We recently moved from Amsterdam to this wonderful bungalow, a house with a soul, where each and every day feels like holidays. It is architecturally designed and built in 1960. We did a radical renovation of the house, like an underfloor heating system and a brand new custom-made Italian kitchen. After renovation the house interior became an eclectic combination of art, design / Dutch Originals like Gispen, Revolt chairs and found objects like the huge stainless steel dinner table (in Amsterdam you could find anything in the streets:-) Clay on all intern walls create a warm, natural atmosphere.
Our house has a very light and transparent atmosphere. It catches a lot of daylight, both in summer and winter. The spacious living room is at the back/garden site. The south faced flower garden is a lovely place to relax; the only thing you will hear are numerous birds. The - open - Italian kitchen is fully equiped with a dishwasher, oven & microwave. It also features a refrigerator and deep freezer. The house contains three bedrooms: one with a 140x200 bed and a door to the garden, one with a 80x200 bed and a door to the garden and one with a 140x200 bedsofa. In the independent studio in the side-building is the 4th room with a 180x200 bed, private bathroom, a fully equiped kitchen and its own terrace and access to the garden. We sometimes rent the studio or use it as guest-room. The bathroom has a walk-in rain shower, as well as a double washbasin and a toilet. Additionally, in the hall there's a separate toilet. You will find books on art, literature, cooking and gardening in Dutch, English and French as well as many films on dvd. Of course there is info on Bergen and surroundings and also on Amsterdam and up-to-date agenda on every possible subject available, as well as city maps. It is also possible to host 2 people in the studio when we are home. It has total privacy. Along with the house, we also offer you the use of our bikes.
The cottage or bungalow had no stairs, so is even wheel-chair accessible.
In the last 4 years we did about 20 exchanges. Because our recent moving from Amsterdam to Bergen, we prefer to be home the next months to do the finishing touch of the house and see what will grow in the garden. We think by autumn 2019 we will be into swapping again. On our property (behind the garage) there is also the lovely Studio Felicitas, which could be part of the exchange. It is an independent 2p studio with its own terrace with full privacy.
We live in the north-western part of the village of Bergen, but we are still close enough to walk to the center, and right on the edge of the dunes. Within minutes, you 'll find yourself surrounded by beautiful forest and a lovely dune-landscape. Even the beach is fairly close by; you can get there by bicycle within 20 minutes.
Our house is situated in a quiet dead-end street of the village of Bergen on walking distance of the center, 5mn on foot to the dunes and woods. Less than 20mn on bike to the sea (6km of beautiful dune landscape to cross). Even though Bergen is a village it has numerous quality shops, cozy cafes and restaurants. Since around 1900 it has been an artistic village were famous artists (painters, poets, musicians) lived and still live. It gives Bergen that very special atmosphere. We have lots of art galleries and the wonderful Museum Kranenburgh with its sculpture garden. Amsterdam is at 45km. Since we just moved from Amsterdam we have lots of info for you if you plan a visit to that city. Also the close by cities of Haarlem, Alkmaar and Hoorn are worth a visit.
