Neighbourhood
Bunnik is a small town near Utrecht. The city center has a shopping area with everything you need for daily shopping: supermarket, bakery, butcher, drugstore, bookstore, etc.
Around the corner is a playground/soccer field for children. Bunnik is located on the Kromme Rijn river, which flows into the famous canal belt of the city of Utrecht. A short distance from Bunnik there are options for renting canoes both upstream and downstream. Along the river, between Bunnik and Utrecht, the green areas of Rhijnauwen and Amelisweerd are located next to each other. In Rhijnauwen you can visit a fort, some remains (mainly bunkers) from the Second World War, a pancake bakery with a large garden and playground and a youth hostel with a café. Amelisweerd is a green estate/forest. The estate has a large organic vegetable garden with a shop (open on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings) and an organic café/restaurant (delicious cakes and artisan bread). a picnic.
For nature lovers, there are several interesting options nearby. South of Bunnik you can visit the National Park "Utrechtse Heuvelrug" - a large wooded area with many hiking and cycling trails and also the Henschotermeer for swimming.
National Park "De Hoge Veluwe" is a 30-minute drive to the east. The largest nature reserve in the Netherlands. The North Sea, for example Scheveningen, is a 50-minute drive or 1 hour and 30 minutes by public transport.
Utrecht
Visiting Utrecht is easy: the train station is a 3-minute walk away - at the end of our street. Trains to Utrecht leave every 30 minutes and take you to the city in 8 minutes. And although Utrecht is not as famous as Amsterdam, it is just as fun! Utrecht has beautiful canals that flow through the city center. In the 13th century, wharves were built along the canals as a second street at water level - this is unique in the world. Utrecht has a great atmosphere, good shops, many bars and restaurants, a large and some small theaters, a handful of cinemas, concert halls, discos/clubs and some interesting museums. You will also find a lot of greenery in and around the city. where you can relax in the sun, take a walk etc.
