General overview

We live on the shores of Lake Macquarie, the largest coastal lake on the east coast of Australia. The location is quiet, though within walking distance to one of the villages located around the lake.

The space

2 choices of Accommodation:- the boathouse studio sleeps 4 in a double bed and bunks. The studio room has a kitchenette with everything you need for a comfortable holiday, except an oven, and a cosy lounge space looking out a picture window over the jetty and water. Bathroom is ensuite-style. Alternatively, we offer our guests the entire ground floor of our home. You have complete privacy with separate entrance, kitchen, bathroom, dining and TV rooms and 3 bedrooms. Both types of accommodation have access to the jetty as well as to several terraces of gardens, with outdoor seating, bbq facilities and outdoor laundry. All with magnificent views of the Lake.

Guest access

You have to navigate down 15 steps to the ground-floor apartment and another 10 steps down to the boathouse at the water's edge So it is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs.

Neighbourhood

We are within half an hour of a major city, Newcastle, with its surfing beaches, restaurants, art galleries, theatres and concert halls; not to mention night life. In the other direction, Lake Macquarie is only an hour and a half from the delights of Sydney. For the wine buffs, the Hunter Valley wine region has a wealth of interesting vineyards and wineries to explore. The Watagan Mountains National Park is nearby with fabulous waterfalls and rugged walking trails.

Getting to my home

Public transport from Sydney airport is best by train to Central Station. Change platforms for the Newcastle line: get off at either Awaba (all-stations slower train) or Fassifern (minimal stops, faster). Taxi from Fassifern or more likely, I can meet you.

Nearest airport

Sydney, Kingsford Smith airport is about 2 hours' drive, 3 hours by train.

Getting around

Rathmines village shops are a 5 minute walk away. IGA supermarket, Malaysian/Chinese restaurant, Secret Corner Cafe (Jules), butcher, newsagent, Indian takeaway, bakery, pharmacy, Medical Centre, Physiotherapist, and hairdresser. Wangi village shops are similar and 7 minutes drive. Toronto is 8-10 minutes drive north, a much bigger shopping centre, with 2 supermarkets (Coles & Woolworths), several restaurants, etc.

Ivan and I are both retired from Educational employment. He was a Primary School Principal and I was a School Psychologist. Our home is located on the shores of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia. We have a self-contained boathouse located right on the waterfront, facing a jetty and beach. It is well equipped with a bathroom, kitchen and 3 beds - a double bed and single bunks. Ideally it is suitable for a couple and 2 children, or 3 adults. We also have available a 3-bedroom apartment separate from our house. It also has magnificent views of Lake Macquarie from the main bedroom, kitchen and living room. Guests in both have access to terraced gardens and outdoor living areas, and to the beach and jetty.
