General overview

Imagine living in a small town surrounded by pristine beaches and nature but at the same time only a 45-min flight away from Jakarta, Indonesia's capital. If you love beaches, nature, wildlife, canyon, national parks, craft villages and nature-related sports like hiking, canyoning, diving, snorkeling... this is the place for you. There are some buildings, bridges from colonial/war era as well. A newly built home with minimalistic modern design and fully equipped interior in a Bali-like hidden paradise, boasting a tropical climate and wonderful nature. Suitable for families, remote workers and retirees alike.

The space

This house is newly built in 2022 for us by our Slovak friend, Marek, and his Indonesian wife, Santi, in a project called "De Residence Pangandaran". This holiday home is offered for mid-term rental, but we can block any period to facilitate our home swap. This is a large fully-equipped two-story house with 3 bedrooms. Ground floor: - a fully-equipped custom-made kitchen - a living room looking at a large terrace, - a modern bathroom with a shower and WC. First floor: - 3 bedrooms with large double beds and built-in wardrobes (1 bedroom can be adapted into an office for remote workers). - the balcony is accessible via the master bedroom. It is featured with air conditioning, hot water, optic-fiber high-speed internet. The project was designed by Erik, a reputable Czech architect, who respects the local culture and follows the local climate. All rooms are furnished with sleek interior furniture and air-conditioning. Granite floors also help reduce tropical heat. Teak wood doors are helpful for noise cancellation. These materials are quality, long-lasting, and natural.

Guest access

Wheelchair accessible. Gated community, 24/7 security guard.

Notes

My Slovak friend Marek is living in one of the houses in the same project to assure everything is run smoothly. Our aim is to provide a harmonious community in which mid-term and long-term foreign residents can connect and blend in with the locals, both enjoying each other's presence and company, instead of the usual tourists-locals dynamics. If you and your family are looking for cosy feeling, beaches, nature and sport, search no further. However, please note that when travelling to developing countries, the difference of living standards, conditions and convenience level between the capital cities and very local villages can be huge! - It is NOT in a touristic locations, there are mostly locals around, and sometimes local / Indonesian tourists mainly. There are rarely anyone speaking English (even "how are you") or anything other than local languages, and it can be inconvenient for you. Google translate can sometimes help, but sometimes it can still be difficult. - If you choose to go outside of the summer or high season, the services are even more limited. Our previous guests spent 30min going around just to find a restaurant in mid January (low season). - There is nothing for babies in the house now, but 1-2 cots can be provided as this is also run as a rental by my property manager. - You can be constantly looked at, because it is very rare for the locals to see any white tourists. People will approach and ask you to take photos with you as if you are celebrities :D I'm sure they will brag about it with their friends and family after that hahahaha. - Basic things are far from your usual standard, for example you might need to order drinking water from the property management every day (locals boil tap water by kettle when they wake up and several times during the day, then let it cool down - my parents do the same in Vietnam). - It can be boring, you can feel isolated... The nearest foreigner community is in Batukaras, about 30km away - Our previous guests helped us prepare notes / guides based on their personal experience: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18cwXn5kytktiaggZO889tuM-R969OYtg54yalg1jjlI/  On the good side, the house is of quality not too far from what you usually experience in Europe. Local people are nice and they can invite you for meals in their home, or they help drive you (if you meet someone suitable), or if you hire a personal tour guide/translator (quite cheap). People are honest, they refuse to take tips sometimes (which for them means "not my money"). Children are curious and pure, most have no phones or social media, they are running around playing together, don't run after you for money or treat or anything. As this home is a part of the mid-term rental project, there will be staffs who can guide and help you throughout your stay. - No washing machine in the house. The nearby laundromat charges just about IDR 20k or €1.2 per kg (picking up, washing, drying, ironing, delivery). - Cleaning service: IDR 250k (= €15) each time (or you can clean the house during your stay yourself). - Foldable beds, iron boards and other equipment can be arranged. Extra services can be ordered at your own costs if you need anything else, which are generally very cheap. More info: https://www.facebook.com/mabanoestatesindonesia

Neighbourhood

The De Residence Pangandaran is located in a beautiful ocean-side town of Pangandaran. The town is located on the West Java, Indonesia, approximately 350 km south-east from the capital city, Jakarta. The complex itself is strategically located only 5 minutes from the main market, bus and train terminal, a modern hospital, tourist hot-spots and the wonderful Pangandaran Beach. This town is one of the most popular and attractive tourist destinations in the West Java and one of the fastest developing towns in the country. Pangandaran is definitely an amazing place to live or holiday. 🌴😎💚 White sand beach in Pangandaran is a real paradise. Located only 10 min. by scooter from our house. How would you like to turn this piece of azure into your daily swimming spot?

Getting to my home

To get to Pangandaran from Jakarta: - direct 1-hour flight from Jakarta via Susiair. Tickets are sold 2 months in advance, it’s a small 12-seater plane. I recommend Traveloka.com to buy tickets in Southeast Asia. - Luggage allowance 5kg handbag + 10kg luggage, extra baggage is charged at IDR 30,000/kg. - usually on Mon-Wed-Fri every week, Jakarta-Pangandaran 11am and Pangandaran-Jakarta 6:30am local time - fixed price (Q4 2023: around GBP 100 one-way or GBP 200 return trip) Alternatively: - you can fly either to Yogyakarta (3h by train to our home) or Bandung (5 hours by train). - Train tickets: tiket.com (nearest train station is "Sidareja") Then a quick taxi ride (30-60min depending on the traffic)

Nearest airport

Cijulang Nusawiru Airport (Pangandaran airport) is 45-min from Jakarta by plane

Getting around

Hiking to waterfall, surfing, bodyrafting, beach volleyball, exploring beaches and much more. Watch this videos for inspiration, it has everything that you can see in and around the location. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjOZd7WMZDE&fbclid=IwAR0O72RjV-P1XnArU45d7FW6aDfLWZrTH2CPsiQ8PkZj-4DbB06nZsmx-wQ&ab_channel=MABANOESTATESINDONESIA

Tu & George

WRITE US, we won't bite. GLOBES WELCOME! We are minimalists and low-waste followers. We can't wait to welcome you to our new home in Vienna, our a seaside house (secondary) in Indonesia, and Tu's parents' eco oasis at the edge of Hanoi Vietnam. We seek joy from helping others, being productive, good food, roller-coasters, biking, diving, exchanging cultures, and absorbing knowledge. George is a typical full-remote IT guy 💻. An introverted "country boy" from a tiny village. The first one with a degree in his family. Having lived in Prague, Edinburgh and Palma de Mallorca, he is passionate about biking and water sports. He has SCUBA dived 50+ times! George has a kind heart, his veins are full of scars from blood donations, 15+ years! Whenever there’s a problem in our building, he is always the first one jumping in to solve. He is (a bit too) proud of his 1500+ streak on Duolingo. He dreamed of relocating to a bike-friendly coastal city in Europe, and together with me we ended up choosing a riverside flat in Vienna. Tu is a real estate valuer in an international firm, also full remote. Having lived in Hanoi, Prague, Colorado, Strasbourg, she thinks global and acts local. After her quarter-life crisis in 2019, she finally found the core values that she happily lives by: Compassion❤️, Integrity ⚖️, and Making a difference🎗️. She started donating blood from the same age as George did. Since 2017, striving for an eco-friendlier world is her focus, at home, at work, and everywhere she goes. We will treat your home like ours if not better. Looking forward to your exchange inquiry! Sending hugs, Tu & George
