General overview

Villa Arcadia is a gorgeous Spanish home with a wrapping veranda overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Located in walking distance to the beach, shopping, and more chiringuitos than you'll ever need, our home is also a quiet sanctuary nestled at the edge of the largest National Park in the country. You can hike or dive in minutes from our home. Depending on the time of year, you'll have access to our fruit trees! Avocados, mangos, oranges, lemons, guavas, persimmons, and of course, pomegranates. Our home features Moorish tiling and artistic nuances throughout, giving it a feel for the region's historic splendor. We are less than an hour's drive from Malaga and Granada, fifteen minutes from Nerja and close to loads of wonderful museums. You can also be up in the mountainous region of Las Alpujarras - famous for its natural mountain springs in about a half-hour (some swear by the water's magical prowess!).

The space

We live in a three-bedroom home; two of the bedrooms are used as offices. There are two full bathrooms, both with bidets. The kitchen is small and mighty - with a microwave, Nespresso machine, electric stovetop, and oven. The large pantry leads to the back patio and is where we keep the washer and dryer (in the pantry, not on the patio!). There is a large dining room with a six-person antique table and chairs as well as a large living room and Smart TV. The living room area also has a four-person table we use for gaming. Off the living room are double doors that lead to the veranda, which wraps half of the house and overlooks the Med Sea.

Guest access

We have sixty-three (yes, 63) stairs that lead to the front door. The house is two-story; there are two spaces on the second floor. One is an office and the other is a bonus patio with the best view of the Sea. On this top-floor patio sits a gas firepit and bar (two chairs). It's really quite spectacular.

Notes

We have a gardener that comes every Saturday morning. Yes, Spain does indeed shut down between 2 and 4 in the afternoons, except for some restaurants and grocery stores (Mercadona does not close in the afternoons). Our region also shutters on Sundays for groceries, hardware stores, etc.

Neighbourhood

We live in a quiet, residential area of our little village, La Herradura (which is officially part of the city of Almunecar). Lots of wonderful hiking just outside the door; people around here walk everywhere. Our home is nestled between la playa (the beach) and el parque nacional (the national park). We are a three-minute walk to a gym and swimming pool you can enjoy for just a few euros. Just on the beach, not too far from us (about a 25-min walk) are open water diving centers where you can rent SUPs, kayaks, water bicycles, etc. Reasonably priced and with great service.

Getting to my home

The best airport is in Malaga (AGP), where you can rent a car or hire a cab to get to our home. We live just off the A7; very easy to get to.

Nearest airport

Malaga (AGP), 55 minute drive

Getting around

You can walk to restaurants, the beach, and shops. There are several grocery stores around here and we have a few panaderias (bakeries) and fruterias (fruits and veggies). The town fifteen mins from us, Nerja, has a few excellent international stores.
