General overview

Whether you like surf beaches, ocean pools, watersports, bushland, mooching around independent shops, national parks and waterfalls, or easy access to central Sydney, this house has it all on the doorstep :-). Our house is a comfortable and very large (380 m2) 5 bed, 4 bath 2 floor detached house with a large yard, a heated pool and a spa. It is situated within walking distance of the beautiful beach in Mona Vale in Sydney’s coveted Northern Beaches. Conde Naste named this the world's 6th best beach in 2024! But don't tell anyone, we love how uncrowded it is for a Sydney beach! There are actually 14 beaches within a 15 minute drive of us, it really is a stunning area! Our house was very well built almost 30 years ago and we are (slowly) renovating it. So, whilst it’s not luxurious, everything works well and it is clean and it’s very comfortable and liveable. Plus it doesn’t need to be treated like a show home, which is always a bonus for families with pets and young children!

The space

The house is very large and is mainly open plan downstairs. We have possums and bandicoots in the garden and beautiful fruit trees (figs and olives). The ground floor has flat access, an open plan kitchen dining area, a living room, a playroom with loads of toys, a piano, a laundry, study / bedroom with double sofa bed and a bathroom. It also has a triple garage- great if you need boat or caravan storage (unfortunately we’re not lucky enough for that!). The kitchen has a new dishwasher, microwave and double oven. Plus a Thermomix and an instant pot :-) There is a large fridge freezer and a second fridge in the garage. On the first floor are 4 bedrooms- 2 are en-suites. One has a small second kitchen attached making it a studio apartment to give independence if needed. The family bathroom has a very powerful jacuzzi bath which proves very popular with children! 2 of the bedrooms are childrens rooms containing a bunk bed and a mid sleeper. The main bedroom suite is very large and includes a dressing area. There are 3 balconies on this floor. There is a stairlift if needed. The garden is accessed from the kitchen-living area via French doors. It’s pretty flat and contains a granny flat with separate access which will likely be tenanted, a heated pool and spa, a springfree trampoline and monkey bar swing set with a fireman's pole and zipline. There is a new waterslide too! We also have adult and child sized basketball hoops and a barbecue. It’s fully fenced and child and pet friendly.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the whole of the property if needed (if not, as the house is large, we will close off some rooms). There is also a possibility that we would separate the top of the house from the bottom (easily done) so we can have a dog sitter here. This is all open to discussion and subject to our exchangers needs.

Notes

We welcome all types of exchangers but our house is particularly well equipped for young children. We have bunk beds, pool toys, bikes, scooters, roller skates, body boards, surf boards, basketball hoops, an inflatable kayak, and FAR too many toys in the playroom! The house is also perfect for extended family groups as each can have their independence.

Neighbourhood

Where do I start? The best thing about the area is probably how many beaches we have nearby. Mona Vale beach (a 25 minute walk) has a great Rock swimming pool, playground, beach cafes and brand new surf club whichhas an amazing bar and restaurant with terrace overlooking the ocean. It is the World's 6th best beach according to Conde Nast 2024! Bungan beach (5 mins drive) is almost deserted most of the time, Warriewood is very charming and has a great cafe. Newport is 10 mins drive. We are 10 minute walk (over the hill) from Mona Vale Village town centre which has cafes, supermarkets, beauty salons, hairdressers.. It also has independent shops, restaurants, a great microbrewery and beachside cafes. You can also walk to Winneremmy Bay (20 mins), famous for for boating, SUPs and Kayaking plus its amazing children's playground and cafe. There is also a jungle gym/ children's play centre 5 mins walk- perfect for a rainy day. This part of the Northern Beaches is less busy than the lower part (that's why we love it!) so parking is rarely an issue. Mona Vale has a great skate park and there is a cinema 5 mins drive. Church point is 10 mins drive. It has a lovely waterfront restaurant https://pasadenasydney.com and you can take a short ferry over to Scotland Island. Palm Beach is 20 minutes drive and a must visit, Whether you want to see Home and Away being filmed, climb up to the lighthouse for beautiful views, or learn to surf at this very child friendly beach, or visit one of the famous waterside restaurants. You can also get the ferry over to the Basin, the stunning national park area only accessible by boat and our favourite place in Sydney. There you can hike, swim in clear waters, and see blue tongued lizards and wallabies, you can also hire a boat to get there. There is so much to do in this holiday area of the rich and famous. Further afield there are the water slides at Manly (25 mins drive), the Glen St theatre at Belrose (15 minutes drive) kangaroo spotting at Duffy's forest (10 minutes drive). There is a massive shopping mall (Warringah Mall) 20 mins drive and a smaller one 5 mins away. There are aquatic centres, trampoline parks, rock climbing, etc all within 20 mins. Lots of local waterfront reserves have picnic tables and barbecues- many are often deserted. There is an amazing dog park on the bay nearby where dogs can enjoy swimming and off lead walks. Narrabeen lagoon is just a few minutes drive and is gorgeous and great for swimming and. watersports. Children love running down the sand dunes! You can walk or cycle around the lake too. You can also visit the Warriewood wetlands which are close by and have buggy friendly walks. There is an amazing Indian restaurant (as a Brit I don't say this lightly, I hear it's the best one in Sydney!). Pittwater RSL, just 5 mins walk, is great with a few restaurants, regular comedy and other shows, a play centre for children so you can enjoy a meal, and regular family friendly outdoor deck parties with free faceprinting etc. We also have 2 golf courses very close by, one of which has the most amazing views and a tee off directly into the sea. There are lots more on the beaches oto. You can take amazing bush walks in the national park which is on our doorstep. Taronga Zoo is in Mosman is easily accessible from here too and the Western Plains Zoo isn't much further.

Getting to my home

You can fly to Sydney airport. From the CBD the B1 express bus runs from Wynyard station every 5-8 minutes (it's an amazing service!). It takes 45-55 mins depending on the time of day. There are also buses from other parts of the beaches. Driving to the city takes between 35 and 45 mins, depending on the time of day. The Keoride minibuses stop very close to our house and take you around the local area.

Nearest airport

Sydney airport is 40-45 mins drive. You can also get the B1 bus to Wynyard (45-50 mins) and then the airport train which takes 20 minutes.

Getting around

The town centre is a 10 minute walk away (please note there is a short but steep hill on the way!). Mona Vale beach is a 25 minute walk and a very short drive and within 15 minutes drive there are 14 beaches so you will be spoilt for choice! The B-line express bus to Sydney's CBD is a 15 minute walk (you can also get a bus to the B-line from a couple of minutes away). There are also buses to Newport, Avalon and Palm beach. We don't have trains here which most locals are quite happy about, feeling they would spoil the character of the area! Whilst you can get around without a car, we would recommend one so that you can make the most of the area.
