General overview

In the middle of everything green, but still close to the city we live in a great villa with everything you need. We made a video presentation of our house - https://youtu.be/gq3IQ4mjOr4 - please watch it and also the video below which our 1st exchange family from France made for us when they came home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz9cImewJM4&t=11s

The space

We live in an area where all the houses are newly built around 2005-. Our neighbors are very friendly and helpful. Here is a quiet an relaxed atmosphere. Within the last couple of years many families has moved to Rødding, because of the beautiful surrondings/nature. The nature is according to Danish condictions quite hilly, there are many good bikerides and runningtracks. We also live close to the woods and if you would like to sleep in shelters there is one close to our house overlooking the lake of Rødding. The village has a medieval church, a small supermarket, soccer fields and multi-arena for free use as well as a big play ground for children at the school, everything is within walking distance. Down by the lake to the left (5 min walking) there is an aerial runway and a newly built playground for kids. Se the video of the playground and the surroundings here. If you walk to the left of the lake you will find a shelter where you are able to have a fire as well. You may sleep in the shelter. But in high season it is often spoken for, so maybe you'll have to book it. If you take the car and drive for 10 min. you are in the center of Viborg. It is a beautiful medieval town. It has a Cathedral and the area around the cathedral is a trip back in history, with its narrow streets and halftimbered houses and paving stones. Viborg dates back to the year 1000. In the city center you will find lots of shops, cafes and museums. There is a very beautiful park situated next to one of the two big lakes, (where you can buy the most exquisite ice cream, try it with "guf" uhm;-) which the town is built around. In one of the lakes you can take a swim at "Nørresø lake bath". The town also has an open air pool as well as a great indoor swimming pool with jacuzzi, slides, and wellness center. If you drive a little further for about 15 more minutes you will find the Dollerup Bakker (Dollerup Hills). It is a "must see". We often go there all year around either for bathing in the Hald Lake or just to go hiking and enjoy the beautiful scenery - it is specatular. Here there are many possibilities to either go hiking or picnicing. The nature is dramatic with springs, lakes, pathways, woods, meadows, heath land, steep hills and a ruin that dates back to the middel ages. If you are into fishing or golfing there are also plenty of possibilities for that. If you travel with children there are a lot of possibilies: - Within 10 min you can reach GAME STREET MEKKA - an indoor place for everyone who likes to do sport of alle kinds and for all ages https://game.ngo/game-denmark/ - Within 20 min. you can reach Mønsted Kalkgruber (Mønsted Limestone mines) which can be quite spooky and impressive. It also has many great exhibitions of how they used to work in the mines. - Within 20 min. you can reach The Electric Museum, where you can play with the exhibition and learn about electricity. - Within 15 min drive you can visit Hvolris Iron Age Village. It's a 'living museum" of how people lived in the iron age. - Whitin 45 min. drive you can reach "Baboon City", which is a indoor playland for children of all ages. - Within 35 min you can reach Randers Rainforest, which is a rainforest with all its natural inhabitants. - Within 1 hour's drive you will reach Århus, Denmark's second largest city. It has Tivoli Friheden, but also lots of museums, (AROS - is very impressive) live music, cafes and many small special shops as well as big shopping malls. It also has "The old town of Århus". It's an old town within the city, built up as a live museum. Very interesting! But you can also just take a stroll along the the Aarhus river, which runs through the city and has many excellent cafe as well. From the station you can reach Århus, which is the European Capital of Culture 2017. Actually the whole region, including Viborg, is an integrated part of the European Capital of Culture. Århus has been awarded one of the hottest places to visit in 2017, by Lonely Planet, New York Times, Vogue Magazine, CNN Travel, The Daily Mail, The Independent, and Momondo. A place you must NOT miss if you are travelling with children. - Within 75 min you can reach Djurs Sommerland, which also is a fantastic amusement park for people of all ages. Close to Djurs Sommerland you will find Kattegat Center, which is a Seaworld - fun and at the same time very educational. A don't miss is of course the beautiful beaches of Denmark. If you drive an hour to the west coast you will find the big white beaches with big waves. On some of the beaches you are able to drive on the them. If you are into surfing there a great beach for that, where surfers from many places visit - it's called Cold Hawaii and offer great waves. If you drive an hour to the east coast you'll find another kind of beach - more quiet and tranquil - and very much child-friendly beaches. If you are interested in visiting Copenhagen. It only takes 30 min by plane and the fares are quite cheap about 30 euro for a round tripticket. The airport is also closeby, it only takes 30 min. to go to Karup airport. This airport is also an oppertunity for you to use when travelling to us.
