Our very pleasant and cosy house is situated close to the city center of Groningen (15 minutes by bike) but still gives enough peace and rest. Our lovely garden has a nice terrace under our own pear trees. We have free parking for 2 cars in front of our home (on own ground). You can also explore the rural country side in close proximity.
Our house is close to the center of student city Groningen and its many restaurants and shops plus it contains the famous Groninger Museum. The city of Groningen has more than 200,000 inhabitants (with 25% students from its 2 well known universities) and is the largest city within the Northern Netherlands. Nevertheless you can also reach a beautiful rural environment in less than 15 minutes walking distance from our home. A visit to the Dutch Island (Waddeneiland) of Schiermonnikoog with its large sandy beaches is also a good option during the summer time. Also the German border is rather close: only 30 car minutes from our home so you can easily drive towards nice villages with Bratwurst and beer ... Finally the city of Amsterdam is within 2 hours away, by car or (very convenient!) by a direct train connection.
Also every summer: Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival Groningen, which is the somewhat curious combination of a cutting-edge international art festival and a large-scale summer fest for 135,000 visitors.
Our house is full of light. Feel the vibrant international city center nearby. A rural environment is to be found within close distance.

Dorret and Thierrys home was very comfortable and a real cosy home from home for our 2 week exchange and our first ever experience of The Netherlands. Situated in a safe residential neighbourhood north of the city of Groningen - once we got our bearings we used the bikes that they kindly left us all the time. This was very handy for the local things like the supermarket shopping and cycling to the Pancake ship and local pool and lake in Kardinge. My 2 boys age 11 and 9 really enjoyed an active holiday. Also the local parks were great for meeting other children through football. We discovered a great nature day on a local farm too. That’s what we liked best about the area it offered both country life and city life in both directions. We also took a bus and ferry to the quaint island of Schiermonnikoog where we were able to rent bicycles to get around. It was a great adventure and we miss the affection of Kees their cat 🐈 who liked to hang out with us when we were at home!
We had a wonderful stay at Dorret and Thierry’s home. It was modern, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Dorret was so friendly with her communications and welcoming. We had the pleasure of spending time with Kees the cat who the kids all loved.
Groningen is a wonderful city. It’s central area is enjoyable to explore. We loved the Forum building and there was a fun exhibition on when we were there. We had some lovely meals in the city also.
We also enjoyed exploring the university campus that our son attends.
We spent a very nice week in Dorret and Thierry’s lovely house. Groningen is a fun city with a young vibe, and it’s a great base for exploring the Friesland area. Even Amsterdam and other cities are within driving distance, so we drove down to Utrecht to meet up with some local and visiting PLU’ers there. We had to work part of the time we were in Groningen, but the house has good wifi, and Kees, the cat, kept us company. Everything around the exchange worked well, good communication including a video call so that we could get to know each other – and we were greeted on arrival by some Dutch delicacies. So, we highly recommend a swap with Dorret and Thierry.
We were grateful for a one-month exchange with Dorret and Thierry. We were welcomed to a clean house with generous gifts (I use my tote bag everyday for work, love it, thank you) located in a perfect location to get to all the places by bicycle! They even found a bicycle carrier, helmets and car seats for the children— how extraordinary! It made traveling safe and pleasant for all of us.
It was a ton of fun to explore here: what they ate, what they drank, riding bicycles, and meeting the Dutch people(they’re all so friendly and helpful)!
We’ll never forget our sunset bicycle rides to visit the windmills, the barefoot path with our children giggling all the way, adventuring to Julianastraat, visiting the Forum, the klompenmuseum was great to learn about wooden shoes, live music at the Buckshot Cafe, the fabulous eierbals at the snack hoek, Indian Summer restaurant was to-die-for Indian food, DinoWorld, Nordeson Festival, the church they recommended, and much more.
We were grateful to meet neighbors and Dorret’s wonderful family! They were generous and hospitable too and one day we’d love to host them! What a great trip!
We had great conversations before and during our trip we got lots of tips along the way. So communication was great. Dorret and Thierry were lovely guests and I’m only sorry we didn’t actually get to meet face to face, as my Mum had only the best things to say about them and spent some fun times with them while they stayed at my home! Hopefully sometime in the future we will all get to meet up somewhere!
Dorret and Thierry (and their friend) were great guests and treated our house well. They tried out our new treasure hunt, which inspired them to leave us a mini treasure hunt in our house, and the treasure was a delicious Dutch apple pie. What a nice surprise to come home to - thank you so much!
They left our house very clean with various treats. The correspondence and communication was open and prompt.
If you enjoy peace, stunning nature, and friendliness, then Bangor is the perfect place to go.
Sarah's house is beautifully situated, and everything is easily accessible from there. It's a spacious and tidy house with everything you need.
We used public transport (train & bus) for everything, which is also easy and rather cheap to do. From Bangor, you can easily reach Belfast in half an hour, where you can explore the city itself or travel on to other destinations (like Derry, or Dublin)
Her mother was a real asset, taking us out for dinner and enjoying a glass of wine with her later in the week.
For us, once again, this is what home exchange is all about: living like a local and meeting new people. That's definitely possible in and from Sarah's house.
We had good contact with Sarah before and during the exchange. She and her two boys looked after our house, and also Kees our cat very well.
with the bonus of a lovely drawing by the children on the table when we get home.❤️
Thank you Sarah.
How nice that Clare and her family could use our house to meet their studying son in Groningen. Communication went smoothly and our house is neatly left behind and a delicious Irish whiskey on the table. Kees the cat was also verry good taken care of.
Top guests.👌🏻
We've had an amazing week in the house of Annemette and Ole. Also (online) contacting each other upfront and during the swap went very smoothly. The home itself was extremely cosy, pleasant and clean. With delicious treats at our arrival. Plus an awesome homemade scavenger hunt through their city, so we could get to know and appreciate Silkeborg much more and better than is normally the case. Big inspiration: we will also make for Groningen. At arrival back we found our home very clean plus again with some very nice (handmade) gifts. So this was a heartwarming exchange and we would love to explore Silkeborg once again, then during a different season!
Our house has been left in perfect condition by Annemette and Ole, totally neat and clean. Next to that our cat Kees was very well taken care of by them; many thanks for doing so!
We traded for a month with Jessica and Lake. The house was neat and in a nice safe place with beautiful wild animals around us.
The contact was good and we got a lot of tips. Also nice was the people that Jessica linked to us and wich we met. That way you really get to know each other's culture! Good place to discover this state.
Our house was tidy upon return and left well behind. They took good care of our cat Kees which was nice.
