sweden and has a population of about 35 000 people. It is a lovely little town with shops and also some great restaurants. Here is also an old castle, Nyköpingshus, with a museum. You find more about Nyköping on: http://www.nykoping.se/ If you like fishing, like our oldest son, you can fish along the coast of the Baltic Sea without permission. He fishes for pike and pearch in the sea and harbour and for trout in the Nyköping river. The archipelago is absolutely fantastic. Even without a boat you can reach islands at Stendörren (the Door of Stone) about 20 km north of Nyköping. You reach the islands by foot crossing small bridges. It is a fantastic place to visit.(see picture) Boda borg is an adventure for both children and adults, 7 km east from us. There you work together as a team and solve different challenges. A perfect place to go on a rainy day. www.bodaborg.se/oxelosund In Oxelösund you can also go for a challenge in the treetops at Upzone Adventurepark. https://www.upzone.se/en/cities/oxelosund/ For those interested in history the county of Södermanland is a heaven as you will find many old palaces within an hour by car from Nyköping. Some are open to the public like Gripsholms slott in Mariefred from the 16th century. Mariefred is a nice little town. We recommend everyone to visit the pretty town of Trosa 30 km north. A very picturesque town with lovely wooden houses along a river which runs into the sea. Trosa has been loved by all our exchange families. Another great thing about living in Nyköping is that Stockholm is easily reached by train, bus or car within an hour. Stockholm is a very attractive capital built on many islands, you are never far from water. In Stockholm you must visit the medival Old town with narrow streets and also The Royal castle, the Museum of Modern Art and Vasamuseum with a ship found after 300 years in the sea and it is very well preserved due to the brackish water in the Baltic Sea. The Vasa ship is the most popular tourist attraction in Sweden together with Skansen an open air museum and animal park.. Junibacken is a museum popular among all those who has read the books by Astrid Lindgren. Gröna Lund is an amusement park on an island opposite the Old town. Very popular among our children. More information on: http://beta.stockholmtown.com http://www.sweden.se/ The newest museum is ABBA the museum. www.abbathemuseum.com/ Kolmården, 50 min soutwards from Nyköping, a big animalpark with a dolpineshow and wild animals from most continents. It is spacious and set in nice surroundings. http://www.kolmarden.com/ Staying in our area will give you oppertunities to relax but also to be busy exploring the surroundings.

Nearest airport

Stockholm/Skavsta 15 min. Stockholm/Arlanda 1h 45 min. Linköping airport with direct flights to Amsterdam, 1 h.

Getting around

We have had exchange partners who have only used public transports or bikes, but it is easier with a car. Car exchange might be possible.
