Bunnik is a small town very close to Utrecht. The town centre has a shopping area with everything you need for every day shopping: supermarket, bakery, butcher, drugstore, bookstore, etc. Around the corner is a playground / soccer field for kids. Bunnik is located next to the "Kromme Rijn" river, which flows into the famous canals of the city Utrecht. At short distance from Bunnik, both upstream and downstream there are possibilities for renting canoes. Along the river, between Bunnik and Utrecht you will find the green areas Rhijnauwen and Amelisweerd adjacent to each other. Rhijnauwen houses a fortress you can visit, some remnants (mainly bunkers) from the second world war, a pancake bakery with large garden and playground and a youth hostel with café. Amelisweerd is a green estate / woodland. The estate houses a large biological vegetable garden with small shop (open on wednesday afternoon and saturday morning) and a biological café (great pies and artisan bread). The area is great for canoeing, walking, or a picknick.
For nature lovers there are several interesting options nearby. To the south of Bunnik you can visit the national Park "Utrechtse Heuvelrug" - a large forested area with lots of walking / biking trails and also Lake Henschotermeer for swimming.
At 30 minutes driving distance to the east, you will find National Park "De Hoge Veluwe". The largest nature reserve in The Netherlands. The North Sea, for instance Scheveningen is a 50 min. drive away or 1h30min with public transport.
Utrecht
Visiting Utrecht is easy: the trainstation is a 3 minute walk away - at the end of our street. Trains to Utrecht leave every 30 minutes and take you to the city in 8 minutes. And although Utrecht is not as well known as Amsterdam, it's at least as nice! Utrecht has beautiful canals flowing through the city center. In the 13th century, wharves were built along the canals as a second street on water level - this is unique in the world. Utrecht has a great atmosphere, good shopping, lots of bars and restaurants, a large and a few small theaters, a handful of movie theaters, concert rooms, discotheques / clubs and a number of interesting musea. Also you will find lots of green area's in and around the city. where you can relax in the sun, take a stroll etc.
